Our Year 13 Celebration Event was held at Reids in Billericay in September and was a huge success and a fantastic opportunity to see our Sixth Form leavers one last time and wish them well as they head off on their new adventures at University and the world of work. Our Year 11 Presentation Evening is due to take place on the 6 December and we are all looking forward to celebrating the GCSE successes too. We held the opening of our state of the art 3G pitch last week. We were excited to officially open the new facility which was unveiled by Mark Francois our local MP. We were delighted to welcome back Mr Hodges for the event, who retired as Headteacher in 2017. We also held our Sports Presentation Evening last week, which was a fantastic celebration of all the great things our students have achieved throughout the year, in individual and team sports. We have also had nine students attend the Jack Petchey Awards Evening in Basildon to be presented with their medals, so as you can see we have had a great deal to be proud of this half term. This was the latest initiative run by the society to promote the legacy for those who sacrificed their lives. The match itself was a close affair with Woodlands winning 3-2. It was a much improved performance from the Beauchamps team, and we had the chances throughout the game to level the score up. Both Beauchamps goals were scored by Harrison D. Welcome To Our New Year 7 Students - Class Of 2019!

Year 7 students have adjusted well since leaving their Primary Schools and have settled in to the Beauchamps way of life as if they have always been here. They have made amazing first impressions which members of staff are remarking on; staff are very happy with the way students conduct themselves not only in the classroom

but around the school as well. A great many of the students are taking part in the variety of activities that the school offers and extra-curricular clubs are bursting at the seams. The Year 7 students are a credit to you all, being courteous and polite to staff and their peers. I am looking forward to my time as their Head of Year

and watching them grow not only in stature but in becoming confident able young people.Mr P Mower, Head of Year 7

3G Pitch Grand Opening

On Friday 28 September Beauchamps High School 3G Pitch was officially unveiled by Mark Francois, MP for Wickford and Rayleigh. The new facility was made possible thanks to investment from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, which is delivered by the Football Foundation. This is an excellent sporting facility which will benefit both our local community and students. The facility will allow a wide range of sporting activities to be delivered and support students in their personal development. The pitch has also helped us to open the Beauchamps Football Academy for Sixth form students, directed by Danny Greaves, a former player and coach at Southend United FC and the son

of Spurs and England legend Jimmy Greaves. The benefits of the project are also being felt by two of our school’s grassroots partner clubs, Wickford Town Youth FC and Essex Royals FC. As the pitch has been installed with floodlights, both teams have increased access to train and play matches, thanks to it being usable during the evening. With the two partner clubs boasting 62 teams between them, the site will become a hub for increased social cohesion and rising participation rates in physical activity. At the entrance to the pitch, we have mounted the Peace Field Declaration – a plaque presented by the Managing Director of the National Children’s Alliance working in conjunction with the Peace Field Project. The plaque c o m m e m o r a t e s the First World War and is a symbol of peace and of the importance of fair play, and a reminder of how sport can transcend conflict and promote friendship.

Mr M Harper, Head teacher, said, “We would like to thank Mark Francois MP whole-heartedly for opening the facility for us and for being part of such a momentous occasion. We would also like to extend our thanks to the Premier League and the FA Facilities Fund for the grant, without whose support the completion of this project would not have been possible. “The opening of the 3G AGP pitch is an exciting and unique opportunity for both Beauchamps High School and the local community in general and we are thrilled to be at the heart of it. Grassroots sport plays such a pivotal role in local communities, creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds and we look forward to our role at the heart of this.”

The Beauchamps Sixth Form Year 13 students of 2017-2018 celebrated their successes at A level and BTEC at Reid’s in Billericay on Thursday 6 September. It was a great success, with students enjoying a delicious dinner before the awards were presented by Mr Harper and staff. Students are about to embark on various new endeavours – some are taking a gap year, some are beginning an apprenticeship and many are off to university in the next couple of weeks. It was lovely to see them after the summer holidays and to wish them well as they take their next steps!Report by Miss Brabant

sProgressing from Year 7-11 at Beauchamps High School helped shape me into an individual full of aspiration and determination. I had clear goals but knew I’d need to be surrounded by dedicated, passionate and caring teaching staff who truly knew me, in order to succeed. Beauchamps Sixth Form ticked all the boxes. I did have some doubt and the massive colleges with exceptional buildings did draw my attention, but those are only four walls; what really counts are the people inside those four walls. I’m confident that undoubtedly there isn’t another local sixth form/college with the level of attention and nurture you receive at here. You will honestly need all the support you can get, considering the difficulty of A-levels and BTEC equivalents. Beauchamps have this support in abundance! Take advantage of looking at what they have to offer at every opportunity you get, to see if it’s for you, especially open evenings and also our new subject talks we will have on offer this year.I’ve really enjoyed the more mature level of study. The free periods are great as you can catch up on work and

get additional things completed. I have found you are treated as a young adult by the teachers which is nice and helps you grow

