From our Divisional Leaders

Dear Pendel Divisional Family:

Welcome to Camp Ladore and our 150th year Army celebration! This has been a year of ‘Boundless’ blessings as we have remembered our beginnings in the East End of London by William and Catherine Booth, our heritage of 135 years since Eliza Shirley opened fire in Philadelphia and renewed our commitment to the ‘whole world redeeming’ through the wonderful and diverse ministries of this great Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division.

Our special guests for the weekend, the Chief of the Staff, Commissioner William Roberts and Commissioner Nancy Roberts, from International Headquarters, will lead us and join with our own delegates to the ‘Boundless’ Congress to bring the flavor and excitement of the international celebrations to our gathering.

It is our prayer that we will capture some of the joy in worship and fellowship that was experienced at the Congress while celebrating the rich ministry and fellowship that is unique to Pendel.

Praise to the Lord for His boundless blessings!

Boundless Logo

The logo displayed was designed by Kim Hansen and Jan Aasmann Størksen from Norway as the official logo for The Salvation Army’s 150th Anniversary Congress. The logo is comprised of interwoven doves, which symbolize the Holy Spirit, who is at the center of our movement and the colors, red, yellow, and blue represent both the Army colors and the diversity of our members. The doves come together in the shape of a star, which is the center of our flag and represents the fire of the Holy Spirit. Lastly, the overall shape of a circle represents the world redeemed by our Lord, Jesus Christ. The circle has no beginning or ending, reminding us of the eternal and boundless nature of God. God’s love, his salvation and his grace are indeed boundless and worthy of our acknowledgement.

Commissioner William Roberts took office as Chief of the Staff on 1 October 2013 and Commissioner Nancy Roberts became World Secretary for Women’s Ministries. They came to these roles having been national leaders of The Salvation Army in the United States of America for three years. They bring to their present responsibilities a broad and varied background of service, both in the United States and internationally. As national leaders, USA, they served as the General’s appointed representatives in the United States, coordinating, supporting and promoting matters of national concern to The Salvation Army.

Special Guests

Major Walter DrozMajor Walter Droz was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He and his wife of 44 years, Major Marta Droz, have four children and eight grandchildren.

Major Droz came to know The Salvation Army in 1979 while the family was going through a very difficult time. His third child Martin

was born with a serious heart condition that needed open heart surgery, an operation that could not be performed until he was three years old. During those three years, the most dreadful moment of his everday life was the walk from Martin’s room door to his crib—he never knew if his son was going to be alive that day. The Salvation Army Bayamon Corps, with then Captains Roberto & Mercedes Pagan, became aware of the situation and began to provide moral and spiritual support to the family. Praise God, Martin is doing well today and serving the Lord. The Lord used the ministry of loving care and support to bring Majors Droz to know Him and they accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord and were enrolled as Soldiers in 1980.

Responding to His call in September 1982, Major Droz and his wife Marta left Puerto Rico and began the Hispanic ministry at the York, Pennsylvania Corps. Over the coming years, they went from cadets to Lieutenants, leading in various Corps in New York, Connecticut and Puerto Rico, to Morristown Corps in New Jersey where Major Droz has served by the grace of God for the last 10 years.

Major Droz will retire on November 1st of this year after serving the Lord as an officer since 1985. He has served the Lord with joy in every circumstance. God has been faithful.

Major Droz echoes the words of Paul in Ephesians 3:8, “Although I am less than the least of all God’s people, this grace was given to me: to preach to the gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.”

Special Guests

Joe Castillo, Sand ArtistArtist, author, pastor, entrepreneur —all these words describe Joe Castillo, and yet none of them adequately encompass his versatile skills or his passion for encouraging others.

A native of Mexico City, Joe grew up surrounded by art and the cosmopolitan culture of an

international city. In his teenage years a gospel message presented by a Christian Chalk artist brought him to faith in Christ. Moving to Florida, he attended Ringling School of Art, and graduated from Florida Bible College. Starting his career as a Christian businessman, he founded The Advertising Library, a successful advertising agency in Knoxville, Tennessee. After 20 years in advertising, he returned to school and received a M.A. in Biblical Studies and M. Div. from Asbury Seminary. He pastored a church in Richmond, Kentucky for five years, Executive Director of Christian Hospitality Network for two years, now travels full time speaking and performing world wide.

