Message - Editor In ChiefWelcome to yet another issue of Initium!

It gives me immense pleasure to present to you our next issue, which captures certain special moments and showcases all your achievements.

I have had a wonderful time working with a dynamic, young, new team of Initium editors. My heartfelt thanks and gratitude goes out to this team, kudos to their efforts and creativity!

I have also been overwhelmed by the response we received when we called for submission of articles for the newsletter. A huge thank you to the batch of 2015 – 2017, for their sheer enthusiasm and energy!

I am also indebted to our President, Prof. Sridhara Murthy for giving the opportunity to start a college newsletter. My thanks are also due to our Director, Prof. Srinidhi Parthasarathi for his invaluable guidance, Prof. Sreeranjan for his sheer patience! ;-), and to the entire NSB family for their support.

Every release of Initium represents not just a collection of articles, but a collection of memories. This is a product of YOU – the students of NSB, and is solely owned by YOU.

Initium is now in extremely capable hands, and is all set to grow even more in the coming years. Years from now, when I look back to see these editions of Initium, I know I will reminisce the joy amidst all the chaos we experienced in creating this.

Happy Reading!

June / July 2011 Issue 01 My journey with NSB Divya Nandakumar

The first thing that caught my eye when I entered NSB for admissions was a bold poster in the reception, with the words “We make you more valuable”.It didn’t make much sense to me, and I dismissed it as a vague attempt to lure students. Since then, every single day at NSB has taught me how wrong I was to assume that. What exactly did NSB do to make me “more valuable?”Academics apart, the school has given me some of life’s great-est lessons. It offered something that was common to all, something that had no restrictions, and, on top of all, some-thing that was free -OpportunityBe it music, dance or academics, there were opportunities galore. Of course, my batch had no dearth of talent. In every realm, there was stiff competition, which made it even more worthwhile. Each one of us had to fight it out to capitalize on those opportunities. Moreover, success in such an environ-ment tasted even sweeter. There is a saying that nature gives the test first, and then the lesson. My experience here is the same.Be it the sleepless nights before our BNAs, or even more sleepless nights spent preparing for our International Business presentations, struggling to get the group together for our MCT case studies… the biggest lesson I learned was patience. Patience, and of course, how to face an audience on stage, tackle questions and stand there appearing bold, irrespective of how nervous you are on the inside. The first semester also taught me confidence. It helped me be-lieve in myself, and strengthen my attitudes. It was then that, along with my classmates, we started the college newsletter – Initium. Though we had many struggles initially, we had solid support from NSB. Today, it has evolved from a 5 page news-letter to one with over 40 pages. Then, came the second semester. Along with that, came my biggest nightmare – Corporate Finance. It was a subject I had dreaded ever since I had decided to do my MBA. Of course, to top it all, University of Mysore decided to make it the tough-est paper in history. The irony is that the highest mark I scored among all my subjects was in Corporate Finance. The second semester was a hectic one. The initial excitement of joining college had settled, and things were getting more serious. On one hand, we were trying to keep pace with the onslaught of presentations and tests, on the other, our exams got postponed by over a month, making that semester seem never – ending. With no break at all, we straightaway descended in to the combined third and fourth sem. We now had our specialization classes. We had an overdose of subjects, as well as pre-placement training

We stayed back everyday until late in the evening, and dragged ourselves home to prepare for the next day’s lessons. The pressure also mounted day by day. Pressure for placements, internships, and so on. Mock interviews came into the picture. The tension of preparing the perfect resume added to our woes.

In between the third and fourth semester, we had a brief re-prieve – Activity Week. It was our week to relax and enjoy the non academic activities. Though I participated in a few activi-ties, I was not 100% involved. Somehow I felt drained, and all I wanted to do was finishing the task and going home. Notic-ing this, one of our professors called me aside, and gave me a talk that I would never forget. It felt as though someone had splashed cold water on my face to wake me up.I learnt that cracking an interview is not about how good a student you are. Even if you prepare all your life for it, if it’s not your day, then it just isn’t. Some situations tend to put us in a tough spot. However, it’s not the situations as such that you need to fight. Anyone who masters this will truly be benefitted in every sphere of life.

The most important attribute one needs to bring to the table during an interview is presence of mind. That is the only thing that will make a difference between you coming out with a job at hand, or going home empty handed. It is not just the knowledge you possess, but it’s how you link concepts, and put across this knowledge and present it in a way that would be appreciated by the interviewer. You need to stay on top of your game all the time. There is absolutely no room for error. Be it HR, Marketing or Finance, this is common across functions.I also learnt the importance of being level headed. When ap-preciation or success comes your way, take it with grace, and don’t get complacent. When something negative comes your way, again, take it, and don’t brood over it too much. Amidst all this learning was also a great deal of fun. Industrial visits, so called “group study”, club activities, canteen gossip, etc. are some of the unforgettable moments that each one of us would cherish. Upon reflecting on the time that has gone past, the biggest takeaway for me, is that I am content. No regrets whatsoever. To put it simply, was life at NSB what I expected it to be?Not quite. It turned out to be not just an education, but an experience; a roller coaster ride of learning, emotions, people and situations. It has shaped me in a way I never thought possible, by enrich-ing my personality.Today, as I see the next batch of students coming in to the college, with the same looks of apprehensions that I had two years ago, I smile.

People… a word which describes number of human beings together at a place, during one particular time. However, in NSB its different, for people are not just some random humans in a building, we are like a family. A big fam-ily from seventeen different states. Where language is never a barrier, and no one is a stranger for anyone. In our family, as any other family we also have the main man of the family as our, Director Sir, Mr. Srinidhi Parthasarathi. To describe him in a line, I would like to say, “A Man with Million Quotes.” Attending his lectures, I understood every situation can be summed up in a quote. A generous person with a kind personality. Then the next personality you’ll come across is our beloved President Sir, Mr. Sridhara Murthy, a multi-talented human being, extra-ordinary speaker and a great motivator. Know-ing him you’ll come to know, “Impossible is Nothing.”Then we have the blend-in personalities, Mr. Sreeranjan Menon and Mrs. Piyali Roy. There is a reason why, I said, “The Blend-in Personalities.” Everyone who is studying in NSB finds both of them really close to themselves. The bond these two individuals form with the students is amazingly strong and can’t be described in words. If you think only they are the main players of the family, then let me introduce to our awesome supporting staff, Mr. Veda Mouli, Mr. Sundar, Vishwa and all the non-teaching faculty. And now coming to my batch, the 2016-17 batch. Loads of crazy people, you name the type of craziness and you got it. We are a batch of 95 craze-heads. We have people speaking almost all the languages you can find in India. From scholars to out of box thinkers, we have everyone. From heroes to heroines, from loud ones to the quite ones. From the social to the loners and many more. We are a bunch of diverse people together in a family. We look out for each other, help each other, we even compete with each other. We love each other more than we quarrel among us. We are like a league of extra ordinary ladies and gentlemen. Each one unique to each other. No two personalities are the same. We are like a small India in a building. We have our moments, we win, we loose and its mutually exclusive. “It’s more like All for One and One for All.” And why am I writing this, just an overview of NSB fam-ily; How we are? Who we are? and mainly why you should become a part of this family. We are one big family away from our own family. Caring, Loving, Pampering, and a bit of strict yet lenient people. What more one can possibly ask from a family.“Welcome to My Family.”“Welcome to NSB.”

“It’s all about being able to make a difference “M.B.A is done everywhere in every college but providing something different ,can only be done by NSB ( National School Of Business ) .As every organisation has some cul-ture and philosophy to follow , NSB has a different culture too. This place has a lot to be spoken about, but “ ONE “ important key is diversity that makes NSB different from others .Class is not always about writing notes or answering to all the questions ,but there is some fun ,some excitement and some experience . Not only sitting in the last bench, but also sitting in the first and still being lost in our own world and not getting caught is also an experience . M.B.A at such a place is more than an experience . We not only have students from different states but also from different countries like FRANCE here .Being amongst these people and being identified as a batch with lots of love and affection is one of the most mesmerizing things . What does culture have to do with learning style? Over one-third of every audience is composed of people from diverse cultures and so is our college .Our diversity has a lot to speak about our culture that we follow at NSB than proving it with deeds .Mingling with them in the canteen , cracking jokes , sharing notes , preparing charts and articles in a team and most im-portantly representing NSB as the best place to learn within .Though we are getting to learn a new language from them ,but teaching them our language is much more funnier. “Not only is the calibre of the individuals very high but they also bring with them a fresh and interesting perspective to the in-class dynamic. If you go to a school with a smaller more manageable cohort, you are able to interact with everybody. The fact is that I got to know all of the people in my year group and I don’t think that would have happened if the cohort had been larger, along with new lovely people from France . We are a smaller and sweeter cohort .Diversity is ultimately about inclusion . Interacting with them and facing them creates an opportunity for us to think and act in the opposite way with an optimum solution to get the best result out of any situation which is mostly expected from an M.B.A.”(masters in business administration)”.WE assume that everyone is different and celebrate both the differences and similarities. “It will be lot easier if you go on thinking that everyone’s the same and you keep hitting the wall when you realize that they’re different”. So we form our own sentences and prepare our own way to present it before others .

As the proverb says, experience is the best teacher. Even though we are called very “studious” MBA aspirants, it is experience that actually moulds us to the level of managers that corporates are ready to place.

It was a fine Tuesday when our beloved President, along with the Director and faculties announced this good news and we were excitedly formed our groups. There were totally eight groups who worked in eight different Max stores in Bangalore. I was assigned to Indiranagar with Jincy, Deepti, Ritika, Amisha, Divya, Ajitha, Jyothi, Kruthika, Utkarsh The thing that set us down was that our internship was on weekends. However, as our faculties knew us very well, they made us free on Mondays which was a kind of desert oasis for us.Before commencing the internship, we got clear cut instructions and information about Max and the duties that we got assigned for, in a session that we had with Max managers. I felt very fortunate to grab such an opportunity to work as an intern in Max fashions, a retail subsidiary of Landmark group in Bangalore. Moreover, this was in our first semester of MBA. I didn’t expect that I could do an internship in the 1st sem which was a surplus or boost for us, thanks to NSB.

