John Dillman of Beta Seed was the speaker for the July meeting. John spoke on Ag Safety Days which is September 24th. Beta Seed & the Agri Business Committee sponsor Ag Safety for Mitchell and Morrill schools. This is part of a nation wide program developed by Progressive Farmer. Stations include the grain bin, ATV, overhead power lines, water, and bicycle and PTO safety. UNL Panhandle Research & Extension Center will have an open house on August 19th .Bean Day tours will be in the morning and during the open house in the afternoon, the Agri-Business Committee will serve watermelon. The next meeting will be Sept. 4th at 7 a.m.the Gering Civic Center. The speaker will be a new UNL faculty from PREC.

June visits included Oriental House, Lulu’s Sugar Shack, Midwest Slingers, A Lil Bit of Everything, Optimal Family Preservation, Prairie Floral, and B & T Metals. Ribbon cuttings were also held for Reganis-Honda’s new location and also Dunham Sports. July’s meeting will be on the 10th at 11 a.m. at Runza in Gering to celebrate their renovation. There will also be a ribbon cutting on July 15th at 1 p.m. for WNCC’s Pioneer Hall.

Government Affairs met on June 3 in the Scottsbluff Runza Community Center for a Legislative Wrap Up with District 48 State Senator John Stinner. He shared the State Budget, Historical General Fund Appropriations and a status listing of all 659 bills that were presented this year. Senator Stinner present 8 bills and 6 passed. The Government Affairs Committee does not meet during the summer months. State of the Valley has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hampton Inn. The next committee meeting will be September 28th at noon in the Bluffs Business Center Boardroom.

Valley Visions Task Force met June 10. Updates on the business corridors were given for both Scottsbluff and Gering. Scottsbluff is currently working on parking lots on Avenue A. Plantings were done with the assistance of the Next Young Professionals on June 22nd. The unveiling of the six bike racks to be featured on Broadway was held on June 5th in the parking lot next to West Nebraska Arts Center. These bike racks were created by artists the Next Young Professionals had commissioned. The next meeting is Wednesday, July 8th at 7:30 a.m. in the Bluffs Business Center Boardroom.

NEXT has been busy this summer. They helped plant trees and grasses in two downtown Scottsbluff parking lots and volunteered at the Gering Member/ Guest golf tournament. For the 2nd straight year they built a float for the OTD parade, and helped bring the Good Living Tour concert to Gering on July 19th. Plans are underway for the 5th annual Beer and Wine Festival on August 15th in downtown Scottsbluff. The next board meeting will be August 5 at noon.

The Committee does not meet during the summer months. Adopt-a-School Picnic will be Wed., August 5th in the PVB-Falco Community room at noon. Career Academies Prologue will be Thursday, September 17th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Plex Room at WNCC’s Harms Center. Plans are to present where each school is in the planning process and how business can assist in developing our future workforce. The next Business Education Committee meeting will be Tuesday, September 8th at 4 p.m. in the Bluffs Business Center boardroom.

This is an excellent opportunity to meet new people and enhance your leadership skills! This program begins in with an orientation on August 26th and runs from September through April. It is a full day on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. In February the class participates in the chamber’s Legislative Trip to Lincoln. If you have ques-tions give us a call at 632-2133.

GLOBAL LEADERSHIP SUMMIT is August 6-7 at the Ger-ing Civic Center. This summit transforms leaders around the world with an injection of vision, skill development and inspiration.