Joe has continued to nurture his artistic roots. He has also developed a number of “Live Art” presentations that use intricately crafted illustrations to teach Biblical truths as they unfold. The most famous of these is the “Face of Christ” in which a number of illustrations depicting Jesus’ life combine to create a larger illustration of the Savior’s face. His artwork has been sold worldwide and touched the lives of hundreds of people. Stories of the lives impacted by his artwork have been compiled in a book entitled “The Face of Christ”. His latest artistic venture called “Sand Art”, is a live-art presentation performed to music and projected for a stunning visual effect. Joe is an artist, author and storyteller with a passion for promoting the visual arts as a way of touching the heart.

Joe & his wife Cindy have four grown children, six grandchildren and call Atlanta GA, home.

Special Guests

Brett A. Myers, Children’s MinistryBrett A. Myers is an illusionist who has taken his talents around the world to share the gospel of Christ. Each year he performs over 140 shows that include army bases, theaters, colleges, conferences, corporations, and churches from coast to coast.

Born in Chambersburg, PA, he began touring at an early age and launched his ministry in 2005. Since then, he married his beautiful bride Labrina, and together they are now touring the country with their talents. Using a variety of amazing effects, Brett tells how he overcame fear, anxiety, and depression and how he discovered the true source of peace and fulfillment. His desire is to create environments that inspire life-change and challenge a person’s perception of reality, in a world of illusion.

Brett believes that the teachings and character of Jesus Christ, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, are paramount to the way he lives out every facet of his life. He also believes that he must be the very best at what he does, so the audience will want to listen to the message God has entrusted to him.

When talking to hosts about his philosophy behind ministry, he often uses the example of Michael Jordan that a teacher once told him: “What does he know about clothing that I don’t? Absolutely nothing. But he gets paid millions of dollars to do clothing commercials. Why? People believe that he is a credible person because he’s extremely gifted at what he does: basketball.” In the same way, Brett builds credibility with the audience through excellence in the talent that God has given him. Once a bridge of credibility is established, he can then effectively share his faith to an audience that is interested in what he has to say.

Music Leaders

Pendel Brass and SingersThe Pendel Brass and Singers of The Salvation Army are a group of musicians from Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware (PENDEL), USA. In addition to offering time and musical talents, members devote themselves to weekly rehearsals and services at their local corps

(church) homes. Leading and shepherding the group has been Dr. Harold Burgmayer, Pendel Divisional Music Director for 35 years, and his wife Priscilla Burgmayer.

Since its establishment in 1964, the mission of the Pendel Brass and Singers has always been to exhibit the love of God and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through music ministry, fellowship, and service. Mission and evangelism are at the heart of the group’s

purpose. The band plays a wide and varied repertoire of stirring marches, sensitive hymn tune settings, classical transcriptions, featured soloists, and more developed festival arrangements. The Singers perform arrangements of familiar hymn and gospel songs, as well as more recent Christian vocal literature.

Each year, the Pendel Brass and Singers perform two concerts within the division. At least once a year, the group travels within The Salvation Army’s Eastern Territory to collaborate with other corps, churches, and ministry groups in musical worship and outreach. The group has also shared its ministry on tours to USA South and West, Canada, South America, Scandinavia, Jamaica, and the Virgin Islands.

Music Leaders

Dr. Harold BurgmayerHarold has served as Divisional Music Director for The Salvation Army in Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, USA (Pendel) since 1981, including leadership of the Pendel Brass and Singers. This select ensemble has faithfully supported meetings in the Pendel Division,

recorded fourteen albums, and traveled to South America, Canada, the Caribbean, Scandinavia, South Africa, and throughout the US, including participation in the Rose Parade.