It was a total learning experience for me, even though it was a shift from my comfort zone. I learnt a lot from different departments. My main objective was observing the customer behavior. It is really interesting to watch how different people behave while shopping. I sometimes felt some customers are my mirror image. Handling kids in a retail shop is very difficult. In a way that is an advantage for retailers because children want anything and everything they see, so these retailers are advertising to attract small children also by giving balloons etc.Visual merchandising in Max fashions was so awesome that all of us, team Indiranagar ended up in helping them to increase their sales and profit with the amount of shopping we did.

While helping the customers, we had ended up purchasing clothes many times. I made some friends with Max sales people from whom I enjoyed the benefit of employee discount too. I performed almost every job in a re-tail shop. From folding the dresses to cashier, I did it all. I sometimes helped customers in selecting clothes by sug-gesting clothes as a fashion analyst. Internship was in a way total fun as we enjoyed in our own way. It was even more fun when our Director and

Sreeranjan Sir did a surprise visit. We all were relaxing after our lunch and taking selfies when they arrived! When the internship was about to end, it was a total busy schedule. That is when we got our Max tees that we supposed to wear while working. Cus-tomers entered like the sea. We were all assigned in cash counter to help cashiers, to give complimentary gifts to customers. Sales went up abruptly in those days where Indiranagar stood 2nd in profit margin. They celebrated that by cutting cakes, providing ice creams, snacks etc.

On the last day, all employees includ-ing store manager, sales manager thanked us and gave Max coffee cup as memento. They told us that they are looking forward to our support in future also including the shopping from our side.I struggled a little during this intern-ship as there were no weekends, hec-tic travelling, Bangalore traffic, outside food. But as the quote says, “it is bet-ter to sweat in practice than bleed in wars”. Yes, according to me it was a prior practice for us before entering to industry. I’m grateful to all NSB family members for arranging such an awe-some platform of learning with hands-on experience.

He, being a butterfly!- Maneesha PankajHe came like a butterfly to my life.

He is the one I was searching for;

He is the one I want to be with;

He is the dream I had for years;

He is the Prince of my fairy tales;

He is the melody that touched my soul.

He becomes a shoulder to hide my sad face,

He becomes the hands to wipe out my tears,

He becomes a beautiful smile on my weeping lips,

He turns himself to be a kiss on my dimple cheeks.

He becomes the pacemaker of my heart, whenever it desires to seize.

He becomes a melancholic song, whenever I want to furnish myself in solitude.

He gave me thoughts of being a lamp that turns darkness to light;

He made me realize that I'm a musk deer who carries the musk;

And goes around in search of the fragrance.

But, whenever I try to hold him on my arms;

He flies like a butterfly which wanders to touch and bud other's life!

WOMEN EMPOWERMENTRichie Sarah John‘Woman’- the creator and maintainer of every human being on Earth; She is the one who has the largest share in building any person’s value system, which in turn becomes the face of the society we live in. She gives birth to every man, but all her life she lives by the identity given to her by her man and the society. She hardly has her own identity! Though, today there’s a lot that has changed with respect to this. Women are slowly building their careers in order to have an identity of their own.

Until recent past, most of the woman’s contributions were confined only to the social unit called the Family. All the household chores and maintenance of the family members was her only job. With the dawn of the era of ‘Women Empowerment’, their contribution to the society has increased for sure. A large number of women are now highly educated, which helps them to be independent and aids them to fulfill their dreams.

On one hand, though, there are great achievements that women have achieved, yet on the other hand, we still hear cases about increased female infanticide, women harassed for dowry, sexual abuse etc. On one side, is the society that strives to empower women – by granting them equal rights in the society; yet on the other side is the patriarchal society, that tries hard to obstruct every move which may remotely help in empowering the women. In a country like India, it’s ironic that, issues like child marriages, dowry harassment, sexual abuse and gender bias at family level are prevalent, where women are considered as goddesses!

Though we have women like Kalpana Chawla, who’ve reached the space, yet we also have a number of baby girls being brutally aborted or killed every single day, on account of the mistake which they didn’t even commit - of being formed as a girl and not boy!

The poem “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Rules The World” (by William Ross Wallace), is so aptly written. It’s the Mother, who nurtures a child, helps him/her both physically and emotionally. All the virtues that a child learns are a part of all that the mother teaches at the early years of the life. Mother influences the child the most. Thus, if the woman is educated and independent, it’ll not only benefit her own self, but also her family and thereby the society, the country’s economy and also the generations to come.

Women are no less as compared to men in any aspect of life. Researches prove that women tend to make better professionals than the men. Thus, women need to be empowered to take their own decisions, to have equal right to life, education and job/career like that of the men.

Surely with rights come duties and responsibilities that should be diligently performed by women. They should not take undue advantage of the rights and laws created for their empowerment, to harm someone.

In conclusion – the women today, are no doubt, much more powerful and empowered than that of the previous generation; but still there’s a long way to go. And when there will be a society, a world, where men and women are treated as equals in every aspect, there will be reduced number of crimes, better standard of living and a peace that’ll prevail.

Sales: BEING THE JACK OF ALL TRADESRenishOn the first day of college when many where still

confused about what they are taking as specialization I was damn sure that marketing is something I want to do. Why? For a start, I love travelling and I would hate spending my life behind a desk. Sales is the final part of marketing. You can also say it’s the last yard on which the whole companies future depends. Sales person are like the Hindu god “kuber” to a firm. He brings in the main source of revenue. Revenue that gets the start-up there funding and a big firm to stand its ground in this highly competitive market.

After coming to Bangalore, I met a few very interesting people. Two of them have been my roommates for

a year now. One of them is Pankaj Sharma. He gave me a statement that has helped in many ways in thinking about a product. He said marketing is either to convince or to confuse, although it’s not easy to understand what that statement would do in a real life scenario. In an easier way you can say convince the customer with return on investment as to what he is getting when he pays a particular amount of money. If that doesn’t work, confuse him by making him scared of things like diseases etc. A typical life insurance sales guy’s pitch would start with an investment statement and would end on an emotional note asking “what will happen to your loved ones after you?”.

Now that second Guy Adarsha AKA “baba” quoted Philip Kotler’s statement as anything under the sun can be

sold. If you look back 2 years ago a thing called “selfie stick” would not have even crossed your mind.

Many of us think sales are just about talking. Well, you have to talk for sure, but it has both science and arts

in it. Art in the way of how you flow in your sales process.

Science in the way how you understand a person’s

interest and understand his behaviour towards you. A sale is the perfect blend of both. In the book TO SELL IS HUMAN, the author said “to sell is human but to write a book is not”. Similarly by God’s grace you all have plenty of books to read from the most prestigious authors, so I would try explaining it to you in a more layman’s way.

Lets start with why does customers behaviour towards you matter?

The first step in sales is not showing your product its selling yourself to the customer .Although it sounds

weird but it is true. If the customer trusts you, he is more likely to buy your product. For better understanding of generation X lets says you go out to a party in a pub; you see a girl sitting alone you go to her and talk. That’s selling yourself. Later, if that interest and trust is created you can sell your love or whatever. One more very important thing in the whole process is the way you call the customer. Many great sales people suggest that calling customer “Sir/Madam” continuously is handing over the power of the conversation to the customer. The question arises, than how? What is the favourite name of every customer? Some of you Google freaks would say Mohammed, that’s incorrect it’s the most common name. Favourite name of every customer is his or her own name. According to a theory it is suggested that the more you call a person’s name the more likely he is to listen to you or be more involved in your conversation.

After this stage, you have created a bond of trust between you and the customer - now is the time

when you have to get inside the head and make him think that he does need this product. How do you do that? It’s simple - you make the customer talk. Starts a conversation, casually understand what his likes are and what he doesn’t like. A Manchester United fan would always love to have a conversation about the last game; a business man would like to know about the current market scenario.

From a bought commodity you have moved into a stage where you are more of a friend. A friend with whom

he is having a casual conversation. You have made him move out of his defensive shell. He is far more relaxed towards your presence. Now is the time to put in your market research and questionnaire skills to test. You have already built a conversation with him, so the set of questions should also have a flow, unless you want to play “Kaun Banega Crorepati” with him. A question asking when you are planning to take our next service is far better than asking would you be taking our service. It has the same as asking which drink you want rather than asking would you like another drink.

From a stranger, you now know the habit of a customer as to what he likes, when he likes. Now is the time to give

a back hand compliment .Back hand compliment is a stage where the person is not really sure if it’s a compliment or an insult. Remember the girl at the pub - we will get back to her for example. She is into the conversation suddenly you tell her you got something in your teeth. She suddenly has lost the confidence she was having and you can now take over the conversation.

It is the time to put in Pankaj Sharmas words to use. Convince or confuse. What if the person is not interested even after this

stage. No worries, we have a plan B. Plan B is simple it’s about showing how good you are. It can be said that it’s a stage where you self praise. From being the only firm doing a certain activity to a CSR activity everything counts. Still a no from the customer, no worries the last nail in coffin are the monetary benefits. Discounts, EMI’s are our weapon of choice in most cases.

The 3rd stage end is more likely to convince the customer. But someone would still not be able to make a decision; here we

use a sales weapon known as follow-up. According to a study a person can only say no 7 times the 8th time he is more likely to say a yes.

Now just have a look again at the sales flow diagram. Yes, we have gone through all the stages suggested in the flow.