Like every student finishing Year 11, I faced the dilemma of what to do next in my academic career. I had been very happy at Beauchamps but was keen to explore all options to decide what was best for me. After going away and researching other colleges and apprenticeships I decided that Beauchamps High school Sixth Form was the best option. I knew the school and the teachers and I knew I would get settled in quickly. I wouldn’t have to worry about finding my way around and impressing new teachers. The Sixth Form has a great support system and all of the teachers try amazingly hard to help us in any way. Sixth Form has not been an easy experience

and is harder than I thought it would be. The teaching style is different so be prepared for a dramatic shift but if you apply your mind to the independent learning everything quickly falls into place. Being a smaller year group, everyone knows each other and everyone faces the same struggles so there’s no worry in feeling like an outsider. Even if you get really stressed under a large workload, there is definitely somebody who has experienced the same feeling and can help you out. There’s always a solution to any problem that you have. Overall, I have enjoyed being at Beauchamps Sixth Form because it’s a comfortable transition into the next step in life whether that’s in a job or at uni. It’s beneficial for creating a sense of independence that can be

applied throughout the rest of your life. Beauchamps really installs that in you from day one, because if you don’t work hard for your grades you’re not going to get them. It’s not a walk in the park but it’s worth it. Grace L, Head Girl - Studying A Level French, Media, Geography

into a more confident person. There is a real drive in the Sixth Form on well-being which has been really beneficial to me; this includes our enrichment on Wednesday afternoons where you aren’t allowed to study but instead participate in something to help with your physical and emotional well-being. I was lucky enough to be selected to be the Sixth Form Head Boy... student voice is an integral part of our Sixth Form. We are listened to and our wishes are generally granted, as long as they are reasonable. The Sixth Form Christmas revue is always a comical experience to be a part of and I would encourage new students to get involved. You are given a teacher mentor who becomes a person you can trust, this allows you to offload and receive advice from them which is tailored to your own wants and needs. The senior leadership team are extremely approachable and never too busy to answer any queries. With regards to the subjects I take; Law is so interesting, and the lessons are so well presented, my progress is constantly monitored in this subject; Mrs Mower never allows for any of us to struggle and strives to provide us with every opportunity to achieve. The subject is so vast but for me I love learning about the criminal side of law. You also have the opportunity

to debate controversial topics and join the school’s debate club. I would really recommend this course. History has been very diverse; you learn about areas of history which you don’t get the opportunity to lower down the school. The History department are so passionate about what they teach, and this is infectious. The coursework gives you the opportunity to look into a particular area of history that attracts your interest: I chose to study Mao’s China. Drama is a breath of fresh air from the intense academic levels of my other subject and I love the level of topics we explore. We have the opportunity to view lots of live theatre and both the drama teachers are invested in every one of their students. I’ve gained lots of confidence and transferable skills from this subject.Alfie A, H e a d Boy - Studying A Level D r a m a , L a w , History

Why Choose Beauchamps Sixth Form?

I first found the decision of choosing whether or not to go to Sixth Form extremely difficult as my friends made the choice to go to college, but I was concerned college was not going to be the best career route for me. I am grateful for having my opportunity at Beauchamps Sixth Form because it leaves me with a little more free time, allowing me to have a part time job. The thing that attracted me to the Sixth Form here was that I was already familiar with the surroundings, which meant I didn’t have to take time to adapt to a new area; it also I meant I didn’t have to adapt to new staff and new ways of teaching. I really liked the support from the teachers I had in lower school and I was worried that it wouldn’t be the same if I went to college. I still hadn’t decided until I collected my GCSEs in August; when I saw that I had got the grades to get into

