SCIENCE CENTRE TRIP By Shafeenaz Monday, May 9th was the day we were going to the Science Centre. All four Grade 4 classes were participating on the excursion. Once we got off the bus, we explored the

different areas of the Science Centre. The most interesting part of the trip was the banana turtle exhibit. I saw the cutest turtles ever! But, I have questions about the exhibit. For example, what does the banana turtle like to eat? We also attended a workshop, which was fun, too! We learned about how lights and sounds form through experiments. By Markela I had fun at the Science Centre because it was interesting! We saw some exhibits and we went to a workshop about sound and light. Do you know the primary colours? If you guessed red, blue, and yellow, then you’re correct. I learned a lot about sound, light, and other things. It was a great time!

Parents can access the Forest Manor twitter account via computer or smart phone at: h t t p : / / t w i t t e r . c o m /T D S B F o r e s t M a n o r S O C C E R U P D A T E The soccer season has been a wet and muddy one this year. However, both our Grade 4/5 team and the Grade 6 team enjoyed success in their soccer matches. The Grade 4/5 team played well enough to advance to the city finals from their tournament on May 27th. They lost a heartbreaking first game to Brain P.S., but rebounded to win their next two matches to advance to the City Finals on June 10th. Good luck! The members of the Grade 4/5 team include: Kiri, John, Hasan, Adbullah, Abdul, Anhr, Shian, Suhaib, Bismillah, Arvind, Romanos, Amron, Richard, and Ahmed. The Grade 6 team played in their tournament on May 9th. They were up against some very tough competition. They walked away with a win, a tie and a loss, but did not secure an advance to the next round. They were disappointed but played with heart and great sportsmanship. This team still has a few friendly matches against neighbourhood schools to round out their season. The members of the Grade 6 team include: Ghoza, Andreea, Shahzeb, Gordon, Masie, Dhruv, Linda, Alvis, Farzeen, Alvee, Madhavan, Maywand, Ali, and Dima.

LUNCH PROGRAM REMINDERS The lunch program at Forest Manor Public School is available for those students whose parents are unable to be at home at lunch time due to work commitments or educational pursuits. Proof of employment or education course work must be provided to the school, including a work/school phone contact number (not cell #). If a parent or guardian is at home during the lunch time, it is expected that students go home for lunch. The school is limited to 5 lunch supervisors to oversee the entire program for approximately 550 students, which creates potential issues of safety if every student in Grades 1 to 6 stays at school for lunch. When students go home for lunch, it reduces the burden on our lunch supervisors and it provides students with an opportunity to re-connect with family and get a break in the day from school. Thank you for your support!

RETURNING TO FOREST MANOR AFTER SEPTEMBER 6th? If your child will return to Forest Manor, but won’t start on the first day of school, September 6th, please come to the Office to complete an Extended Absence Form. This will allow us to keep your child on the attendance until he or she has returned. Otherwise you may have to re-register your child upon your return. VOLUNTEER TEA Our Volunteers at Forest Manor are very special to us. They help out the classroom and the school in many different ways. On May 19th, we held a volunteer tea to thank all the people who help at Forest Manor over the course of the year. The gym was decorated with a beautiful Undersea theme and the tables were set with delicious treats and drinks. Many staff members dropped in during the afternoon to personally thank their volunteers.

MOVING SCHOOLS NEXT YEAR? It is hard to believe that it’s already May and we’re starting to plan for next year!! It is important that parents inform the school as early as possible if they are planning to move out of the Forest Manor Public School area by the end of August. *If your child is currently in JK to Grade 5, and you are planning to move by the end of August, please com-plete the form below and return it to the school with your child. This way we do not put your child on a class list, but prepare a transfer form for June. Please return the form by May 6th, 2011. **Please note: If your child is in Grade 6, there is no need to return this form as s/he will be graduating from Forest Manor.
