"Ability at Work" is the theme for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month 2014.
Bethel Lutheran Church & God’s Faithful Followers are celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month this month and invite you to consider the true meaning of this year’s theme, “Ability at Work!" Statewide, and across the nation, organizations devoted to serving individuals with developmental disabilities are working to raise public awareness of the many abilities people have, regardless of disability.
“Ability at Work” encourages people to understand that when people with disabilities are welcomed into local neighborhoods, workplaces, houses of worship, and schools--everyone wins. This is a time when our organization focuses on encouraging the public to better understand the individuals we serve.
During Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, you are encouraged to learn more about the people in our community who have developmental disabilities and to recognize that all of us have talents and abilities that we can offer to make this a better place to live.
We, at Bethel Lutheran Church, are blessed to have an opportunity to learn this first-hand at God’s Faithful Followers. Please consider visiting our ministry program on a Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. You’ll learn that everyone has something to offer and when we are all together our communities are stronger, we accomplish more, and everyone wins!
Winter weather is still hanging on!
If the weather seems too severe, please stay home and be safe.
If we are going to cancel worship,
we will let you know by an all congregational e-mail AND voice mail
when you call the church number 440-843-6663.
Journey Forward
Update for Bethel's Team with the Synod "Journey Forward" Project
The NE Ohio Synod's "Journey Forward" project seeks to
find how we (individuals and congregations) are called to
tend the Gospel and love God by serving our neighbor.
Entering its sixth month, the "Journey Forward" project is
currently in a "congregation engagement" phase.
In this phase, Bethel's "Journey Forward" team (Dan Karp,
Sue Van Straaten, Elfi Schuster, Ray Herzog, and Pastor Krebill) will be talking
with congregation members (one-on-one) about their whole lives, not just their
"church selves." By realizing how we, individually, improve ourselves, overcome
difficulties, and so forth, the "congregation engagement" phase seeks to adapt
individual ideals and inspirations to: (1) see how congregations perceive their
potential role for working effectively in their communities alongside others of
different faiths, cultures, and backgrounds; and (2) inspire greater growth, success,
and happiness for all of us, our congregations, our Synod, our communities, and
beyond.
~~~
Ten-year old Tom loved Sunday School and had perfect attendance, except one
Sunday when he was too ill to leave the house. His older sister stayed home with
him while mom and dad went to church. When they returned home, they had palm
branches. Curious, Tom asked what the palm branches were for. Dad explained
that people waved palm branches and laid them across Jesus' path. "Darn," Tom
scowls, "The one day I'm not there and He shows up!"