At age fourteen, Harold began conducting and arranging music for his corps community center (church) band in Levittown, Pennsylvania, while benefiting from Salvation Army Pendel divisional music programs under the leadership of Bandmaster Kenneth Strehle and later, Bandmaster Ivor and Songster Leader Janette Bosanko. In the fall of 1973, Harold began architectural studies at the prestigious Cooper Union and was invited to join The Salvation Army New York Staff Band under Bandmaster Derek Smith. The advent of Harold’s desire to pursue music composition coincides with a commitment to Jesus Christ made in the spring of 1977.

Harold completed Master and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees in Music Composition from Temple University and has produced more than 350 arrangements and compositions, ranging from simple children’s songs to major works for brass band to a symphony for full orchestra. He has taught as an adjunct instructor at Philadelphia Bible College and has appeared as a guest choral and brass clinician with emphasis given to the training of young musicians. Harold’s wife Priscilla has partnered with him in training young choirs and producing several instructional resources.

Harold and Priscilla have raised four daughters in Philadelphia: Sarah, Kathryn, Carissa, and Erin; and now have four grandchildren.

For 35 years, the Burgmayers have given their lives as an offering, pouring into hundreds of hearts and lives in the Pendel Division. They 14

We salute them both as Harold takes on a new realm of ministry as USA Central’s Territorial Music Secretary. “…when we heard of the solid trust you have in the Master Jesus and your outpouring of love to all the followers of Jesus, we couldn’t stop thanking God for you—every time we prayed, we’d think of you and give thanks. But we do more than thank. We ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers, oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him—endless energy, boundless strength!”

work in Slovakia. These funds will help two Roma communities: the Pezinok community and the Plavecky Štvrok community. We would like to help the Pezinok community begin their first steps for a community center and then supply basic furniture for the children’s rooms/schools in Plavecky Štvrok.

Offering: Our offerings this year will go towards the work in Slovakia. The Roma population in Slovakia is a very needy one and we wish to offer hope in their communities through the ministry of The Salvation Army beginning its work this year.

Gatherings: Make sure you attend all meetings as outlined in your schedule to make the most of this weekend.

We are very honored to have all our guests here and they have prepared from their hearts what God has directed. Please be in prayer that God will be glorified through all that takes place and that the Pendel Division will be renewed and will know that we are “Boundless” in what we can do for Christ.

Children’s Meetings: You will find the list of Children’s Meetings on page 6 describing locations and age breakdowns. You will note that the 6–12 year olds will be attending the main gathering on Friday night but will resume regular children’s meeting as indicated for the remainder of the weekend. Child-care will open 15 minutes prior to the start of meetings. A parent must sign-in when dropping off his/her child. We ask that all children are picked up within 15 minutes after the conclusion of each meeting. Thank you to our Youth Department staff and all child-care staff for their love and care of our children.

Camp Store: The Camp Store will be up and running during the designated times listed in your schedule. If you are looking for camp wear and miscellaneous Camp Ladore products, be sure to check them out! Don’t forget to purchase a sweatshirt for the cool nights!

Check Out: We are extremely grateful to the full-time camp staff here at Camp Ladore and the way they are able to keep the grounds and buildings so beautiful. Please take care of everything while you visit for the weekend. Take your trash with you as you leave meetings in the PARC. Pick up any trash as you are walking around. As you leave on Sunday, make sure you leave your place of lodging in good condition. Please take sheets off the bed and leave in the rooms, and make sure you pack up all of your belongings.

Lost and Found: If you find something that does not belong to you, please turn it in to Mark Scott or a DHQ Officer so that we can find the rightful owner. Thank You!

O Boundless Salvation

Friday Evening Songs

O boundless salvation! deep ocean of love,O fulness of mercy, Christ brought from above. The whole world redeeming, so rich and so free,Now flowing for all men, come, roll over me!

My sins they are many, their stains are so deep. And bitter the tears of remorse that I weep; But useless is weeping; thou great crimson sea,Thy waters can cleanse me, come, roll over me!

My tempers are fitful, my passions are strong,They bind my poor soul and they force me to wrong;Beneath thy blest billows deliverance I see,O come, mighty ocean, and roll over me!

Now tossed with temptation, then haunted with fears,My life has been joyless and useless for years;I feel something better most surely would beIf once thy pure waters would roll over me.