I chose to study at Beauchamps Sixth Form because I knew that I was guaranteed excellent teaching and support whilst studying for A Levels. Already knowing the school well makes the transition from GCSE to A Level much easier – you don’t have to worry about finding your classes for example! I enjoy the small class sizes because it provides you with the opportunity to discuss topics one-on-one with your teacher, which means you are less likely to leave class unsure about something. A huge benefit that comes with Sixth Form is the mentor system, you are assigned a member of staff who helps you with many aspects of Sixth Form life, from your UCAS application to any minor concerns you may have. This means you always have somewhere

the Sixth Form I started to believe in myself and thought that maybe this was the right route to take. Since studying Business BTEC here I have found the teachers very supportive; this helped me at the beginning of Year 12 when I wasn’t sure if it was the right choice for me. If it wasn’t for the teachers, I may not have stayed at Beauchamps for the two years. I’m glad that I stayed here as I’ve since grown and started to believe in myself and I am now considering university which is something I never thought I would be able to do. As most of my friends went to college I was worried I may not make new friends, however I made new friends who have supported me throughout my course. I was worried about my GCSE grades as exams are not my strongest point; this initially put me off the Sixth Form as I thought it would

to go for help, whether it be your mentor, a subject teacher or a fellow student. Additionally, there are many extracurricular activities available to you as a way to enhance your skills outside of A Levels, such as the EPQ or Duke of Edinburgh Award, which are great to discuss on your personal statement or CV! I chose to study English, Psychology and History at A Level, all of which are well taught, interesting and intensive. My particular favourite is English because of the texts you study. Few other Sixth Forms study these exciting and intriguing texts, which is what makes English A Level at Sixth form so unique.Choosing to study at Beauchamps Sixth Form means that you are

be all exams. However, choosing a BTEC course meant that most of it is coursework - far better for me as learning lots of content and putting it into one exam at the end of the year was not something I was very good at. Overall, I’ve enjoyed the Business course as it isn’t all theory; the course offers lots of real life skills and practical skills that will help me in the future. Daisy L - Studying BTEC Business

promised support, superb resources and teaching, great opportunities, and most importantly, an enjoyable time whist studying. Francesca M - Studying A Level English Language and Literature, History, Psychology

Beauchamps Sixth Form was top of my list when deciding on my future post GCSE’s due to the great reputation the sixth form has for producing fantastic A-Level results. Having been a pupil of Beauchamps since Year 7, it has allowed myself to develop a good relationship with teachers within the school: this has only grown in strength since entering the Sixth Form last

year. The Sixth Form, being relatively small compared to other colleges and sixth forms in the area, results in a more individual approach of learning with the smaller class sizes creating a more personal atmosphere.A-levels can be demanding (from personal experience studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths) but, the endless amount of support and

resources available make the A-level experience more enjoyable and manageable. Although the academic side of A-levels is very important, the sixth form provides a variety of different non-academic outlets to get involved with including: sports and charity events. A highlight of my Sixth Form experience, one of many, was completing my silver Duke

Why Choose Beauchamps Sixth Form?

On the 25 and 28 September Steve Parker from Essex Police and Fire Services once again visited the school to deliver a very informative presentation on Healthy Relationships. Every student in year 9 saw the presentation which covered topics such as consent, domestic abuse, healthy/unhealthy relationships. Students were given advice and information on how to spot the signs of an unhealthy relationship and given advice of what to do if they were ever in such a relationship. They were shown

the "Cycle of Abuse" and told that on average a victim will experience 26 occasions of abuse before seeking support or reporting the abuse. Students learned that not all abuse is of a physical nature and that emotional abuse in relationships is also a major issue in this county. Report by Mr Windeatt

of Edinburgh Award. The overall experience was very memorable and rewarding, despite having to camp and walk in heavy rain! In addition, I was very fortunate to be chosen by the school to participate in a programme which enabled me to study in Cambridge for five days. This was a very unique experience and this programme, along with the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, is one that many sixth forms are not able to offer to their students.

Being a member of Beauchamps Sixth Form has not only enhanced my academic skills, but I have also developed and gained a variety of different skills that I didn’t think I would. The Sixth Form’s teaching and societies available have now put me into a good position to get into one of my top universities and I would very much recommend applying to Beauchamps Sixth Form to any Year 11 pupil!Oliver B - Studying A Level Biology,

Sports For ChampionsOn Tuesday 2 October we were delighted to welcome a double Olympian into school to speak to our GCSE PE students. Montell Douglas, the first woman ever to represent Team GB at both a summer and winter Olympics, visited us to deliver a fitness circuit training session to over 100 Year 9, 10 and 11 students, all of whom are studying Physical Education as part of their chosen qualifications. Montell is the former British record holder over 100m, also winning the European Cup Gold in the Bobsleigh event and making the 2018 Pyeonchang Winter Olympic Team. The students enjoyed participating in an energetic range of activities to fully test their agility and skills. Montell then spoke to the students about the importance of resilience and working hard, even when faced with barriers in life, and the need to always follow their dreams. All students had been busy raising money for charity in advance of the afternoon, and the students who raised the most money for the Sport for Champions cause were then given the opportunity to have their photograph taken with Montell! An amazing total of £425 was raised.Students Cameron, Sian and Callum from Year 11 said, “It certainly was an inspiring afternoon – we were tremendously privileged to meet such an empowering individual and it’s really given us something to think about.”

