President’s Report Well, we have come to the end of a successful and satisfying year here at the Brisbane Bridge Centre and we are now in Christmas mode. Last week was Hamper Week, during which we raffle hampers at each session for members. This is the first year that I have had sole responsibility for the organization of these hampers and I can tell you it is no insignificant feat. I now realize what a magnificent job Lorna Newnham did over many years when she had the responsibility for hamper production – a big thank you, Lorna. The Christmas party was held on Saturday and was a great success. The hamper raffle was very well supported and for that I thank you all. It was won by Keith Long. Please see pictures of the party later in this newsletter. Last weekend BBC had the honour of hosting the QBA Teams of Three competition and it was good to see so many of our Club members competing. Once again there was excellent feedback, people do seem to like the happy atmosphere and ambience that our Club engenders. As usual there are many thanks to give out - Chris Larter as usual was organizer-in- chief, and Richard Wallis organized the experts and teams. All the set-up was carried out by Chris, Arne and Bill Tolstrup, with help from Richard Fox, Lynn Kelly, and Geoff and Cathie Moller. John Lahey and Rachel Langdon collected the money, and John also caddied during the morning. Pam Singley caddied in the afternoon. During the day itself I helped in the kitchen as did Muriel Baker, Hazel Lahey, Jan Staunton, Leo Stellmach, Judy Jessop, Lynn Kelly, Marjorie Jackson and Arne, who also did the bar. Thank you so much to all those people and to the many who provided cakes and savouries, and especially Robyn Brady and Margaret Rylands who made the rissoles. Janette Hiatt worked hard all day and her daughter and son-in-law Lorraine and Andrew operated the barbecue with great skill. Tilley Thillainathan and Colleen Sobey were second in the A Grade and Sheila Wills, Lesleigh Egan and Lynne Henley were third. Well done to you all. It was lovely to see Pauline Crowe back at the Club after a stay in hospital. I thought that she was away on holiday so the customary get well soon card was not sent, for which I apologise, Pauline. Col McIntosh came to see us on Tuesday with help from Jim Reay. Col has had a bad run of luck with his health and people were thrilled to see him back. Please get back to full health Col and return to play as soon as possible. There is a lovely article about Marjorie Godfrey in the current edition of the UQ Contact magazine. There is a copy on the noticeboard. On behalf of the committee of BBC I would like to wish all members and their families a very Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and Happy New Year. Elaine