Only difference you would find in this and your books explanation is I have tried to put it in a more practical scenario. I am grateful to many people who not only taught me these theories but also made me understand how to use it in real life.

To sum it up I would say, a Sale is not just about talking. It’s about talking and making sense. He has to understand

the body language. Has to stand his ground if something goes wrong. And finally never lose that confidence and smile. In totality, he has to be JACK OF ALL TRADES.

My Life at NSB Sneha Sri DG

I joined the NSB family on my birthday,

In my mind a pathway of dreams lay,

A very memorable six months without doubt,

Too much to write about,

Friends I made many,

To have fun,Opportunities I did not miss any,

The orientation period was fun,

To look around places we were on a run,

My phone ran out of memory space,

Pictures we kept clicking in a very fast pace,

Academic sessions started,

I became part of the “JOBS” team,

Participated in Surabhi activities with full energy,

I started getting involved, Presentations , activities and more.

Inspite of being plump,Inspite of having a duck walk,

NSB accepted me as I am,

I walked the ramp for the first time,

I danced on the stage often,I learnt to be more responsible,

I realised I had no stage fear ever,

I learnt to differentiate between people cunning and clever,

I am learning to overcome my weaknesses,

The girl who was an emotional fool,

To being an emotionally strong person,

To speak up whenever required,

To speak up against injustice,

Life at NSB is a great experience,

Fun,Learning and unity is what one can sense,

Proud NSBian.

BNA REDEFINED MagazineUnderstanding Creativity in its true sense

page10

June / July 2011 Issue 01

It is a story of 4 friends in a team called ‘SENGE’.

Its 12 Noon sharp .Butterflies tickling in stomach. All 4 people sitting in 4 corners of the class. They looked at each other Just to make sure that everyone in the team felt the same, but then all four said each other ‘We will do it ! ‘ with a thumbs up. Yes , BNA REDEFINED was all about TEAM WORK. Like NSB , BNA also has few C’s they are Cohesion, Compassion, Co-ordination,Conceptual analysis,Communication,Creativity ,Confinement . If you have all these C’s then at the end add upon one more C, Congratulations, you win the game.

Yes, Begin with the end in mind, It starts with SELECTION OF TOPIC. In BNA redefined ‘No more marriages will hap-pen’ said the marketing guru Prof.SreeRanjan Menon i.e., no more merger and acquisition news. It’s all because of the intention to take BNA to next level. Macro issues were most welcomed. So these 4 friends decided to take a news on ‘Drop in oil prices, a windfall for Indian economy :IMF’ and got it approved by Menon Sir .

Second step is to sit and ANALYSE what the news is all about. A team can win only if the team members appreciate their differences. “Where to start ? What to begin ? Informa-tion in Internet is totally confusing “ said Divya , to tell about her she is full of questions ????? , tensed, hard worker, all she wants is to give the best out of her efforts .” Arey! Wait let me check . We can do it well Divya , do not worry, we are the best” said Deepti. Deepti is the best motivator in the team , all u can hear from her is ‘We ll definitely do it well’,optimist, she takes care of all the three kiddos in the team. She always resolves the conflict between Divya and Aswin. Aswin is a cool guy, smart worker, budding entrepreneur, good at camouflage , give him a topic, he can speak until you make him stop. When you hear ‘Yeah’ ‘ yeah

yeah yeah’ then be sure it’s Anil,The coolest guy of the team, confident, good thinker. All four from different places, different languages, different experiences, different thought processes but working for a common goal to prove what the team is actually made of. Second step came to an end with all acceptance and appreciation of differences in opin-ion, utilising the strength of the team members.

Then comes the fun part REHEARSAL. Practice, practice, practice, with all snacks around, browsing, explaining, fight-ing, understanding, rehearsing, adding points and taking self-ies without fail. The 4 stayed after college hours till college staff requested them to leave. Trust me ,SENGE team really had a fun time in BNA ,just because they enjoyed whatever they do. It was 12:15 PM . ‘All the best’ ‘All the best ‘ everywhere ,scaring these 4 as if they candidates of final interview of IAS. The trios entered the class. Piyali ma’am , SreeRanjan Sir and Srinidhi Sir. Heart rate just multipled. Divya was scribbling points in board while she felt her heart could stop in sometime.Deepti was OMG what am I going to talk ?. While cool guys,Aswin was getting ready wearing the blazer. Anil was just looking for points in slides.

Submission of rehearsal sheet and report was done.

All ready.Get ,set, go.

One of the trio’s who always insisted to see the unseen, said ‘Let’s begin’

T30(Thirty30)Thirty minutes on first day and thirty minutes on second day .Totally accounting to 60 minutes of game for 2 days. The beauty of this game is its unique rule. There is no chance for Match fixing. Imagine All batsmen standing in a line ready to bat. Umpires’ll select and tell which batsman to face which ball in which over. It’s upto the batsman to hit a six or make it a maiden over. One more happy news is the batsman will never know if he had hit a six or a no run until scores are released ,which are not instantaneous like cricket. But,here the umpires have lots of patience that they even remain silent till the end of the match ,even if you bat standing in boundaries(unfocused).

So it’s all about HARD WORK and HOPE .

The game went well and who ever remembered the rehearsed points jumped in ,to tell the class. They cheered themselves for a reasonably good perfor-mance in First half of T30 game.

Second half T30 had an unexpected twist for the 4,where one of the three Sri’s of NSB, President of the college Sridhara Murthy Sir joined their group to add up some points because he always believed in learning rather than scoring in BNA sessions. With unfinished presentation and unfulfilled dreams and expectations team SENGE stepped out of the Room 301 disap-pointed.

The team came up with all possible changes in slides and they had exclusive Part 3 of T30 ,Third30. They

explained the points well, still they lacked the energy.

BNA Redefined was defined in a way *To make students realize their potential,

*To help them identify if he/she is a good team player,*To experience the power of synergy,*To accept the difference within team members,*To resolve the conflict that arises,*To support each other in the team.*To substantiate what the team is made of in 60 min-utes.*To be crisp,

“It’s better to sweat in practice, rather than to bleed in war”.It’s the effort of management to make their students ready-made for corporate.Global Mindset TrailSo,now Let’s look at the team’s post-BNA discussion.

“ It’s all about learning “ Divya said. Aswin said “ Smile that it happened”. Anil was “Yeah ,I could have told this way . But somehow it’s over” and finally Deepti,”We did it well yaar, We all spoke well, We are the best”. All four smiled and had a hi-fi.

Suddenly Divya screamed,”Heyyyy people tomorrow we have HRM presentation. Aswin and Anil please do prepare and come”. Aswin and Anil just sighed and said “K”.Deepti said “Chal, kuchi bhi nai,We will do it yaar. We are the best”. End of the day, all they had is wonderful memories being in Team SENGE. That’s the happy end of the story.

This is Divya signing off happily as a part of Team SENGE,We have a fifth discipline

The freight ship visit at Tran-sworld logistics , Taught us all the supply chain semantics. Meals we had with the Top management , Brought us a lot of excitement. The list of industries goes on , UAE Exchange and Emirates NBD in the field of finance. We also had a lot of fun , Includes watching the belly dance. Experience on the sands , The “safari”, Arabic dinner in the desert was so breezy. The spectacular view of a bird’s eye , From the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa was as if we were in the sky.

GMT –This program has its own importance and I realized it only after my visit to a logistics company called Transworld logistics . The knowledge that I gained from visiting this company was beyond academics. This provided a clear insight of how a logistic company functions, the new technologies that is used in logistics and how they use the strategic location of the city for making money. We also visited UAE exchange and Emirates NBD , the former be-ing a foreign exchange firm and the latter provides banking services to U.A.E citizens. By visiting these two different industries , I got to know to how these two companies differentiates itself from the competitors by rendering qual-ity services to its cusomers. Apart from these industries ,I got a chance to visit Supertech Solutions pvt.Ltd., Manipal University, Gerab solutions. These industrial visits are essential for any management graduates as it will give an insight regarding the internal functioning of companies. This GMT gave me an opportunity to know more about the industrial environment through interaction with the top executives of various industries .

We stayed for 6 days at Dubai. The first day at Dubai started with local sight seeing of miracle garden and ended with Dhow cruise dinner. We enjoyed the dinner admiring the beauty and the lights of Dubai. It was a novel experience. Imagine yourself dining at Dhow cruise admiring the colorful lights of Dubai with music being played and your favorite dinner being served for you. Exciting !!! isn’t it?. The excitement doesn’t stop here. It continued till the last day. We then went for city tour where we got to visit Dubai museum, Gold Souk, Jumeirah Beach, Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa and Desert Safari.

I would like to end by saying a great thank you to Mr. Srid-hara Murthy and Mr.Nagaraj on behalf all the students who were a part of GMT. This has been a great learning experi-ence which will help us to understand the various standards and practices that are followed in the different types of indus-tries. As the tagline of NSB – Makes you more valuable , this GMT program has definitely added value to all the students who were a part of this program. Lastly, a big thank you to all the teaching and the non- teaching staffs of NSB who have supported and made this GMT happen at glitzy Dubai.

Trip was both educational as well as entertaining...... #enjoyed

ABU DHABI TRIP: This was on the 6th day (last day in soil of U.A.E). Abu Dhabi is as exciting as Dubai is. We were taken to Ferrari world , IKEA, Palace and to Al wahda mall.

IKEA: A crockery and furniture industry which is known for its packaging , packs the fur-niture to anyl toy in small box. This is one of the places that a management graduate must visit in order to learn the various techniques that used by this industry which is dif-ferentiates it from other industries. This industry has the most beautiful crockery items and the furniture items I had ever seen.

