Smarter Balanced State Assessments Begin April 14th
This spring, all San Juan schools will administer the Smarter Balanced Assessments that replace STAR. As you can see from the chart below, students will be working with this test for 7 hours. They will take all portions of the test on Chrome books. Our students will work on the State practice tests in their History classes March 23rd though the 25th. Please talk with your students about the importance of these tests. We will also talk about stamina and brainstorm what to do if kids feel bogged down during the tests. Our staff and students have been focused on the Common Core standards for more than two years. We believe our students are prepared for the rigor of these tests. You and your students can access practice tests at the link below. http://sbac.portal.airast.org/ca/practice-test-ca/ The formal testing will begin with the 8th grade-only paper and pencil STAR sci-ence test April 7th—9th. The English and Math tests will follow by grade level: 6th grade: April 14—17 and May 4th—11th 7th grade: April 21st—24th and May 12th—15th 8th grade: April 28—April30th and May 18th—22nd. There will be no special bell schedule. Math and English tests will be taken in math and English classes.

Student Government Raises Funds to Help Fight Cancer
Pasteur’s Pennies for Patients
drive collected over $1200.
The money enables the discov-
ery and delivery of therapies
that improve the quality of
life for patients. In fact, of
the 67 new cancer drugs approved by the US
Food and Drug Administration since 2000, al-
most half were approved as significant treat-
ments for patients with blood cancers—and
many are now being
tested for use in
other cancers and
diseases. Thanks to
everyone who sup-
ported this im-
portant work.

Your Input Needed for District's LCAP Each year, we review the district’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) which tells
the story of our goals, actions and services; resources which will help us achieve those
goals; and indicators of progress along the way. Click here for a brochure that provides
more information about our current LCAP. As we approach our first revision of the plan
we need YOUR INPUT.
Visit www.sanjuan.edu/lcap to provide feedback. Once on the website you can choose your language
and share your thoughts.
Reflect on major barriers you see to the success of low income students, English learners, fos-
ter youth, and other high risk students.
Think about ideas that you have to overcome those barriers based on your own thinking, things
you have read, talking to others, etc.
What do you see as the most important things which can be done in San Juan to improve edu-
cational outcomes for students?
Kyle L. and Hunter H. enjoy lunch
at In and Out Burger with 16 other
students.
Melissa H. enjoys playing video
games with other winners in
the game truck.
Twenty five students face off to
see which of the top three stu-
dents win prizes in Ro Sham Bo.