Computer Workshop Year 7 students and Parents

Teen Cancer Talk Year 10 and 11

The Computer Science Department had a great start to the year with the Year 7 SNAP programming workshops held on 13 and 27 September. The sessions are designed to introduce parents and students to some of the programming concepts covered during Year 7 in the Computer Science department. All the attendees had great fun designing and building their own space invaders game with some great creativity and different takes on the old classic. We had a fantastic response to our letter with 39 students and their parents turning up to the first session, and a fully booked second

session! The feedback from parents was extremely positive and they seemed to enjoy it as much as their children.

Jack Petchey Awards: On Thursday 20 September, I had the privilege of attending 'The Jack Petchey Awards Presentation Evening' held to celebrate the achievements of young people at The Towngate Theatre in Basildon. The Jack Petchey Foundation awards monthly grants of £250 to many schools and clubs throughout London and the South East. Nominated students award their grant to the department of their choice. Departments in turn spend the grant on equipment or facilities that will further the opportunities for the students.

During the event nine past and present B e a u c h a m p s students were presented with a boxed medallion in recognition of their achievements at school. These students were:Ellie W, Sid N, Dylan M, Aimee M, Phoebe C, Josh M, Bethany W, Bob M(former student), Tom R (former student) Report by Mr P Mower

Congratulations to Rosie R, Daniella O, Demi K, and Latisha M in Year 9 who handed in a credit card that they found on their way to school.

Congratulations to Kai W in Year 11 who handed in a debit card he found.

Congratulations to Youmna H in Year 11 who handed in a wallet. She then spotted a student looking for something and brought him to Student Reception as she rightly thought he was the owner of the wallet.

Our Achievements and Successes Let’s Shout About Our Students and Staff!Macmillan Coffee Mornings for Macmillan Cancer SupportCongratulations to our year 10 and students who took part in Macmillan Coffee Mornings at school on 28 September and devoted their break and lunch time to selling as many cakes as possible to raise money

supported them with their Macmillan Coffee Morning on 4 October.

This September has been a busy month for everyone – adjusting to the new classrooms, year seven students settling in, and new timetables. For year eleven students we had interviews in which a local business owner would come in and ask questions about our CVs and personal statements. I think everyone found this really helpful as it is great preparation for the college or apprenticeship interviews many will be facing soon. In addition, Cameron and I spoke to the year 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 students about a person that inspired us in morning assemblies. This was something that was both extremely challenging but also rewarding as it was the first time speaking to my

My experience as Head Boy so far this year has been amazing, I’ve felt a great level of pride in this role always trying to be a role model to my peers. Just from the chances of public speaking I’ve been given this year so far, my confidence has shot up significantly. For example, recently Eleanor and I had to prepare a speech on our inspirations and how they use their voice in society as we’re encouraging the idea of using your voice whenever you get the chance. The start of this year has run very well and the year 7 students have settled in wonderfully. The students have integrated very smoothly into the Beauchamps community with

peers and I think public speaking is a challenge for most people. However, I’ve taken away from this great experience a life lesson that’s given me much more confidence. Nerves are building for everyone as we approach upcoming changes; I’m excited to be attending and helping out with mentoring and revision sessions in music and other subjects. My advice to everyone would be start preparing early in order to feel more confident later down the line. Being Head Girl so far has included attending meetings, speaking in assemblies, and planning events; experiences I’d say have been important in learning lessons and how to plan and speak out with purpose.

little to no issues. I would like to encourage students this year to get involved in the wide spread of extra-curricular activities available at the school and look out for the upcoming activities we are planning to have an offer later on this year. The school has loved the new astroturf facility and it has opened up a big door for our PE department as will the brand new gym facility that we’re looking forward to opening for use. I would also like to thank all the prefects and senior prefects for doing a fantastic job so far, fulfilling all their duties and setting great examples for all of the younger students to look up to.

I wish everyone good luck in the upcoming year and it’s been a great start – enjoy the break! Report by Eleanor M - Head Girl

I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve this year and encourage everyone to combine the hard work! Report by Cameron W - Head Boy
