Page will be bringing a bag of laughter for her April Fool's Day sermon. Jane has promised to teach us some "laughing yoga" and preach a sermon on the lighter side; the third in a series of sermons she's sharing with us this year based on phrases from Ric Masten's song, "Let it be a Dance." April 8 “What Will Become Of The Dream?” UU Rev. Dr. Neal Jones of UU Columbia, SC Rev. Dave Johnson of UU Winston-Salem NC As we mark Earth Day 2012, we’ll consider the impact of hu- man actions upon the interdependent web of life: From fragile ecosystems threatened by human encroachment to rising sea levels advancing inland over populated shorelines. How shall we choose wisely in our role as stewards of the inter- dependent web of life? April 29 "What About Jesus?" UU Rev. Lynne Garner of UU Brunswick, GA Rev. Garner will speak on how Unitarian Universalists ap- proach Jesus and the writing about Him. Children and Youth Religious Education from 10 am to 11 am. Refreshments following service. Our church is located at 110 Malphrus Road, Bluffton. For further details please call: 843-837-3330 FROM REV. MANUEL HOL- LAND Recently when I spoke about the right to know I ex- pressed appreciation for a recent letter to the editor which Cheryl Kanuck had written about a war on women’s rights and I also expressed appreciation for the regular appearance of letters to the editor by Frank Flaumenhauf. It is very important that we take time to inform each oth- er of our opinions on vital issues, especially in the heat of political debate between now and the national elections in November. Letter writing isn’t the only way of informing each other, as was made clear by an article Folly King sent to a number of us. The article, appeared in the March 11th The Washington Monthly. The article was titled “The Incomplete Greatness of Barack Obama”. Whether you are a Democrat, a Republican, an Independent, or a Repugnacrat, you owe it to yourself to read the article in its entirety. You may not agree with some of the conclu- sions which others might be led to; however, you will gain a perspective which may help in the formation of your opinions. UUCL IS NOT A BUSINESS - HOWEVER…The ex- penses of providing our services and programs and main- taining our facilities must be met. It is incredible how much has been accomplished this past year with so little money. Our officers, board members, and committee chairs and members are to be congratulated on the fiscal responsibility they have shown. There are many needs which have not been met and we will have even greater challenges in the fiscal year which begins July 1 st . In the dinner meetings planned between now and the Annual Meeting on May 20 th , information will be presented con- cerning the goals and aspirations which the new budget will attempt to fulfill. Every member and friend of our congregation is called upon to learn of the challenges and opportunities which we face and to keep them in mind when asked to make a financial pledge for the budget which will start July 1 st . ~ Rev. THE SOUTHERN UU LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE(SUULE)

Sixty-two UU Leaders gathered during the week of February 19th to grow their leadership skills Each dayrsquos theme was based on one of James Luther Adamrsquos Five Smooth Stones of Lib-eral Religion

1 Revelation is open and continuous 2 Relationships are consensual never coerced 3 We have an obligation to work toward a just and loving community 4 We deny the immaculate conception of virtue good things are done through hard work done by human

hands 5 Resources both human and divine are available to help us achieve meaningful changes and that is the

reason for ultimate optimism Our days started with worship centered on that dayrsquos smooth stone We then learned new lead-ership tools and new ways to see the world The lectures were followed by practicing what we had learned in small groups We then came together into whole group to share our experiences In the evening we participated in a wide offering of spiritual practices to help us decompress from the dayrsquos activities We finished our day in small covenant groups that facilitated deep sharing in a safe space Participants faculty and staff left on a high with big plans and bright hopes for the future of our congregations our UU Association and the world Follow up quarterly teleconferences will be held so that participants can share their accomplishments and struggles From Peter Kandis (Peter Kandis is a new member of our congregation and the Dean of SUULE He and Ann Harrison will be married this month and Peter will move to Hilton Head)

SAVE THE DATE

follow May 20thrsquos worship service

THE SOUTHERN UU LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE(SUULE)

Sixty-two UU Leaders gathered during the week of February 19th to grow their leadership skills Each dayrsquos theme was based on one of James Luther Adamrsquos Five Smooth Stones of Lib-eral Religion

hands 5 Resources both human and divine are available to help us achieve meaningful changes and that is the

reason for ultimate optimism Our days started with worship centered on that dayrsquos smooth stone We then learned new lead-ership tools and new ways to see the world The lectures were followed by practicing what we had learned in small groups We then came together into whole group to share our experiences In the evening we participated in a wide offering of spiritual practices to help us decompress from the dayrsquos activities We finished our day in small covenant groups that facilitated deep sharing in a safe space Participants faculty and staff left on a high with big plans and bright hopes for the future of our congregations our UU Association and the world Follow up quarterly teleconferences will be held so that participants can share their accomplishments and struggles From Peter Kandis (Peter Kandis is a new member of our congregation and the Dean of SUULE He and Ann Harrison will be married this month and Peter will move to Hilton Head)

GIVE YOURSELF A TREAT

Putting Your Life in Perspective by Connecting Family Generations How did you get to be the best person you are What family members in your near and distant past have helped you get here How can you identify and communicate what have been the best qualities of your family and yourself that are important to you How would you like to see yourself and your family move forward from here The answers to these questions can be inter-esting and helpful to our families and ourselves as we grow older or at any point of transition in our lives Combining genealogy positive psychology and legacy writing can help us get there

This family analysis and writing workshop will be offered by John Quirk and Jan Alpert for three evenings on Tuesday April 24 Thursday April 26 and Tuesday May 1 from 530 to 700 pm at UUCL The program will introduce you to family history analyses identifying your familyrsquos personal strengths and how to incorporate them in a family legacy document This fun project will require a minimum of 6 people for it to go A signup up sheet will be available in the foyer

The March 18th Membership 101 Session follow-ing morning service was very successful

The room was filled to capacity as friends and members gathered to learn a little more about Unitarian Universalism and just how we operate here at UUCL