Global Mindset Trail at Dazzling Dubai

BURJ KHALIFA: How would anyone comeback from Dubai without visiting the tallest build-ing of the world ?. I would say it is the pride of the city Dubai. We were taken to 124th floor of this tallest building where we could enjoy the entire view of Dubai city from 124th floor. I was awe struck when I looked down from the 124th floor. This is one of the best experiences of this GMT tour!

DESERT SAFARI: This was a wonderful experience. One cannot afford to miss this when one is at Dubai. Dune bashing is one of the exhilarating parts of the entire desert safari. Apart from this lot of other activities like sand boarding, camel riding, belly dancing and quad biking were available. There was also a camp ar-ranged where they served us with Arabic food .Overall, I would rate this as a memorable safari.

FERRARI WORLD : As you read Ferrari what comes to your mind………….”FAST”. At this place they offer various adventure sports and also what not? You can drive a Ferrari. It’s a place of must visit if you are true lover of Ferrari.

EMIRATES PALACE: One feels like a princess when you enter this luxury hotel. Be it the

elevators , the furniture’s, the carpet , the jewellery that is displayed, each and every little object speaks for its grandeur. This hotel

showcases the Arabic culture exceeds one’s expectations. Surely this is a once in a life time experience.

DUBAI One of the seven emirates that make up U.A.E. Dubai has, in the

recent times attracted attention of tourists because of its innovation in

construction of skyscrapers and tall buildings . Apart from its cultural heritage

and tourist spots, Dubai is also famous for its glamorous shopping mall. When

National school of Business gave me an opportunity to visit and explore Dubai for global

mindset trail I jumped in. Eight members including me were fortunate enough to visit Dubai

for GMT program.

JUMEIRAH BEACH: A white sand beach where Jumeirah hotel is located on the artificially created island . Though we did not get a chance to visit the hotel, it stands tall on the artificially created island. For all those nature lovers , this place is one of the best place where you get to breathe the fresh air and enjoy the breezy climate. This is also one of the good places for clicking pictures.

DUBAI MUSEUM- One the oldest museum (I was told) of Dubai which displays the artifacts and antiquities. This mu-

seum would help us understand the cultural heritage of the local city . The galleries display a variety of paintings , statues and traditional

practices that was followed by the localities in the ancient times.

DUBAI MALL:Anything and everything at Dubai is tall and magnificent. Unlike Burj Khalifa being the pride of Dubai, this mall which is the second largest mall in

the world is known as the home of Dubai shopping festival. If you think you can visit Dubai mall for a day, then you are wrong. It takes atleast 2 days for you to go around the mall. But

mind you, this mall is only for brands. But to know the latest fashion trends to latest liquor that are new to the market, you will have to visit this mall. available in this mall.

Student Exchange ProgramESC-PAU, France

ESC-Pau, founded in 1969, is ranked No. 1 in France among all B-Schools

for its international network and 14th overall. The exchange program offers students a multicultural experience

The clock struck 1 and it was 1st April. All excited and all set, bags packed, six of us with our President Dr. Sridhara Murthy to ESC-PAU. A memorable journey much awaited. A proud mo-ment to represent NSB. All set, seat belts tightened to fly high to get into a new multicultural environ-ment.We landed on April 2nd the cool breeze, the fog, the freeze chills made us realise that we are at Paris. It was time for us to reach PAU, to meet our new friends. It is said that you have to help others with a smile. When we landed here the administrative staff greeted us with a huge smile and helped us in settling down. The administration staff was very cooperative and helped us in set-tling in the dorms at ESC-Pau.

Classes began on 4th April 2016. We had a huge International exposure from students with different countries like the French, Philippines, Mexico, Brazil,

Korea etc. We were very used to our culture. The moment we stepped out of our comfort zone, we were faced a huge variety of culture through-out the world. It was a bit odd for us, but we had to adapt to the situation. The culture here is very open and direct. People here are involved with what they do, they would offer their help only if they are asked to help. In general, people here are very humble, down to earth and very generous. There are different communities with a vast diversity here.It was a great pleasure to be at the ESC- PAU. The classes are totally dif-ferent from that of the Indian teaching

methods.

The places to visit in and around PAU are the Pyranees, Pau castle which is the birthplace of King Henri IV and the other cities around as well. We had a great time getting along with each other. Cooking together has been great fun. There are six different interesting courses to study in this multicultural environment. The subjects are Global Strategy, International Marketing, organisational

Behaviour, Global Economics, Cus-tomer Integration and Operational and Services Management. Each subject has its own different way of approach and the teaching is dif-ferent when compared to the way we learned earlier. The weekend was great, we could visit the city centreIt was fun to learn the French culture at PAU

i All in all so far…so good. It’s still the week one of the eight, its been great being here and looking forward for more

A Peasant's DreamSujay Kumar Yadav

When I take my feet on a farm’s lane,

My eyes fall on green plants.

Dreaming to serve the world.

Growing variety of crops by sweating and drying my blood.

By the beginning of Asadhe month (June),

I, a farmer, come out carrying plough, mattockand oxes along with.

Singing Asadhe song, spending the days with workers

And taking bath under the rain.

To produce masses from a tiny seed,

Drenching myself under the drizzle and rain,

To save the entire world.

My heart filled with delight and dreams,

For the prosperity of my family, neighbour, country and the world,

When it's raining outside.

BreakupCharan

Seconds have left, your words with me

Hours have left, your thoughts with me

Days have left, your memories with me

Months have left, your habits with me

Seasons have left, your heart with me

Years have left, but everywhere you are with me

Breakup is only for humans, not for hearts...

"LIFE IS..."Adapted from iFamily Friend Poems”

Bipin Kumar Das

Life is confusing, for all of us, no matter how small or big, we all have rough times.

Life is Expressed, expressed in different ways, for all of us, that give us different emotions.

Life is Stupid, 'Cause when things get harder, we blame and take out anger on the ones we love most.

Most of all Life makes us regret, 'Cause we make the people who loves us the most, hate us at the end.

But Life is also amazing and surprising, we meet life-long friends and enemies who later become friends.

Don't be hate'n on yourself, 'Cause the more you hate yourself, the more people hate you!

Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983.

From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: "Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"?

To this Arthur Ashe replied:

"The world over -- 50 million children start playing tennis, 5 million learn to play tennis,

500,000 learn professional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the Grand Slam,

50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals,

when I was holding a cup I never asked GOD 'Why me?'.

And today in pain I should not be asking GOD 'Why me?' "

" Happiness keeps you Sweet,

Trials keep you Strong,

Sorrow keeps you Human,

Failure keeps you humble and Success keeps you glowing, but only Faith and Attitude Keeps you going”...

Once a student asks his teacher - What is soul?

The teacher then decided to tell him a story which he heard long ago from his own teacher.

It is said that there are 3 'I' in humans which support and guide him throughout his life. The first 'I' is coldest. It is seen by every surrounding around a person. The second 'I' is warmest and it is seen only by the closest to the person. There is always fights and arguments between these two I's to get power over the person. Their continuous discord awakens the doubt and fear in us. Only the third 'I' can reconcile and make compromise between the first two. No one can see it. Sometimes we are unaware of its existence but it is always with us.

I have never heard of it - the student said.

Then the teacher smiled and answered :-

The first 'I' is - Mind. If it wins, we become cold and calculative. The second 'I' is - Heart. If it wins, we become naive and then it is easy to hurt and deceive us. The third 'I' is - Soul. Only it can restore the balance in human life.

Everything goes in vain,

Anything we try

Goes in vain….

Rivers go dry

Almost how much we cry

To save this beautiful earth

From its terrible terrain

As everything goes in vain..

Plants and trees are gone

Pollution gets on..

Poor and weak species die

Habitats gets destroyed

Only we remain to cry..

AS everything goes in vain………

On one hand rivers dry,

And on the other side,

The frozen melts up

Surely water level will rise up

Neither the sweet tiger’s cub

Nor the cute penguins remain

As everything goes in vain………

Even if many steps are taken

No doubt how much we take precaution

There will be no decrease in,

The fast ozone depletion…..

No matter,

God has given us a very

Beautiful creation..

And no doubt

We humans have created the pollution

Whatever we try, fails in a mist..

We tried not to create more mess

But just can’t resist..

Icy islands turn green

And the green turns dry,

Cool places become hot

Hot turns even hotter…

No rain

No crops

Yes to draughts....

The weather first had,

Seven seasons

But we have only seen

One to two the whole year…

Last but not the least,

All the beautiful creation we have seen now and before,

Later it will be none,

As everything goes in vain…..

Everything goes in vain

MemoriesJincy Sarah George

Memories will never fade in my mind,

Though days pass like falling leaves

The clinging nostalgia gives place to reality

All the loved ones are not around!

Some have gone to the world beyond

Others continue their struggle elsewhere;

Sighs escape the lips that smiled

With faltering steps the race is resumed.

I miss the laughter and tears of yesterday

When all were together laughed and cried.

For us the sun shone the moon and stars

We shared our things and thoughts!

There were discordant notes, no doubt,

But they were fatigued not formented?

For good sense prevailed undelayed

There was always a sense of belonging!

A few among us had the going better

They ran the race and won the crown;

A few found the going tough in the prime

But there was no widening gulf between!

There are new faces around, but wary,

Their smile is cosmetic and hesitant;

To welcome strangers in their midst-

And leaves me hugging my memories!

When the sky is generously bestowed,

With twinkling little orbs winking down;

I try to read the message of those loved

Departed hence for the heaven above!

It was 14th of March, 2016, a bright and busy Monday in Bangalore, when a group of three from “National School of Business”; went to, “National Law School of India University” for a workshop on, “Inter-net Security.” This amazing venture team consisted of, Miss. Ritika Sharma, Mr. Priyam Das and Mr. Nikhil Sunil Kamble; three stalwarts of NSB.