O ocean of mercy, oft longing I’ve stoodOn the brink of thy wonderful, life-giving flood!Once more I have reached this soul-cleansing sea,I will not go back till it rolls over me.

The tide is now flowing, I’m touching the wave,I hear the loud call of the mighty to save;My faith’s growing bolder, delivered I’ll be;I plunge ‘neath the waters, they roll over me.

And now, hallelujah! the rest of my daysShall gladly be spent in promoting his praiseWho opened his bosom to pour out this seaOf boundless salvation for you and for me.

Friday Evening Songs

Wonderful, merciful Savior, precious Redeemer and Friend; Who would have thought that a Lamb could rescue the souls of men? Oh, You rescue the souls of men.

You are the One that we praise, You are the One we adore. You give the healing and grace our hearts always hunger for, Oh, our hearts always hunger for.

Counselor, Comforter, Keeper, Spirit we long to embrace; You offer hope when our hearts have hopelessly lost the way, Oh, we hopelessly lost the way.

You are the One that we praise, You are the One we adore. You give the healing and grace our hearts always hunger for, Oh, our hearts always hunger for.

Almighty, infinite Father, faithfully loving Your own; Here in our weakness You find us falling before Your throne, Oh, we’re falling before Your throne.

You are the One that we praise, You are the One we adore. You give the healing and grace our hearts always hunger for, Oh, our hearts always hunger for.

You are the One that we praise, You are the One we adore. You give the healing and grace our hearts always hunger for, Oh, our hearts always hunger for.

Friday Evening Songs

The blood that Jesus shed for meWay back on CalvaryThe blood that gives me strengthFrom day to dayIt will never lose its power.

It reaches to the highest mountainAnd it flows to the lowest valleyThe blood that gives me strengthFrom day to dayIt will never lose its power.

It soothes my doubts and calms my fearsAnd it dries all my tearsThe blood that gives me strengthFrom day to dayIt will never lose its power.

It reaches to the highest mountainAnd it flows to the lowest valleyThe blood that gives me strengthFrom day to dayIt will never lose its power.

It reaches to the highest mountainAnd it flows to the lowest valleyThe blood that gives me strengthFrom day to dayIt will never loseIt will never loseIt will never lose its power.

Sunday Morning Songs

Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven,To his feet thy tribute bring;Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,Who like thee his praise should sing?Praise him!Praise the everlasting King!

Praise him for his grace and favorTo our fathers in distress;Praise him still the same as ever,Slow to chide and swift to bless;Praise him!Glorious in his faithfulness.

Father-like he tends and spares us;Well our feeble frame he knows,In his hands he gently bears us,Rescues us from all our foes.Praise him!Widely as his mercy flows.

Angels in the heights adore him, Ye behold him face to face;Sun and moon bow down before him;Dwellers all in time and space,Praise him!Praise with us the God of grace.

Sunday Morning Songs

He leadeth me! O blessed thought!O words with heavenly comfort fraught!Whate’er I do, where’er I be,Still ‘tis God’s hand that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, he leadeth me!By his own hand he leadeth me;His faithful follower I will be,For by his hand he leadeth me.

Sometimes ‘mid scene of deepest gloom,Sometimes where Eden’s bowers bloom,By waters still, o’er troubled sea,Still ‘tis his hand that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, he leadeth me!By his own hand he leadeth me;His faithful follower I will be,For by his hand he leadeth me.

Lord, I would clasp thy hand in mine,Nor ever murmur or repine,Content, whatever lot I see,Since ‘tis my God that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, he leadeth me!By his own hand he leadeth me;His faithful follower I will be,For by his hand he leadeth me.

And when my task on earth is done,When by thy grace the victory’s won,E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,Since God through Jordan leadeth me.

He leadeth me, he leadeth me!By his own hand he leadeth me;His faithful follower I will be,For by his hand he leadeth me.

Sunday Morning Songs

There are people hurting in the world out there.O Church, arise, and put your armor on;There are children crying and no one to care.An army bold, whose battle-cry is love,

O Church, arise, and put your armor on,Hear the call of Christ our CaptainFor now the weak can say that they are strongIn the strength that God has given.

