Beef Catalogue Forward by our Chairman Mr. Tom CorcoranWelcome to our 2009 Beef Catalogue on behalf of NCBC “Ireland Genetics” and our shareholders Munster AI and Progressive Genetics.Again this year for the convenience of our customers we present the catalogue in the pocket sized A5 format. Whether your enterprise is pedigree breeding or commercial crossing, for weanling or carcase beef production, or breeding herd replacements, this catalogue has the top sires for your needs. A guide for users is on page 57.The 2009 catalogue presents a separate Eurostar rating on milk potential of beef sires for the first time. Also each sire’s percentile rating for each trait is included. This is denoted by the % Ranking in the columns in the extreme left and right of the Eurostar table. As you will see many of the sires in this catalogue are in the top 1%.2008 saw the 1st year of operation of the “Suckler Welfare Scheme” and this is delivering the expected dramatic boost to Irish beef breeding. I urge Minister Brendan Smyth not to cut the €80/hd Welfare Scheme payment as in a very short period of time this small investment will deliver large benefits to the beef sector.Our 2009 catalogue shows a panel of promising young test sires. To ensure that NCBC can supply a continuity of ever improving beef sires with reliable Irish data in AI it is vital that you the herdowners use some young test sires. Please contact NCBC or your AI provider to discuss incentives for progeny testing.