A Pan-India workshop on, “Internet Security” by the Public Policy and Government Relations Analyst at Google,“Mr. Piyush Poddar”; which was hosted by Mrs. Pratima Narayan, a well know faculty at National Law School of India University and at National School of Business. The Chief Guest of the workshop was, Dr. Kalpana Gopalan, IAS to Karnataka Government and the Guest of Honor, Mr. Hemant Upadhyay, Advisor IT and Telecom to a NGO, “Consumer Voice.”This workshop was conducted at a Law School, by people from Law Field, and all the participants were from Law Background, however, we three were from Management Background, standing tall amongst all those law and legislature personalities.

After the workshop was inaugurated and set in pace, Mrs. Pratima; began with a presentation on basics of internet security and some basic facts about internet and it’s users and what we discover, there are six million new users every month who join the internet and in the context of safety we just have to take some simple steps to make ourselves secure over the net. Few basic steps like keeping unique passwords, having updated systems, having an anti-virus, etc. And even how to keep your hand-held devices connected to your personal computers or laptop to keep each other safe and in one’s reach.

Then came the Question and Answer session, where Mr. Piyush stepped in to face all those bullets like question from everyone. Questions of all sorts were fired at him, but like an efficient player he handled them with grace. A question was put forth by Mr. Nikhil about keeping, “Anagrams” of one’s name as password; along with the suggestion, even a question was fired about android’s open ecosystem and its safety, and the answer which was received was more than satisfying. When two experts from finance back-ground ask questions about internet and it’s safety, mark my words they just leave everyone spell bound with their wit. Priyam, being a banker asked about safety and security of online transaction and money transfer. Next, , Ritika asked the question about the incognito mode of Google Chrome.

With the question and answer round getting over, even the workshop was wound up along with, we received a certificate from Google stating that we successfully completed the workshop. That proud moment for those stal-warts. Just amazing.Never underestimate the students from Management background and specially students from National School of Business.

Technology - Boon or Bane?Chavan Anjali

I had a terrible nightmare the one night. Instead of meeting for a quick cup of coffee, my friend and I spent 30 minutes texting back and forth about our day. After that, instead of going in to talk to my professor during his office hours, I emailed him from home with my question. Because of this, he never got to know who I was. I ignored a cute guy at the bus stop asking me the time because I was busy responding to a text. And I spent far too much time on Facebook trying to catch up with my 1000+ ifriends,” most of whom I rarely see.

Oh wait, that wasn’t a dream. This technological detachment is becoming today’s reality.

Little by little, Internet and mobile technology seems to be slowly destroying the meaningfulness of interactions we have with others, disconnecting us from the world around us, and leading to a forthcoming sense of separation in today’s society. Instead of spending time in person with friends, we just call, text or instant message them. It may seem simpler, but we ultimately end up seeing our friends face to face a lot less. Ten texts can’t even begin to equal an hour spent chatting with a friend over lunch. And a smiley-face emoticon is cute, but it could never replace the loud laugh and smiling eyes of one of your best friends. Face time is important, people. We need to see each other.

This doesn’t just apply to our friends; it applies to the world around us. It should come as no surprise that face-to-face interaction is proven by studies to comfort us and provide us with some important sense of well-being, whether it’s with friends or friendly society. There’s something intangibly real and valuable about talking with someone face to face. This is significant for friends, partners, potential employers, and other recurring people that make up your everyday world. That person becomes an important existing human connection, not just someone whose text voice pops up on your cell phone, iPad or computer screen.

It seems we have more extended connections than ever in this digital world, which can be great for networking, if it’s used right. The sad fact of the matter is that most of us don’t.

One of my best friends from my hometown has 2,241 Facebook friends. Sure, her posts get a ton of feedback, but when I asked her about the quality of those relationships, she said to me that she really has few friends that she can trust and spend time with happily. While technology has allowed us some means of social connection that would have never been possible before, and has allowed us to maintain long-distance friendships that would have otherwise probably fallen by the wayside, the fact remains that it is causing ourselves to spread ourselves too thin, as well as slowly ruining the quality of social interaction that we all need as human beings.

So what are we doing with 3000 friends on the Internet? Why are we texting all the time? Seems like a big waste of time to me. Let’s spend more time together with our friends. Let’s make the relationships that count last, and not rely on technology to do the job for us.

Paradigm Shift In ManagementRichie Sarah John

MagazineUnderstanding Creativity in its true sense

page24

June / July 2011 Issue 01

The Management Studies have flour-ished exceedingly in the past few de-cades, even though management in itself existed from the dawn of hu-man race. A number of researches and studies have aided its evolution.

Management has changed a lot in comparison to the earlier days. As quoted by Heraclitus – “Change is the only constant”, everything on Earth keeps changing with time; and the management studies are no excep-tion to this rule. It underwent a con-tinuous change, and today, we can see almost a complete paradigm shift in the way management is done.

The corporate, once used to have Ad-ministrators, who just administered on how well the job is being done. Later, the organisations changed from ad-ministrators to Managers. The man-agers gave the orders and monitored the subordinates. Now, the need is for Leaders, who would not only monitor the subordinates, but also, mentor them and motivate them to perform better.

From the era of Scientific Manage-ment, when focus was mainly on

achieving higher productivity, which was accomplished by giving incen-tives to the workers with better pro-ductivity; the focus is now on Human Resource Management. The incen-

tives given to motivate the employees today, to perform better, are not only in the form of monetary benefits but also in the form of recreational pack-ages or better learning opportunities.

Organisations today, believe in helping the employees achieve their personal goals along with the organisational goals. Workers are no more treated as machines to make profits, instead

are treated as assets of the organisation. The concept of ‘Servant-Leadership’ is on rise now-a-days. Though this concept has been in existence from the biblical times, yet it has gained acknowledgement only in the recent times. According to this concept, the managers/leaders need to place the interests of their followers before their own.

They must always be ready to help, support, coach, mentor and serve their subordinates/fol-lowers. This approach en-courages collaboration, trust, foresight, listening

and ethical use of power and em-powerment, as a way of improving the work culture of the organisation. Marketing Management has shifted

from ‘profit-first’ marketing to ‘planet-first’ marketing, which is termed as So-cietal Marketing. This is the new mar-keting mantra. As per this approach, every firm has to think about the effect that its actions will have on the Planet first, People second and finally it’s Prof-its. It encourages, the meeting of cus-tomer’s needs and wants, effectively and efficiently, in a way that preserves or enhances the customer’s and the society’s well being. It is closely linked to Corporate Social Responsibility.

Corporate Social Responsibilities are the activities performed by an organisation, which brings about social good beyond its corporate interests. It engages to bring about the impact on the environment, which in turn will help the organisation for creating positive public image.

Increasing scams in the recent past, have paved way for the concept of Corporate Governance. Previously, the aim of any firm was to make profits – by hook or crook. Now, the aim is to hold a balance between ethics and economic profits. It encourages, to align the interest of the firm’s stakeholders along with its own.

Along with financial and manage-

ment audit, even Social Audit is done

in most of the firms. This helps to nar-

row the gap between vision and re-

ality, in terms of social performance.

Since most organisations today have

international presence, it is important

for the management to be culturally

sensitive also. There is a need to ap-

preciate and accept diverse cultures, in

order to survive in the global market.

As everything changes/evolves with

time, even the concepts and approach-

es used in management had kept and

will keep evolving, as per the need of

the hour. The mindset that we have,

regarding management today will also

change in the due course of time, to

create a new paradigm shift altogether.

Dosawala An Inspirational Story

Not everyone who’s on top today got there with success after success. More often than not, those who history best remembers were faced with numerous obstacles that forced them to work harder and show more determination than others. Next time you’re feeling down about your failures in college or in a career, keep the famous people in mind and remind yourself that sometimes failure is just the first step towards success.Prem Ganapathy – The DosawalaPrem Ganapathy, was stranded at the Bandra station, when the person accompanying him left him and ran away. Prem had no local acquaintances or knowledge of the language. Out of pity, a fellow Tamilian guided him to a temple and appealed worshipers to contribute money for his return ticket to Chen-nai.Prem refused to go back and decided to work in Mumbai and started cleaning utensils in a restaurant. He appealed to his owner, to let him become a waiter as he was class 10 pass. The owner refused, because of regional politics and Prem bided his time till a neighborhood dosa restaurant opened and offered him a job from a dishwasher to a tea boy.Prem became a huge hit with the customers because of his excellent customer service, initiatives and relationship and brought business Rs. 1000 daily which was almost 3 times as compared to other tea boys. The life was good.A customer made him an offer. He was planning to open a tea shop in Vashi in Mumbai. He wanted Prem to be his 50 – 50 partner where the owner would invest the money while Prem would run the shop. The shop started doing brisk business when the owner became greedy. It hurt him to share 50 % of the profit with Prem and he threw Prem out replacing him with an employee.Prem was made of a different material and he was never going to be defeated. He took a small loan from his uncle and with his brother, opened his own tea stall. Unfortunately the neighbourhood residents objected. He then started a hand cart but that also did not work out. He found a spot and set up a south Indian stall. He did not know a thing about dosas

and idli but learnt by observation, trial and error. The dosa stall was a huge hit and flourished during the 5 years from 1992-1997. But why was the tiny dosa stall was so success-ful in spite of competition from ubiquitous eateries prevalent in Mumbai. According to Prem it was its hygiene, proper ap-pearances of the waiters and fresh ingredients which stood out as a difference. He saved a couple of lakhs of Rupees and instead of head-ing home he took the biggest risk of his life and opened a new shop near Vashi station and named it as Dosa Plaza. His Chinese plaza next to the Dosa Plaza flopped miserably and was shut down in 3 months. Undaunted, Prem realized some lessons from it. He applied those lessons in making Chinese cuisine in his dosas which worked very well.He got passionate and invented a variety of dosas with Chi-nese style like American Chopsuey, Schezwan Dosa, Paneer chilly, Spring roll dosa etc. The 108 types of Dosas in his menu gets him a lot of publicity.A chance encounter with a customer who was part of the team setting up a food court in a mall in New Bombay advised him to take a stall at the food court and again Prem was ready and willing to grow and expand. His vision was to grow by better offerings and better customer service. He also went to ad agencies to create the brand identity including the logo, brands, menu card, wait-ers dress etc.He started getting a lot of offers for franchising and had to find out the meaning of franchising and its modus operandi. Dosa Plaza currently has 26 outlets and 5 of them are company owned. It has 150 employees and a turnover of 5 crore. All the branches are connected and networked and there are training managers and proper manuals to maintain standard and uniform product and services.Merit is the only criteria; all the employees regardless of the caste or region are treated equally. They are loyal and have grown with the company. The original team of cooks which was the part of the first Dosa venture is still with Prem. Cur-rently he is also getting enquiries from US and Europe for franchisees.

Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah- Prof. Sreeranjan Menon

This magnificent dictum from the Hindu scriptures, occur in the fifteenth verse of the eight chapter of Manu Smriti. I do believe that there is no adequate translation of the word Dharma into English language in its full essence, vigour and vitality. The Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary gives the following meaning for the Sanskrit word – Dharma as Custom or law regarded as duty. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Dharma is more than that.

The basic principle of cosmic and individual existence is Dharma. Conformity to one’s duty and nature is Dharma. The omnipresent status for the stability of society is Dharma. The system of well furbished maintenance of social order is Dharma. That from which results true happiness is Dharma. The basis for securing and preserving power over the Earth is Dharma. Ancient sages proclaimed that the fundamental basis of life on earth itself is Dharma.

Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah translates to Dharma protects those who protect it. Who shelters and defends Dharma will be given shelter and will be defended by Dharma. If we protect Dharma, Dharma will protect us. The one not following Dharma is destroyed while the one following it meticulously is protected.

What a great motto this is for India’s premier agency which protects the sovereignty, the social order and the stability of our country. What an apt motto this is for India’s external intelligence agency – The Research & Analysis Wing. What an ideal motto this is for India’s most coveted, most specialized and the most fearsome Intelligence apparatus of our country R &AW.

The fascinating world of Intelligence and espionage has enticed and perplexed

me from a long time. In the last edition of Initium I made a humble attempt to put forth few enticing aspects of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). The column was titled Jagritam Aharnisham.

As a student and an avid reader on Intelligence, Counter Intelligence and Tradecraft this is a very humble attempt to put forth few enticing aspects of the India’s external Intelligence agency the R&AW as a sequel to my previous endeavour in Initium 2015.

Intelligence - An Introduction

Intelligence apparatus is an integral part of statecraft and governance. In the crudest sense it’s the insatiable urge to ferret out what is cooked in a neighbour’s pot and what happens below their quilt. Intelligence as an attribute of man’s evolution through the process of selection has become synonymous with his quest for knowledge and information.

Kautilya’s Arthashastra had well defined Intelligence activities a century before Chinese General Sun Tzu’s ‘The Art Of War’. Sun Tzu opines that Foreknowledge was “the reason the enlightened prince and the wise General conquer the enemy whenever they move”. Intelligence deals with all the things which should be known in advance of initiating a course of action.

Kautilya have made summations of intelligence as concept and its tradecraft in chapters eleven to sixteen of Arthashastra. Starting from appointment of persons in secret service, creation of establishment of spies, the Arthashastra enumerated and detailed almost all aspects of intelligence gathering and reporting as

an integral part of war and peace.

Intelligence infrastructure has become synonymous with diplomacy, law & order, stability and welfare of the governed and governing people. Intelligence is the most powerful bridge between war and peace. Intelligence fraternity can carry out wars through peaceful means, it can wage wars through low intensity attrition and it can play havoc through sabotage and subversion. It can seek out the fault lines of the enemy and cause tectonic explosions under his feet.

Formation Of R&AW

After the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri, Mrs. Indira Gandhi became the Prime Minister of India in early 1966. In 1968, she decided to from a separate external intelligence agency based on the CIA of USA, MI6 of Britain. She selected R.N Kao for this job who was joint Director in the IB. She wanted a loyal man of known integrity. Kao prepared a blueprint of the agency based on detailed studies of CIA & MI6.

R&AW was created on September 21, 1968 with a skeleton staff of 250 taken from the Intelligence Bureau (IB). R&AW started firing on all cylinders within one year. In the new outfit Kao introduced many new divisions based on his studies of various international intelligence agencies.

Economic Intelligence was a distant idea of that era because there was no such concept in the erstwhile IB. This division was then created to monitor various economic developments in the neighbouring countries which could affect the Indian interests particularly in the fields of defence, security, Science & Technology. Information Division, Code breaking branch, Satellite Monitoring Division were also the new chapters opened in R&AW. R. N Kao created NSG, National Security Guards in 1982.

Rameshwar Nath Kao & K. Shankaran Nair

‘‘A foreign intelligence agency is the eyes and ears of the government. Its activities are the direct resultant of the policies of the government, without which any government would be left in a state of limbo’’ — Rameshwar Nath Kao, The First R&AW Chief

Rameshwar Nath Kao

R N Kao , the legendary spy master of India and the first chief of the external intelligence agency the R&AWwas born in a Kashmiri Pandit family on May 10, 1918 at Varanasi. His father was a Deputy Collector in the UP Civil Service. Kao completed his graduation from Lucknow University in 1936. He then took admission for M.A in English Literature at Allahabad University. He was the Gold medallist in that batch. For a short stint he served as a Lecturer at Allahabad University. He qualified in the Federal public Commission in 1940 for the Indian Police Service was allotted UP Cadre. He joined the service on April 7, 1940 at Moradabad.

After Independence, Intelligence Bureau (IB) was set up with some police officers taken on deputation from various States and he joined IB in 1948 as Assistant Director in charge of security and was posted

as the Personal Security Officer of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. There are many instances of sheer tact and brilliance which was displayed by this legendary officer which has no parallels in the history of Intelligence and National Security of India. Kao had build up R&AW into a professional intelligence organization and made it play a key role to change the strategic face of the Indian Subcontinent within a span of three years of R&AWs formation.

Kwame Nkrumah, the Prime Minister of Ghana was a close friend of the Indian PM, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Nkrumah sought help from Nehru to set up his Intelligence/security organization in Ghana since it became independent from the colonial rule and was confronting serious internal and external problems. R N Kao was selected for this assignment by Nehru and within a short span of one year he not only formed the security structure of Ghana but also groomed two officers of Ghana to head it in the coming future. Nkrumah wanted Kao to continue this job for another year but Kao declined and returned to India and promised to send another brilliant officer in his place. K Sankaran Nair yet another diligent and dynamic officer was sent to Ghana to complete the work of Kao.

K Sankaran Nair

K Sankaran Nair, yet another tall figure in R&AW hailed from Ottapalam a small town in Palghat in Kerala. He was the shadow of the agency’s founder R N Kao. K Shankaran Nair was part of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and was later inducted into Research & Analysis Wing in 1968 as the deputy to Rameshwar Nath Kao. K Shankaran Nair was an intimidating figure in R&AW. He was a perfect picture of assertion and dominance.

Kao set up the structure, followed

by K. Sankaran Nair who made it fully operational. It was possibly from a long list of names coined by DS Joshi, then Cabinet Secretary, that the title ‘‘Research and Analysis Wing’’ was selected. K Shankaran Nair is credited with the success of the 1971 Bangladesh war. Under his leadership, RAW helped the guerrilla fighters troupe Mukti Bahini and trained them.

Liberation Of Bangladesh

When Pakistan army started its brutality in East Pakistan in March 1971, millions of refugees thronged India and caused several major problems for India. When Indira Gandhi could not find a political solution to sort out this grievous situation, she asked the then Army chief General Sam Manekshaw to get the Indian army ready for the liberation of Bangladesh who sought six month’s time for preparation.

Kao was asked by Indira Gandhi to prepare ground work for the army before the final assault and use R&AW to its optimum in this operation. Kao with his able colleagues, build up a formidable guerrilla force (Mukti Bahini) of more than one Lakh Bangladeshi refugees. Besides that R&AW penetrated deep into all the establishment of East & West Pakistan and when the Indian Army went for the final war on December 3, 1971; 93,000 soldiers of Pakistan army were hauled up in Dacca and made to surrender to the Indian army before Lt. General J S Aurora on December 16, 1971. i.e is within two weeks of the start of army action. This was the biggest and historical landmark for R&AW under R N Kao in the intelligence history of India.

Initium 2k16 - 2016 Edition

The Bangladesh Operation possibly began a year before the actual military operation was underway. Even when the world did get a whiff of it in the shape of the Mukti Bahini, many remained unaware of RAW’s involvement. By then Phase I of the operation was already completed. Phase II saw the Indian Armed Forces poised for the liberation of Bangladesh. RAW, along with the Mukti Bahini, when they developed into a formidable force, provided information to the Indian forces.

Information collected by an IB foreign desk operative in London from a Pakistani diplomat indicated that the West Pakistanis were contemplating action against Bengali Muslims in Pakistan. By 1968 Indian operatives had already been in contact with the ‘‘pro-Mujib’’ faction. A meeting convened in Agartala during 1962-63, between the IB foreign desk operatives and the Mujib faction indicated to ‘‘Colonel’’ Menon (which in fact was Sankaran Nair’s operational or code name). ‘‘Colonel Menon’’ had warned them that in his opinion it was far too early for them to take any positive action.

RAW sources in Karachi had indicated a movement of troops from Karachi harbour for Dacca. On March 3, a message sent out from Dacca to Calcutta by a RAW operative indicated that a major crackdown was imminent.

