The Way Wasaga Was Happy New Year to all!The aim of Beach BOOSTER Group is to boost business in Wasaga Beach and promote our town in a positive way. We are all very lucky to live in a communty like Wasaga Beach, with its unique offerings of Summer and Winter recreation, wide variety of creative and friendly businesses and of course the many generous and caring people who call The Beach home!Over the past twelve months, Beach BOOSTER has presented, sponsored and/or participated in many local community events in Wasaga Beach. We have enjoyed working with many great people who without their hard work and mutual love of The Beach, some of these events would not have been possible. Bill and I are truly proud to take part in all of the activities or events we attend each week and enjoy spending time with you, our neighbours and friends. We hope to be even more active in our community in 2012 with some very exciting and unique projects underway! We have put together a time-line of some of the events we enjoyed being a part of in the year just passed. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over 2011 and I truly look forward to a very bright and positive 2012 for all in Wasaga Beach. Joe

Music Angel Gets High Praise

After having a chance to try the Music Angel I can truly say I’m impressed. The sound is great and the convenience of a small portable speaker system with an internal rechargeable battery can’t be beat. It’s so versatile I’ve enjoyed using it while in my office, relaxing on the deck and surfing the internet. It

has turned my Ipad from a device that cuts you off from the people around you to a music source to be enjoyed by the entire group. The FM Radio reception is excellent and I'm putting on all my favourite music on a Mini SD CARD to be played on Music Angel. Thanks, Joe., Wasaga Beach

When you think of police officers many people think of law enforcement and protection of the community. As a police officer you witness many negative situations and events but what goes unreported are the many acts of kindness and law-abiding choices among members of our community.

An opportunity to reward and commend the positive behaviour of many citizens was recognized by myself and Constable Mark Kinney. In partnership with the Town of Wasaga Beach, the Huronia West OPP Detachment and many supportive businesses we are proud to officially announce the 'Do Good" campaign. The first goal of the campaign is to provide our local OPP officers the ability to recognize deserving citizens on an action or behaviour that was noticeably the right thing to do. An example of this is where someone pulls over and stops in a safe place to use to use their mobile phone. If an officer witnesses a "good" or "kind" act they will be encouraged to pass out a 'Do Good' coupon booklet to the individual. The purpose is to encourage citizens to 'Do Good' within our community and to allow our local officers the opportunity to show their appreciation to someone for doing good. The second goal of the campaign is to encourage local shopping within the many businesses throughout the Town of Wasaga Beach. As always the positive response we received for local businesses was outstanding. There are currently 17 different businesses throughout town who are participating by the way of offering either a substantial discount or a complimentary item.

stThe kickoff to the campaign is February 1 and will continue through the entire month of February. On behalf of the Huronia West OPP Detachment, the Town of Wasaga Beach and your local business community thank you for doing good; it's the right thing to do!

Movie Review: HUGOby Peter Frieday www.moviesopeningthisweek.com

Release Date: Wednesday November 23, 2011Genre: Drama, Family, Fantasy Studio: Paramount PicturesDirector: Martin Scorsese Screenplay: John LoganCast: Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield,Chloë Grace Moretz, Ray Winstone, Emily Mortimer, Christopher Lee Helen McCrory, Michael Stuhlbarg, Frances de la Tour, Jude LawHugo (2011) is not just another movie. More accurately, it should be regarded as a highly passionate display of film making crafted by the distinguished film director Martin Scorsese. It is more than just a story. Hugo is a complete package because it has all the qualities of excellence that we see in rare and finer films. It is also a director showing us his personal inspiration from the early cinema pioneers. In my estimation; Hugo is one of Martin Scorsese’s foremost films.Hugo is a visually stunning adaptation of Brian Selznick’s illustrated book “The Invention of Hugo Cabret”. In early 1930’s Paris, Hugo Cabret ( Asa Butterfield ) lives and survives as a parent-less young boy. He must disguise the fact that he is an orphan in order to evade capture by a mean spirited train station inspector (Sacha Baron Cohen) by living inside and fixing the train station clock where his now deceased father worked as the master clock worker. Hugo steals food to survive and spends his time admiring and dreaming about repairing a broken automaton — a mechanical robot – which his father was working on prior to his death. The automaton is missing a special heart shaped key to make it work. Hugo believes that the automaton contains a message from his father and he becomes obsessed with fixing the machine. Eventually Hugo becomes friends with a young girl named Isabelle (Chloë Grace Moretz) the goddaughter of the train station toy shop owner Georges Méliès (Ben Kingsley) who is harboring a fascinating secret that ties in with the mystery behind the automaton.Outside of an interesting and entertaining story, one of the best features of Hugo is the exceptional cinematography and direction. The opening sequence of the camera panning towards and inside the interior of the train station was spectacular. The colors and imagery in Hugo had my eyes fixated on the screen throughout the duration of the movie. It will be an indulgence to see this movie once again on BluRay. The entire cast of actors were wonderful but the highlight for me was actor Asa Butterfield who performed his role as Hugo with a real genuineness that is noteworthy considering his young age. There is an important lesson for all of us in Hugo. We should all try to appreciate and cherish previous life passions and people that were central in our lives instead of living with unhappiness or remaining disappointed because we have become disenfranchised, suffered a loss or because times have changed. We can all live in the moment with an eagerness for living as we reach for new goals in our lives.

