CRUZEIRO was our big breakthrough after 20 years in the business. Butthat was 1994 and since then XTORT sold more milk & cheese for us

CRUZIERO was a race horse. Long and lean. And she would come gallopingaround the side of the barn when someone fed grain. Her metabolism was so highthat she would lie down on her side in a puddle to cool off in the summer. Wemeasure a lot of things at shows. Three things we don’t measure are heart rate,respiration, and timpany. Possibly THEY are BETTER indications of greater milkthan the things that the judges DO measure.

XTORT was a plodder. Small and compact. In her last lactation at an advancedage, she would still take the first spot on the ramp at the entrance to the parlor.

XTORT never talked. She just kept eating.

When it became obvious that she was dying, Scott walked her out of the milkingherd, back towards a dry doe pen. She plodded along and half way there she gaveup and flopped down, sitting up.

Scott figured that was the end.

A minute later she got up and completed the journey.

Three days later she died at the age of eleven.

ADGA used to publish something called the AR. Around 44 pages of fineprint showing every single Saanen DHI record for that year. One year the ARonly contained one Saanen in the U. S. with an eleven year old lactation.

CUMIN, dau of XTORT, is the second generation foundation doe thatDAIRY people want descendents from and she is located halfway back in thislist.

She beat our whole herd in 305 at least twice.Lined on CRUZEIRO, but only 3/16ths.We had a disastrous test on Oct. 20, 2009, but XTORT held her milk. Maybe she likes to eat soggy roundbales out in the rain. Her sister lives in Canada now.Sold all her buck kids to dairies that do not register. A long history behind this doe. We got anemployment application from a person working in the Likuni Boys School in Africa. He became our herdmanager and later started his own unregistered herd with our stock. When one of his does, PEPPER, went5,000 on DHI, we got her dau. That was VANILLA, who completely lost one rear foot but kept ontrucking with a wide mammary..XTORT was for people who love goats who love people. She was the only kid to break out of the kidprison to follow you around while you do chores.

The brotherhood of Saanen Breeders runs through XTORT’s bloodlines.

Frances Szasz, a brave little Quaker lady, bred SHARMIN, who led the Saanen breed for threeconsecutive years in milk. All by herself Frances rented a van and drove to Missouri whereDRAMBUIE of the famous Yarrow Hill herd was located and brought him back to the HudsonRiver Valley upstate New York City.

And the son of DRAMBUIE and SHARMIN was LEGEND WEST ATLAS.

Naturally, Scott went after the son of the 3-times #1 doe. In the first year he trucked two of hisheaviest milkers up there to be bred. That didn’t work.

In the second year, he leased ATLAS.

The third year, Frances allowed Caprikorn to buy ATLAS.

ATLAS begat CRUZEIRO who, in her turn, was #1 in the Saanen heard with 5,110 pounds. Atthat time there had only been one or two other 5,000 lb lactations in 305 days in the Saanenbreed.

Cruzeiro begat GCH++ÚB CAPRIKORN JUDGE’S KRUGERRAND, who begat 92 registeredSaanens, plus lots of unregistereds, notably in the BETHEL herd.