As the report found its way to New Delhi, an urgent message was flashed — ‘‘…advise Menon…’ to bring in … our friends.’ Towards the end of April the genocide continued and drove 9.8 million into exile to India. The March 1969 RAW report had already spelt out the possibility of Pakistan resorting to a war with India. By the end of May, another RAW assessment sent to the Prime Minister spelt out the need of a ‘‘surgical intervention’’. RAW received the green signal and began mobilising its resources. The Mukti Fauj was known as the Mukti Bahini two months after its formation on the night of March 25, 1971.

Conclusion

Research & Analysis Wing is one of the most formidable pillars of India. It never ceases to grow. Like all other intelligence agencies across the world it has had the best of times and it has had the worst of times. It has had spells of glory and it has had its spells of utter failure.

An emerging power such as India, which is aspiring to take its place by 2020 among the leading powers of the world, has to have an external intelligence agency which has the ability to see, hear, smell and feel far and near.

An agency which can operate imaginatively and daringly.

An agency which can analyse lucidly, anticipate unfailingly and manage crises effectively.

An agency, which can tell the truth as it needs to be told without worrying about the consequences.

An agency which protect the social, economic and political edifice of our country.

An agency which proclaims, abide and live by the motto – Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah.

An agency named Research & Analysis Wing, R&AW.

Yes- Maneesha Pankaj

I’M A 90’S KID

My childhood was in 90’s. It is the most nostalgic and precious decade of my life.

We are the one who witnessed the growth of India parallel to our own growth. I would have been playing when liberalization, privatization and globalization was introduced in Indian economy and I was really lucky to be a part of India’s paradigm shift and to witness rise of the technology here. Yes, I’m a 90’s kid.

I still remember the day TV bought and brought to my home. I was just 5 or 6. Connecting TV, changing the position of antenna; all were having fun and it was like a festival. Ours was the first time house to buy a TV in that locale. I, many a times felt very proud for that. When our neighbors come to watch programs, I sit like a princess in centre of the crowd though I don’t understand those programs much. I was a big fan of cartoons like Mowgli and all ad films that time. Doordarshan, radio and tape recorders were the synonyms of entertainment at that time. I still remember the jingles all those ads like Nirma, Hamara Bajaj and those are really close to my heart.

Still years passed to get a telephone connection in my home. We used to use neighbors telephone for incoming calls and in case of emergency. That time almost all junctions had Std Isd telephone booths which had become a memory now. That time I used to write a lot of letters to my relatives who used to stay far from our native. I had a pen

friend at that time whose address I got from newspaper supplement. We used to write about our hobbies, books we read and all. I used to read newspaper regularly unlike now.

I used to have lots and lots of time to play with my friends and neighbors and to spend on my own and that is when I used to read. May be that’s how reading became part and parcel of my life. We, me and my cousin had a videogame kit with Mario which is the only game I remember so far.

Chocolates were reasonable compared to now, even 10paise toffees were available. With 2rupee we used to get Parle Kismi Bar which is one of my favorites even now. Boomer and big babbol, we used to compete to make big bubbles out of it. Orange candy was ever time favorite and nostalgic.

I felt very much that in those days we had better social life and connectivity with people around us than what we have now where people don’t even know who are their neighbors still they can contact people stays beyond earth with social media networks and things like skype, facebook , whatsapp etc.

I used to play out with soil, plants and pets like kittens unlike today’s children who play indoor video games and chatting. I used to plant trees and help my parents in gardening and to make kitchen garden where now we prefer readymade garden instead. Family used to get a lot of productive time to spend and take care of each other in those days where today’s

generation is spending that much time on internet surfing and things.

Internet wasn’t an option for us to go deep into any subject or topic given. So reading, observing, analyzing using our brain was the only option left. We never used to get readymade models of things as of now, which in a way ended in creating our own models using waste materials or scrap and contributed a lot in my creativity.

I’m a 90’s kid who got an opportunity to play goli then and 3D computer games now, who got an opportunity to write letters then and send instant messages through message apps now, who waited and collected audio cassettes of favorite movie songs then and download favorites songs through internet now, who got opportunity to write in slates with slate pencils, books with Nataraj pencils and hero pens then and to touch and type in mobiles and computers using keyboards now.

I spent my childhood during world’s beautiful lady Princess Diana lived, when Jurassic park movie got released, when Sachin hit his first century against Australia in ODI match, Rajiv Gandhi got assassinated, Veerappan announced as national threat, AR Rahman started composing melodious romantic songs, Aiswarya Rai and Susmitha Sen grabbed miss World and miss Universe respectively.

Yes I’m a 90’s Kid and I proud to be one!

I had a beautiful experience in my life, which has changed my life completely. This incident happened during my eight standard Christmas vacation. That was a fine morning during my Christmas vacation. As usual on that day also, with my father I went to Ice plant. My family owns and operates a small Ice plant. I usually go there with my father, I love the cracking sound during the production of ice. Big pieces of ices are produced, which are in turn used for storing seafood. My father and his brother work there. Whenever I walk with my father, he usually talks to me about two things; one is communism and second is football.

My mom’s house is located near to the temple. My uncle is a priest in that temple. See the duality, father is a communist and my mom belongs to a family of tradition. My mom taught me to be a good human being, mom told me to never hurt anyone in my life. My father is a hero for me because he taught me to lead a balanced life rather than being good. My father was so sad when I came to my home with a wounded leg after a football match. He was sad not because my legs were injured but because I didn’t break the legs of the boy who injured me. Every night, having a little beer, he talks to me about the beauty of life. He told me that life is short and beautiful. If you don’t enjoy your life you become a big fool.

See, I was deviating all of you from the beautiful incident happened in my life and you all get deviated.

This incident happened on December 26, 2004. I got a call from one of my friends, when I was sitting in the Ice plant hearing the cracking sound of ice. When I took the call

he asked me where I was. He said, iMithun, please tell your father to close the ice plant. You both please go back to your home as soon as possible. He said giant wave, giant wave”. Actually, I didn’t understand what was happening around. When my father and I came home we both got a clear picture of what was happening around us. The tsunami which was started in Indonesia was going to wash out the coastal areas of God’s own country.

When we all did not know what to do in that point of time, police came to our home and said that you all have to leave the house within half an hour. Your home is going to wash out within few hours. Without hearing completely, I put my shoes on and I was ready for a hundred meter race. I heard my grandma’s voice. She says, I was born in this home. And for all these years I lit the lamp (deepam) on every evening. If the home is going to wash out in the tsunami I will die along with my home.

When the police came second time at around 8 pm, we were forced to go a nearby emergency camp. I was walking to emergency camp along with my mom. My mom held my hand so tightly. During the walk I noticed my mom was only carrying two things - some books and some jewels. As an eleven year old boy I understood that three things in the world are so important. First one is relation that is why my mom is holding my hand so tightly. Other two, are knowledge and money.

When I was sitting in the emergency camp I saw everyone was praying for their home. There were almost 300 people in that emergency camp. Sitting in a bench along with my mom I was thinking of something else. As an eleven year

old boy, I was not very concerned about my home. Dad and mom were sitting near me, then why should I worry? I was thinking about the importance of life. If tomorrow is my last day, what I will carry along with me? Is my life is worth full? Yes I have a good family and loving friends, but will I carry them when I die? Wherever I go I can carry only two things the skills and the knowledge.

On that night, I understood that every person born in any part of the world is talented, but we won’t introspect the self. When I look back now, I found that the people in my area are brilliant and talented. But they all lead an ordinary life. Because someone told them that they can’t go to heights, without having money for three times food. Yes, I started late but am so great to have started.

We are all living in 21 century. We must be smart to lead a successful life. When I said 21 century if you are confused, I will give you clarity on that. 21 century is the era where you will get message from your girlfriend saying that idarling Wi-Fi is not working here. I will reply later”. 21 century is the era where people will come and say you why you are so serious? Or why do you show dual character? Nobody asks you if you had your food or not. We have to accept the reality and keep moving on.

As Robin Sharma says "Every dream starts off small but you want to start and move it forward every day. Keep on moving your dream forward because there is something magical about sticking to your dream longer than anyone around you thinks you have a right to stick to that dream."

Which place you belong to, Sir?”….. The hotel manager asked meGuwahati….. I repliedGuwahati?Guwahati city, in Assam….Ok ok. Which part of Kolkata…?WHAT?!This was my exact reaction when the hotel manager asked me, when I came to Bangalore for the first time to take admission in NSB, about my state ASSAM. After that, many such incidents occurred when I met few more people who had zero knowledge about the eastern state of India where the sun rises first. One person even had the audacity to ask me “is it in Nepal border?”

That is when I decided that, if I get a chance to tell about my state, I will not leave it. Here are six things which you would be amazed to know about Assam.

Assam is the only home of one horned rhino, in the entire world, though there was a trans-location scheme introduced between Indian and Nepal government in 1980s and some of the rhinos were located to Nepal. Since that time, both the governments have taken major steps towards conservation of one horned rhino, which is also called Indian Rhinoceros. Currently Kaziranga National Park and Pobitora National Park is mainly working for conservation of these rhinos.

The anthem has been composed by Lakshminath Bezbaruah. The first line of the anthem goes like this – O Mur Apunar Dex (O my endearing moth-erland). It was officially adopted as the anthem of the state in 1927 at a conference in Tezpur.

Digboi is known as the oil city of Assam, where the first oil well of Asia was drilled. The first refinery was started here in as early as 1901 with a significant number of British professionals working for Assam Oil Com-pany until the decade following independence of India.

Did you know that world’s largest river island is in Assam? This river island is in the middle of Brahmaputra river. Majuli island has a population of more than 1.3 lakhs. The island had a total area of 1200 square kilometres, but having lost significantly to erosion it had an area of only 600 square kilometres in 2001. The island has been the hub of Assamese neo-Vaishnavite (Nav-Vaishnav) culture, initiated around 15th century by the revered Assamese saint Sriman-ta Shankardeva and his disciple Madhavdeva. Many Satras or monasteries constructed by the saint still survive and represent the colourful Assamese culture.

