Eligibility If you are a current undergraduate student in at least your second year of study at ECU (excluding WAAPA) you are eligible to apply to become a peer mentor. Online mentoring may be available for some schools, so external students interested in becoming a mentor are encouraged to enquire. What a mentor does As a mentor, you will provide peer support and guidance to a small group of first-year students over the course of one semester. Your role is to help these students adapt to life at ECU and support them in their transition to a university learning environment. With your knowledge of studying at ECU, you will show your mentees the ropes of the ECU systems and processes, inform them about available support services, and share your experiences with them. Your support will take the form of four in-person meetings with your mentees, where you will be able to have a chat and a coffee. You will also check in with your mentees each week of the semester via email. Full training is provided to all peer mentors. Career benefits of mentoring Becoming a peer mentor enables you to: meet new people (mentees, your fellow mentors, and others at networking events); help others and engage with the ECU community; increase your self-confidence; boost your employability; develop your professional skill set; and receive an official certificate for your CV. How to get involved It’s easy to request a peer mentor. Just complete a Peer Mentor Registration Form, available from ecu.edu.au/careers, and return it to [email protected].
