ADVISERS MESSAGE02
Dear Residents,
The budget this year is ocused on creating an inclusive society. It is ocussed on
measures to help the elderly, the disabled and low income Singaporeans. About
hal a billion dollars have been set aside to help our elderly age in the community
instead o in a nursing home. So Singaporeans who want to take care o their aged
parents who are also not so well will be given many more options through better
day care acilities, higher medical subsidies and caregiver support to name a ew.We are also looking at how to make it easier or people who are in need to get help
whether rom the CDCs, FSCs or other help agencies.
I have received many positive eedback rom residents on this years budget. Many welcomed the ocus on theelderly, the disabled and our low income. It is important that we ocus on developing an inclusive society which
basically means that everyone has a place in our society and can aspire to a better lie or their children.
However, creating an inclusive society is not the job o the government alone. We need everyone to do their part.
In Bukit Batok East or instance, I have volunteers who help in running tuition classes or children rom low incomeamilies, organize activities or our senior citizens, coordinate help or those using our mobile clinic and even
distribute ood packs to the elderly needy who are not mobile.
However, I need many more volunteers as the work is never done and many more could be done in Bukit Batok
East. During my house visits, I had invited many o you to join me as volunteers.
I hope that many more o you will do so and do your part to help create a stronger and more inclusive Bukit Batok East.
Those who are interested can get the volunteer orms rom our community club. Or you could also go to our
website at [email protected] to indicate your interest.
Halimah Yacob