With shield of faith and belt of Truth,We’ll stand against the devil’s lies.An army bold, whose battle-cry is love, Reaching out to those in darkness.

There are people hurting in the world out there. They need you, they need me, they need Christ. There are children crying and no one to care. They need you, they need me, they need Christ.

And they’ll go on hurting in the world out there, and they’ll go on dying, drowning in despair,And they’ll go on crying, that’s unless we care! They need you, they need me, they need Christ.

Our call to war - to love the captive soul,But to rage against the captor; And with the sword that makes the wounded whole,We will fight with faith and valor.

When faced with trials on ev’ry side,we know the outcome is secure,And Christ will have the prize for which He died - And inheritance of nations.

There are people living who would rather die. They need you, they need me, they need Christ. And their Christian neighbors simply pass them by!They need you, they need me, they need Christ.

Battle Cry / O Church Arise, continued

There are people sitting by a silent phone,People cold and hungry, people left alone,Suicides for reasons that remain unknown. They need you, they need me, they need Christ.

So Spirit, come, put strength in ev’ry stride,Give grace for ev’ry hurdle,That we may run with faith to win the prizeOf a servant good and faithful.

As saints of old still line the way,Retelling triumphs of His grace,We hear their calls and hunger for the dayWhen with Christ we stand in Glory.

O Church, arise, and put your armor on,Hear the call of Christ our Captain. For now the weak can say that they are strongIn the strength that God has given.

With shield of faith and belt of Truth,We’ll stand against the devil’s lies.An army bold, whose battle-cry is love,Reaching out to those in darkness.

O Church, arise, and put your armor on,Hear the call of Christ, Arise! Arise!

O boundless salvation! deep ocean of love,O fulness of mercy, Christ brought from above. The whole world redeeming, so rich and so free,Now flowing for all men, come, roll over me!

And now, hallelujah! the rest of my daysShall gladly be spent in promoting his praiseWho opened his bosom to pour out this seaOf boundless salvation for you and for me.

Sunday Morning Songs

I’ll go in the strength of the Lord,In paths he has marked for my feet;I’ll follow the light of his word,Nor shrink from the dangers I meet. His presence my steps shall attend,His fulness my wants shall supply; On him, till my journey shall end,My unwavering faith shall rely.

I’ll go (I’ll go), I’ll go in the strength, I’ll go in the strength of the Lord,I’ll go (I’ll go), I’ll go in the strength, I’ll go in the strength of the Lord.

I’ll go in the strength of the LordTo work he appoints me to do;In joy which his smile doth affordMy soul shall her vigor renew. His wisdom shall guard me from harm,His power my sufficiency prove;I’ll trust his omnipotent arm, And prove his unchangeable love.

I’ll go (I’ll go), I’ll go in the strength, I’ll go in the strength of the Lord,I’ll go (I’ll go), I’ll go in the strength, I’ll go in the strength of the Lord.

I’ll go in the strength of the LordTo conflicts which faith will require,His grace as my shield and reward,My courage and zeal shall inspire,Since he gives the word of command,To meet and encounter the foe,With his sword of truth in my hand,To suffer and triumph I’ll go.

I’ll go (I’ll go), I’ll go in the strength, I’ll go in the strength of the Lord,I’ll go (I’ll go), I’ll go in the strength, I’ll go in the strength of the Lord.

Doctrines of The Salvation Army

The Doctrines1. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by

inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.

2. We believe that there is only one God, who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship.

3. We believe that there are three persons in the Godhead – the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory.

4. We believe that in the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united, so that He is truly and properly God and truly and properly man.

5. We believe that our first parents were created in a state of innocency, but by their disobedience they lost their purity and happiness, and that in consequence of their fall all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God.

6. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has by His suffering and death made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will may be saved.

7. We believe that repentance towards God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit, are necessary to salvation.

8. We believe that we are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and that he that believeth hath the witness in himself.

9. We believe that continuance in the state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ.

10. We believe that it is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

11. We believe in the immortality of the soul; in the resurrection of the body; in the general judgment at the end of the world; in the eternal happiness of the righteous; and in the endless punishment of the wicked.

40