Note: Our movie reviewer, Peter Frieday, watches the movies mostly at our local Cineplex in Collingwood and volunteers to write reviews from his home in our area. Peter will not write a review about a movie unless he has seen the movie himself.

Tipping PointChanging

Wasaga Beach Lives

Gary Cerantola; [email protected]

Hi friends and neighbours, my name is Gary Cerantola and I am a proud resident of Wasaga Beach. I would like to promote your great

ideas to change our lives right here in Wasaga Beach to the betterment of us all. This new column in Beach Booster is written to engage all of you readers to come up with Tipping Point ideas for our community to ponder, of which I will write about to put us on the road to becoming a leading community in the Georgian Triangle. For starters let me define the term Tipping Point: the prevalence of a social phenomenon sufficient to set in motion a process of rapid change; the moment when such a change begins to occur. You can reach a Tipping Point by instigating cultural transformation through "Deep System Change". Let me translate that: You come up with a great idea that people get all excited about and are engaged to see it through.

For example, I am a very strong proponent of "Going Green" better known as "Sustainability"If you want to know more about sustainability write me a note at Beach Boosters and I will be happy to provide your group a presentation on where we as individual citizens can make a difference in making it a better world for our grandchildren. From this talk, I make a case for creating a world class "Sustainability Training Centre" right here in Wasaga Beach on a choice location right on our World's Largest Fresh Water (Blue Flag Rated) Beach. Think of it……This centre would be used to train, politicians, corporate executives, municipal leaders, etc., in the benefits of building sustainable infrastructure while creating white collar and green jobs right here in our community. We would be inviting visitors to come here from all over the continent to train and experience our local attractions and benefit from our down home hospitality. More to come…. I have an idea for blending Seniors Person-Centered Care & Sustainable Design facilities that can be built right here in Wasaga Beach. Send me your great ideas on how you think will change our lives in Wasaga Beach and I will write about your tipping point suggestions. Hope to hear from you soon.

Stern NurseAn older gent had an appointment to see a urologist who shared an office with several other doctors. The waiting room was filled with patients. The old gentleman approached the receptionist desk. The receptionist was a large imposing woman who looked like a wrestler. He gave her his name.

In a very loud voice the receptionist said, "Yes, I see your name here. You want to see the doctor about impotence, right?" The heads of all the patients in the waiting room snapped around, to look at the very embarrassed man.

The old gent recovered quickly though, and in an equally loud voice replied, "No, I've come to inquire about a sex change operation... And, I'd like the same doctor that did yours!"

Enjoy riding in groups or checking out new areas? Join the Wasaga Snowmobile Club on THE THURSDAY NIGHT RIDE! Each and every Thursday (trail conditions permitting) at the WSC Clubhouse and the Klondike Sportspark. The ride will leave promptly at 6:30 p.m. 3. Hurry Up...and WAIT!The season is upon us; the club volunteers have worked hard and steady getting those trails in shape. They have put up the stakes and signs to keep sledders on trail and headed in the right direction. The groomer stands at the ready, waiting for the word, to pack the fresh fallen snow into a smooth highway that will take us on an adventure. Snowmobilers have great memories; we remember those winters with copious amounts of fallen snow, and forget the years when there is little. Having read our last article, our sleds are waiting for that 1st ride, a ride we know will come, just when is the question. It is like Christmas Eve to children, the excitement of that 1st blast of a province wide storm, that crisp Northwest air coming off the bay…bringing that all important lake effect bliss and expectation of the season start. For now we will do what we sledders do: Hurry Up... and WAIT!
