Become an Esthetician Who Graduates with Experience
and Confidence
Service Canada reports that: “In recent year, the number of people employed in the
estheticians, electrologists and eelated occupations group has increased significantly, mainly
due to the demand for personal care services and the importance people place in physical
appearance. Since these trends are expected to hold, employment in this occupational
group should continue to experience significant growth over the next few years.” Providing
safe and effective client-centered care of specialized body and skin treatments is at the
centre of this industry, as estheticians offer: exfoliation treatments, eyebrow tinting, facials,
hand and/or foot massages, manicures, pedicures, skin care, skin peels, waxing, laser hair
removal and more. These professionals may also be responsible for performing cashier
duties, providing product demonstrations, scheduling appointments and selling skincare
products.
Despite the wide range of responsibilities that come along with this profession, it only takes
one esthetics college program in Ontario to get the training that one needs to be successful.
Centennial College’s Esthetician offering includes the full range of topics needed to not only
perform the above duties but also to run one’s own
business.
Taking two years to complete, the offering delves into
human physiology, pathology and histology while also
covering skin care theory, skin car practices, manicures and
pedicures, spa health and safety, product chemistry and
advanced ingredients, introduction to business practices,
makeup, the spa business, and much more. Enhancing each
of the topics covered are labs at Centennial College’s
Morningside Campus. These labs feature the range of tools
that students will encounter in the field. As such, students
learn the proper use of specialized equipment and products,
as well as how to apply knowledge of business operations, exceptional customer service and
diverse population needs to daily operations of an esthetic business in a controlled salon or spa environment.
In addition to the courses they attend, students gain valuable hands-on practical experience
in the school’s student clinic (which is supervised by qualified faculty) and the field placements at the most well known and respected spas in the city of Toronto.
As a result of the offering, students graduate with knowledge to:
Perform the complete range of body and skin care treatments following
correct procedures and precautions, while fulfilling client needs.
Use a range of specialized equipment and products with guidelines
established national, provincial, industry and other related standards,
regulations, policies and procedures.
Where applicable, employ relevant knowledge of anatomy, physiology and
histology.
Follow current legislation and national, provincial, municipal and industry
standards and regulations to adhere to health, safety, sanitation and
infection prevention control guidelines.
Establish and operate a small esthetic business in a salon or spa environment.
Take into account health status and needs of clients, select and recommend the use
of esthetic products and product ingredients.
Develop customer service strategies in accordance with professional standards and ethics.