Things you Need to Know

About Assam

Did You Know??????Assam does not have a dowry system. It has been a dowry free state since forever. But people from rest part of India hardly know it.

Lastly I would like to mention that people from Assam are called Assamese not Assami. Some of our ancestors might have been a Prince from Mong Mao (Aahom dynasty) but that is all. We are not foreigners, so don’t treat us like one. We are as Indian as you are.

Many of Asia’s most endangered species are found in Assam’s wildlife abodes

MyExperienceMy name’s Carla LASSALLE, I’m 20 years old and I’m a French student. I’m studying business and marketing at ESC Pau Business School in France. For my studies, I had to do a semester in a University abroad, so, I decided to go to India ! It has been 2 months that I’m living in Bangalore now. I discovered many things here.

First, Temples ! There are very beautiful temples with a very nice architecture and a lot of colors. One day, with some Indian friends from NSB, we went to ISCKON Temple and they explained me many things about God’s history, traditions,… etc. It was very interesting to share this moment with us and to learn more about their culture.

Then, food ! What is that ?Indian people eat very spicy food. So, at the beginning it was difficult to find something good and NOT spicy to eat. Now, it’s getting better ! But I miss French food some-times.

With my French friends, we visited some places. For ex-ample, we went to Goa ! It’s a beautiful place ! Beach, sun, cocktails.. There were very nice landscapes that can be compared to pictures on postal cards. We also went to Mumbai during Holi Festival ! Mumbai is a very attractive city with a lot of buildings and monuments. It was great to celebrate Holi there ! All the people were colorful and shouting ‘Happy Holi’ in the streets ! It was an incredible moment that I will remember all my life !

India is a booming country with a big contrast. They kept their own culture and traditions and are developing all the country with a lot of technology ! But that’s the thing very pleasant here. The traffic is also crazy here ! In Europe, we have pedes-trian crossing ! Here, no ! So you have to run and to take care to not finish your life under a bus or a truck ! To conclude, I can say that I’m enjoying my trip here ! I have a lot of things to discover yet !This experience is a very good thing for me, for my mind and my future life.”

June / July 2011 Issue 01 CHANAKYA 2016Ritika Sharma & Lavanya G RaoThe King shall lose no time in the opportunity waited for, arrives. And what better opportunity than Chanakya 2016- “The best manager” event at National School of Business.

The event was organized on 27th February, 2016. It was a Saturday morning and all the 16 participants were ready for the event to start. There were in all three rounds which were designed to test the required qualities in managers. The first round was the “Aptitude Test”. What comes in mind when these words are heard…multiple options? But it was 360 degrees opposite to what everybody expected. There were no options and no silence as well. 30 minutes- 30 questions. That’s it! And what best the audience could do—they were singing, dancing, and what not. This round tested the overall patience level of the budding managers and how they can work out things in the most difficult times.

They say “Lack of money is no obstacle. Lack of idea is an obstacle.” 5 participants were shortlisted after the first round and the second round was “Pitch a Business Idea”. Great ideas have the capacity to bring about a change in the society. A manager, who can think of new ideas at each step, can lead the change and make his organization successful. Many new ideas came into light in this round. But only three participants were taken to the next level.

The final round was the most difficult one. For once, all the participants were recollecting the lessons on stress management. It was a role play round in which each contestant was enacting a role of a famous personality. The whole setup can be related to a press conference. Participants were tested on their skills of handling stress. At the end there was a winner- the best manager.

Overall, this event provided a great platform for everyone to understand the requirements of this dynamic world. A great manager is one who rally people towards a better future. They are the one who can change the course of action.

At last, I would like to quote the words of Barbra Pletcher, “The real winners in life are the people who look at every situation with an expectation that they can make it work or they can make it better.”

THE LEGENDMy Dear Sir , We respect you as a great legend of National School Of Business .

You helped us all whole heartedly and shaped many young managers for this competitive world, and we heartfully thankful for that.

" our ears are hearing a voice; we miss you Y .P. Rao sir.... But our hearts are telling us what Y .P .RAO Sir taught to us still remains in our hearts ....."

In a short time we learned many valuable things from you and we have the desire to learn more from you.

Even though you are away from us, your every heartbeat will say the word “students”. Despite working in many different areas, the education environment given your life more happiness. You taught us more with your behaviour rather than by your words.

I learned a few things by observing you - punctuality , dressing, confidence, simplicity....these are few things which I learned from you. We keep your words in our hearts and we will move forward and make our NSB family proud in this society.

You are our NSB LEGEND and now it's time for us to carry on your legacy. As soldiers respect our commanders, we will move forward to win the war for National School Of Business.

THE BLOOMING BUTTERFLIES- Kruthika ROnce, looking at the small and tiny butterflies which were scared to face the big world, the bright flowers said:

The wind may blow, tossing and tearing your wings, but come to us, we will be your home.

The little butterflies agreed happily and lived with these bright flowers, fully protected. The flowers were always concerned and took excellent care of them as their own. As the butterflies grew, the flowers guided them in the right path to live. The butterflies were always secure and were loved by the beautiful flowers. The butterflies got all that they needed. They were fed, they were protected. They were taken care of. Their mistakes were corrected. They were deeply loved.

As they grew older, they saw the world to be much simpler and brighter. They had no words to thank these flowers. They realized that they have all become much brighter and colorful. Luckily, I was one among these bright butterflies.

Am proud to say; these flowers are none other than my beloved parents and teachers who have always been a great pillar of strength for whatever I am today.

In every step of the ladder, the care and attention is abundant, to say the least.

My friend- Mansoor

Friend is a sweet word,

Which cheers every soul.

We await each second,

To get a friend of pearl.

Snow like soft,

Delicate like a rain drop and

Evergreen like a beautiful crop.

He lives in my heart,

Flows like a flow chart,

By occupying,

Half of my heart.

He becomes a part,

Of my friendly heart.

Fire side in winter,

Cool in summer,

He is like the breath of fresh air,

He does not move

He glides.

He is like honey,

Getting a friend like him,

Recharges myself with ,

The power of a dual sim,

With a friend like him,

My life is complete,

I am in search of my friend..!!

Where are you my friend????

Time PassesAway- Mansoor

Time is good as well as bad

No matter how much we try,

It’s quality is not to stop,

Because time passes away,

Time is precious, time is gold,

There are many different names,

Many different ways,

Our parents taught us,

In our childhood days…

Time neither can be bought nor be sold,

It can’t be conserved, and just goes waste…

So don’t let go….because it never comes back…

Live each and every moment so that you can feel its taste…

Forget about future….think of the present……

Because that’s what you lack…

It’s not that you don’t care about your future…

In my words I say just plan your future..

That’s the solution which I have for you..

Last but not the least…..

If keep on thinking of future…

Then away goes your present…..

Because later in your future you will not have any past….

This is what time which goes away and away..

As time passes away….

Easy… Difficult T hings in Our

LifeAdapted from “Board of

Wisdom”

Kruthika R

Easy is to get a place in someone`s address book,

Difficult is to get place in someone`s heart.

Easy is to judge the mistakes of others,

Difficult is to recognize our own mistakes.

Easy is to talk without thinking,

Difficult is to restrain our tongue.

Easy is to dream every night,

Difficult is to assume it.

Easy is to admire a full moon,

Difficult is to see the other side.

Easy is to criticize others,

Difficult is to improve oneself.

Easy is to make mistakes,

Difficult is to learn from them.

Easy is to think about improving,

Difficult is to put it in action. Easy is to read this, Difficult is to follow….!!

Q1. How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

Yes, Its indeed a long story! I started my career as a software developer for a middle-east based IT firm. While I was working, I felt something which I’d not like to disclose, were not working in a proper (justifiable) manner. Myself and my teammates, we used to discuss a lot on the un-ethical business dealings, hence a small inner thought sprang up, to start a firm. Thus, our sole motto was to learn the hard way of bringing up an IT development firm with practically no un-ethical means, that’s how our journey began.

Q2. What was your mission at the onset?

Passionate to say, to be creative and to provide technologically advanced solutions

Q3. How many employees?

We were 9 of us

Q4. What service do you offer?

Web Applications and ERPs

Q.5. What is your company’s goal?

Deliver advanced competitive customised solutions to clients

Q.6. What is unique about your business?

To develop applications with utmost care thereby matching clients requirements. To handle time bound projects and maintain good customer/client relationship. Yes, we are a firm which began with just 4 girls. I feel it could be a motivation for the young and upcoming budding managers [especially women] to start a business of their own and come out of their inhibitions

Q.7. What are your responsibilities as a business owner?

To be a mentor, team lead and motivator

Q.8. What made you choose this type of business?

Sighs! Of course, we felt, we were born to develop and deliver software products

Q.9. What are the risks you faced?

Maintaining good customer-client relationship was indeed a challenge. Managing the expense and profit chart to meet the business needs. Technical issues: server issues, network breakdown, internet issues, hardware issues. Conflicts at times when the customer/client delays the payment. Manage cordial relationship between co-workers. Forgo all the repercussions from our family members.

Q.10. What inputs can you suggest to new entrepreneurs?

Maintain and expand your networking circle. Be innovative and creative to remain in whichever market industry you choose. Remain calm and maintain peace among all your clients. Try going for an extra mile in terms of delivering a product which is user-friendly and customer centric as you are still new in the market, people need to know more about your business

Q.11. In future what business would you like to start?

Good question! Challengingone. At present, I’m at NSB to understand the rules and regulations required for starting a business. Maybe at a later point of time, will think of changing the existing rules if required and start a business which the current market has not yet seen.
