HEALTH, WELLNESS AND FITNESS FOR FEELING FINE by Bill Mottice

The new year has started and some of us have

thoughts about what I should or could do to make this

year a better and more healthy one. To be successful

there has to be a new mind set and determination, but

many will have the same old mind set . I should, I could

but it takes time and I sweat and I get tired etc,

etc. Well lets start with the fact that we as a whole are

the fattest nation on earth and getting worse.

The saddest fact of all is that in 2013 the American

Medical Association declared Obesity a disease along

with Heart, Cancer, and Diabetes. It also noted that it

in some cases obesity was the cause or aided in the devel-

opment of the other major diseases. It also was the cost-

liest of all. They thought that this would raise awareness

of the situation and cause people to react in a positive

way to conquer it.

The exact opposite has happened. People just ac-

cepted it with a shrug of their shoulders saying "there is

nothing I can do about it so if I get too big I will just get

a pill or buy one of those DIET programs everybody is

selling".

For those that wish to change lets start with our fear

of facing all those machines in the fitness center or using

that as our excuse not to try. For those that use just one

lets try the rest. Do not let them scare you as they are

user friendly with an emphasis on user. There are three

types of cardio machines and weight machines that have

instructions on how to use them. For those that are used

to individual machines our machines can do almost any

thing that your machines in the gyms back home.

Lets self examine. Does your belt get hidden in your

waistline? Do your arms flap in the breeze? Do you

puff after walking up a couple of stairs and are your legs

getting so weak that you have trouble getting up off of

the floor? As I noted in last months column, the Har-

vard Medical School has declared EXERCISE as the

best medicine of all . Its a New Year so let's have a new

start by walking to the fitness center and taking your

medicine. It tastes good and there are many of us that

will help you. It also helps keep you from getting out of

bed multiple times each night.

So come to the party, the fitness party that is. P.S.

Tossing and turning in bed at night does not count as

exercise.

the members who are responsible for the Social activities

at the Club House Many you see working at the events.

Others are helping "behind the scenes" and are just as

important for a successful event. Without our Heroes you

would not be enjoying all the Great Parties and Activities

in our newly expanded Club House.

Newcomers--we are so happy to have you, we need you.

Who knew we would be having this much fun after age

65? New volunteers are essential to our group. Why not
