Boone County Community Emergency Response Team

On March 10th-13th OEM in conjunction with the Boone County Fire Protection District hosted a Community

Emergency Response Team Basic Training for new members of Boone County (CERT). The training was held at the

Boone County Fire Protection District Training Center on Roger I Wilson Memorial Drive. It was a three day, 20-hour

course that trained members on emergency management, fire suppression, first aid, medical triage, and light search

and rescue. Upon conclusion of the course, we proudly welcomed 16 new members to the team, including three of

our staff members—Tom Hurley, Elizabeth Thompson, and Jordan Wright. Our staff members will attend further train-

ing in May to become course instructors.

These individuals are now able to assist first responders in the event of a large scale emergency or disaster. They have

the skills needed to ensure their families, homes, and neighbors are checked on, and provided for, in the initial

response effort post disaster. During prolonged events they will be able to aid in tasks such as wide area search, light

search and rescue, triage and prioritizing of victims, and many other functions.
