State Athletics I would like to wish Georgina Stanley, Bessie Nicholson, Sarah Darker, Matilda Cooper, Byron Rosier and Bailey Fehon all the very best as they head to Sydney Olympic Park on Wednesday and Thursday this week to compete at State Athletics. The girls will be competing in the Junior Girls relay, Byron in the 8 years 100m and Bailey in the 10 years 100m and Junior 200m. I look forward to hearing all about it on Friday! Are you leaving? With the end of another year fast approaching, I would like to touch base with all families to request that you update us ASAP if you have a child leaving our school at the end of 2019. If you know that your child will be leaving our school at the end of the term, and they are not currently in Year 6, please contact the front office as soon as possible. I appreciate your assistance in helping us finalise our student numbers and staffing for 2020. Crossing safely at our school crossing Denise has asked me to remind all families that once she has started to move off the crossing, back to the footpath, that you need to wait behind the white line, until she starts the next group to cross. Lately some parents have been starting to cross as she turns her back to move off the crossing and this is dangerous. You can only cross when Denise is in the middle of the crossing with her hand up and sign out. Grandparents' Day This Friday 8th November CVPS will be celebrating Grandparents' Day with open classrooms at 10.45am. Afterwards, grandparents and special people are invited to share recess time with your grandchildren in the playground from 11.15am. There will be morning tea provided (gold coin donation). Following recess there will be a special concert in the school hall, beginning at 12 noon. During recess, there will be a book sale in the library where guests have the opportunity to purchase a book to donate to our school library. These special purchases will contain a donation nameplate, recognising your valuable donation to our school for years to come. All book purchases are $15. We look forward to seeing you there. Year 2 Swimming In Weeks 5 and 6, Year 2 will be heading to Mudgee Pool each morning as part of the School Swimming and Water Safety Program. The cost for this program is $25 to cover the bus for the fortnight. As the weather warms up, swimming and water safety are vitally important skills for our children to learn. All Year 2 children will need their swimmers, towel, hat and sunscreen each day from the 11th-22nd November. It's going to be a great time learning at the pool! Storage of scooters and bikes Its lovely to see so many of our students riding to school. I would just like to remind these students that our bike racks are positioned at the eastern end of our Admin block against the fence. Can I please ask that all scooters and bikes are placed here, on the rack, when the children arrive at school. Recently, students have been leaning their scooters up behind the Admin block along the footpath. Shoosh for Kids Awareness Week 11-17 November The Shoosh for Kids campaign, run by the NSW Office of Sport, aims to remind spectators that the focus of junior sport should be on the enjoyment of participating. Shoosh for Kids is a collaborative effort between the Office of Sport and State Sporting Organisations to promote positive behaviour to their members, clubs and associations. The general rule is, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. Attached to this weeks e-newsletter is some information about this initiative. Michelle Neaverson-Smith Principal Remember Trash Free Tuesday is on every Tuesday at CVPS. We encourage students to bring a waste free lunch box to reduce the amount of waste in our school.

Garden Club Gardening and outdoor learning in 2020? The Cudgee gardening community are currently discussing how Garden Club will work in 2020. We would like to see our school gardens and outdoor spaces used more as a resource for classes, and as places of beauty, relaxation and fun for students and teachers to enjoy! If you have any suggestions or ideas for how Garden Club could work next year, please get in touch! Perhaps you’ve wanted to come to a lunchtime session but couldn’t for some reason, such as timing etc. please let us know the reasons as this will help shape what 'gardening at school' will look like next year. M3 Maths Challenge Last Tuesday, four CVPS students, Michael Luke, James Nicholson, Macy Goodlet and Douglas Leadbitter, participated in the M Cubed Maths Challenge held at St Matthews Catholic School. The students had to work as a team to complete a variety of challenging Maths problems and activities within a given time limit. Congratulations to our students who performed extremely well and gained a third place. They received medals, a trophy and $250 for our school. Well done! It was an absolute pleasure to accompany these talented mathematicians! Mrs O'Connell

Netball Gala Day Last Thursday, Mrs Daniell and I accompanied 43 students to the annual St Matthews Netball Gala Day. CVPS entered 3 Junior teams and 3 Senior Teams in the competition which involved playing around 10 games of netball throughout the day versing teams from schools around our region. The girls had a fantastic day demonstrating impressive netball skills, enthusiasm, resilience, team spirit and good sportsmanship. A very special thank you goes out to our wonderful student umpires, parent helpers and team coaches Leigh Goodlet, Sue Azar, Lauren Honeysett, Erin Constable and Salena Devenish. Mrs Hana Hayes.
