Beef Poster & Dairy Billboard Contest Contest entries are due to the 4-H office by April 7, 2016 Division I -Grades 4-6 -Division II- Grades 7-8 -Division III -Grades 9-12
Awards: Parish: Ribbons will be given to all contestants. First place winners will receive a rosette ribbon. Cash awards will be given to state winners. Rules for Beef Poster Contest
Make a poster telling the story of beef and/or beef products. Poster must be on 11” x14” white poster board. Note: This is a
quarter sheet poster board. Place your name, address, age, grade in school and parish on the upper right corner of the back of
the poster. *Poster should generate positive images of beef and beef products and not portray negative images of other food
products. Get ideas from magazines, parents, friends, nutrition bulletins, meat publications. Resources are also available from
local grocery store meat departments. The American Meat Institute or National Livestock and Meat Board. Do not use copy-
righted material. Pictures, clip-art and materials (i.e. cartoon characters, advertisements, logos, etc.) that are copyrighted may
not be used on the posters and will be disqualified. Computer generated clip-art may be used on the poster if it is
not copyrighted material.
Rules for Dairy Poster Contest
Draw a billboard that encourages or promotes the consumption of milk and milk products and their importance for health.
* Billboard design must be on 22” x 28” poster board only. * Do not attach anything to the poster that is more than ½ inch
thick.* Print name, address, grade, school, and parish on back of poster in the upper right corner. *Do not use commercial
brand names of products on the poster. Do not use jingles, slogans, signs or pictures that are trademark or copyright protect-
ed on the poster.

4-H Scholarships available.

LaSalle 4-H Office by
2/25/2016.
LaSalle 4-H Jr. Leaders will meet on February 23rd at 6
p.m. in the Extension Mtg. Room (23) LaSalle Parish Court-
house. This exciting club is open to all 4-H members in the
7th-12th grade who have the desire to serve the communi-
ty, mentor younger 4-H’ers and gain new leadership skills.

4-H Photography Contest 4-H Members may take a picture focused on the
monthly theme and print out a 4x6 inch photo.
Tape the entry form to the back of your
picture. Turn your photo in to your school 4-H
leader or the 4-H Office by your
club meeting day.
SUBMIT ONLY 1 PHOTO EACH MONTH
Club points are given for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place
winners in each division. Divisions: I-4th-5th
grade , II-6th-8th grade, III-9th-12th grade

Making Healthy Choices
10 tips to a great plate!
1. Balance calories.
2. Enjoy your food, but eat less.
3. Avoid oversized portions.
4. Eat more veggies, fruits, whole grains,
and fat-free or 1% milk and dairy products.
5. Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
6. Switch to fat-free or low-fat (1%milk).
7. Make half your grains whole grains.
8. Cut back on foods high in solid fats, added sugars and salt.
9. Compare sodium in foods
10. Drink water or unsweetened beverages instead of sugary
drinks.

4-H University
4-H U gives teens the opportunity to meet 4-H’ers from throughout
the state and compete for trips and prizes through a variety of pro-
ject-area contests. 4-H members who were 13 years old before
January 1 are eligible to attend 4-H University to be held on the
campus of LSU in Baton Rouge June 21-24
Cost to attend $150
Sign up early so you can start practicing for
the contest of your interest!

4-H Summer Camp
July 11-15 at Camp Grant Walker
This camp is open to youth in 4th-6th grades Cost $175
A non-refundable deposit of $75
is due by April 18, 2016.
The remaining balance will be due in June.
Any 4-H’er on free or reduced meals, may apply for a $60 credit to
be deducted from cost of camp.

4-H LOST Camp
August 3-7 at Camp Grant Walker Cost $165
A non-refundable deposit of $75 is due by 5/1/16.
The remaining balance will be due in June.
Louisiana Outdoor a Science and Technology Camp is for 7th
grade 4-H members and 8th graders that have never attended.
Call 992-2205 for more information on these camps offered.
Shooting Sports Update
Northern Regional Shooting Sports Match will be held March
9-12. State Shooting Sports Match will be held on April 20-23.
Registration for Regional Match is due by 2/8/16.
4-H Members interested in participating at Regional Competition must
have Hunters Education Certification.
The LaSalle Shooting Sports t-shirts will be ready before members
participate at Regional Match.
Sizes will be pulled from parish registration. Any family member that
would like to order a shirt needs to contact the 4-H office at 992-2205.
Shirt orders are due by 2/10/16.
A postcard order form will also be mailed out soon.

Cost $75 (1 camper/1 adult)
$40 for additional family member
This weekend camp experience is
designed for family teams of youth
and a caring adult to develop
knowledge and skills in the area of
food & nutrition, diet and fitness.
Open to any 4-H’er in grades
4-6. Adult family members attend-
ing will need to complete a 4-H
Overnight Chaperone Program.

Electric Workshop Tuesday, March 29, 2016
How much do we rely on electric power? Probably more than most of us think!
At this workshop, 4-H’ers will need to bring an empty 20 ounce soft drink bottle to construct a lamp.
The workshop will be in the Extension Mtg. Room and the cost is $10 per 4-H’er. You may bring extra
money for snack machine. Registration is due to the 4-H office before March 8 to reserve your spot; limited to 20
participants. We turn on the lights beginning at 9:00 am and turn them off at Noon!
