BECOME A CITIZEN OF THE WORLD WITHOUT LEAVINGYOUR CAMPUS

Every year, Deakin welcomes thousands of international students, who are exposed to a different culture, language and a new environment. They need support settling in and absorbing the Australian culture, while they offer a different perspective on life as a student to the locals.

Join the International Peer Program to explore another culture without leaving your hometown.

About the Program

You will be matched up with an international student, who has similar academic interests to yours and is here on a full-time basis (no exchange students). You will have the opportunity to meet once a fortnight for an entire trimester to exchange study tips and ideas, while being exposed to a different culture.

The program aims at:

• helping international students settle in and transition to life at Deakin, while increasing their confidence when dealing with locals

• expanding the views of local students, who will have the opportunity to enjoy an international experience without leaving the campus

• improving the academic performance of all students involved, thanks to their study collaboration.

Local students

If you have always wanted to learn another language or discover a different culture but you are unable to go overseas for a long period of time, this is your opportunity! Peers will share stories of their home country, their family, friends and might even cook delicious traditional food for you.

International students

Your transition to Deakin will be smooth and enjoyable thanks to local students, who will welcome and assist you every step of the way. You will make life-time friends while settling in an discovering the unique Australian lifestyle.

GCP Program

Students will earn 20 points towards their GCP Program for a full trimester participation in the International Peer Program.
