Everyone's eyes are a little bit different — not

just the color, but also how they work and how well they see. Sometimes all the parts

of the eye don't work together the way they should. But eyeglasses or contact

lenses can help most people see

    more clearly.

Someone who is nearsighted (also called myopia) can see stuff up close, like this menu, but

has trouble seeing things further away. Farsighted (also called hyperopia) means someone

can see far away things clearly, but has trouble

seeing items that are close up.

    One-third of children age

10-13 need to wear glasses. Three quarters of

adults need help to see clearly.

20/20 VisionA person with 20/20 vision can see what an average person can see on an eye chart when standing 20 feet away.

SCASD Food Services distributes meals each

week to families with children who do not have

access to USDA funded meals in school. This

includes children who are learning at home

and children who are not yet old enough to

attend school. Learn more about this program

    at www.scasd.org/ordermeals.

The official federal holiday celebrated on the 3rd Monday of February is Washington's Birthday. But as the day honors all of our past presidents, it is more often referred to as Presidents Day.

    Enjoy these fun, presidential facts:

j George Washington was the only president elected

unanimously, meaning that all of the state

    representatives voted for him.

j Teddy Roosevelt was blind in his left eye due to a

    boxing match injury.

    j Our 2nd, 3rd, and 5th presidents all died on July 4.

John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the same

day in 1826. James Monroe died on July 4 , 1831.

j Ulysses S. Grant, was given a $20 speeding ticket for

riding his horse and buggy too fast down a street in

    Washington, D.C.

j The White House's first website went online in

October 1994 during Bill Clinton's administration.

j Jimmy Carter filed a report for a UFO sighting in

1973. He called it “the darndest thing I’ve ever seen.”
