Introduction*'The' purpose' of' this' background' paper' is' to' provide' supporting' information/evidence'regarding'the'value'of'green'spaces'in'Beadnell,'in'order'to'support'their'designation'as'Local'Green'Spaces'through'the'North'Northumberland'Coast'Neighbourhood'Plan.'''A'number'of'potential'local'green'spaces'were'discounted,'(these'are'summarised'at'the'end'of'the'paper).''The'remaining'green'spaces'are'numbered'1'0'6:''1.' Ebb's'Sneuk/Beadnell'Point'2.' Lady'Hole'Bay'Green'Space''3.' Old'School'Playground'area'off'Meadow'Lane'4.' Longstone'Estate'Open'Spaces'(four'small'interlinking'areas'within'the'estate)'5.' St.'Ebba's'Way'open'space'(in'new'housing'development)'6.' The'Haven''*Background*'Beadnell'sees'significant'pressure'for'development,'and'this'is'borne'out'by'the'number'of'planning' applications' received' for' infill' developments,' intensification' of' the' use' of' sites'(replacing'one'dwelling'with'two),'and'particularly'pressure'along'the'coastal'strip'seaward'of'Harbour'Road,'for'housing'where'sea'views'are'at'a'premium.''''These' applications' have' been' consistently' refused' in' recent' years,' partly' on' landscape'grounds' and' impact' on' the' AONB,' and' partly' in' relation' to' potential' erosion/shoreline'management'issues.''''None' of' the' areas' proposed' currently' have' planning' applications' on' them,' and' none' are'allocated'for'development.''The'coastal'areas'are'highly'valued'by'residents'and'visitors,'for'the'contribution'they'make'to'the'local'landscape'and'seascape.''They'also'all'have'significant'biodiversity'value,'and'are'adjacent'to,'or'comprise'designated'sites.''In'some'cases,'sites'have'significant'local'historic'value'as'well.'''Within'the'built'up'area,'there'are'a'number'of'smaller'green'spaces'that'have'an'important'role'to'play'in'providing'a'space'for'local'residents/visitors.''Many'of'the'houses'in'these'areas'have' small' gardens' or' little' outdoor' amenity' space,'making' the' spaces'more' valuable' to'residents'and'visitors.'''Consultation**There'has'been'significant'early'consultation'in'the'development'of'the'neighbourhood'plan.''All'these'spaces'were'cited'as'being'important'by'residents'in'Beadnell.''It'is'evident'from'the'amount'of'use'of'these'areas,'that'they'are'highly'valued'by'the'local'community,'and'by'visitors'to'Beadnell.'* *
