Legal MattersWhat You Need To Know

The criteria for getting legally married in Seychelles are:

• Both spouses must be in Seychelles at least two days before the ceremony.

• Both spouses must be at least 18 years of age.

• Although same-sex marriage is not legally recognised in Seychelles, we can conduct a ceremony in celebration of your love to suit your individual requirements.

• Citizens/residents of Italy, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America must obtain two sets of wedding documents after the wedding for registration in their home countries.

The following documents must be presented to the Seychelles Civil Office before you may marry:

• Valid passport copies

• Birth certificates

If applicable, the following extra documents will also be requested:

• Decree absolute, if divorced

• Death certificate, if widowed

For any documents which are not in English or French, an official translation, stamped and signed by a solicitor, is required.

We must receive all required documents 21 working days before the wedding ceremony itself, otherwise a surcharge of SCR 750 (€50) will apply, payable to the registrar, for delayed documents. Please bring your original documents with you when you travel to Seychelles.

Surcharges apply for weddings taking place on weekends. The Seychelles Civil Office does not officiate civil marriage ceremonies on public holidays.

For Guests of French, Italian, or Swiss nationality, extra fees apply for registering the marriage with the respective embassy.

Getting married away from home may seem daunting at first, but the Team at Hilton Labriz is here to ensure that everything runs smoothly on your special day. While there are some legal requirements and documents which must be presented before you may get married in Seychelles, we do everything to make the process as easy as possible, so you can concentrate on enjoying your day.
