Beating the Blues
What are signs of depression?• Overwhelming or persistent
feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness
• Loss of appetite or eating too much
• Difficulty falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much
• Increased isolation• Not attending classes or other
activities regularly• Irritability or shifts in mood• Difficulty concentrating,
remembering things, or making decisions
• Expressing thoughts of self harm, dying, or suicide
How can I get help?• Visit a counselor in
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) – located on the 3rd floor of Snell Hall. You can make an appointment by calling 541-737-2131
• Spend time with others and talk to people you trust about how you’re feeling
• Take care of yourself – get enough sleep, eat healthy, and try to stay physically active
How can I support a friend who is depressed or stressed?
• Talk to your friend and listen to what they have to say.
• Offer support and encouragement.
• Continue to invite your friend to do fun things together.
• Never ignore comments about suicide or self-harm.

The Mind Spa is a room on campus designed for relaxation and meditation!
Features include:• Full body massage chair• A wall fountain• Biofeedback games• A Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Open from 8 AM – 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. Contact CAPS at 541-737-2131 to reserve a time.
To beat the blues, find a way to have some fun everyday This could include any number of things: Exercise, journaling, joining a club or organization, reading for fun, watching a movie or favorite TV show, spending time with friends, or any other activity you enjoy.
To beat the blues, don’t wait until the last minute
Take larger academic coursework and break it down into manageable pieces. Take advantage of academic resources on campus: In-Hall Tutors, the Collaborative Learning Center (Valley Library), the Academic Success Center (Waldo Hall), or your faculty’s office hours

Get plenty of rest, eat a healthy, balanced diet, and try to get some physical activity in every day.
