the delivery of two harsh environment self-propelled, self-elevating liftboats, the Kraken and the Leviathan, to Seajacks. These units are two of only three purpose built vessels in the world designed for windfarm turbine installation, clearly making the Company a leader in this field. Lamprell also delivered our first jack-up

We entered 2009 on the back of a financial crisis that the world had not seen since 1929; the economic and financial impact affected most companies in the world to a greater or lesser extent, including our own. The reduction in oil and gas prices, the absence of a working credit market and overall economic uncertainty led to lower capital investment by our clients in all sectors of our business which will result in our turnover this year being less than our record-breaking results achieved in 2008. Inevitably, the Company had to reduce costs during this period to combat these events, regrettably including reductions to our valued workforce.

Towards the end of this year we have seen improvements in our business with a number of contract awards from Saipem Energy Services combined with a gradual strengthening in the rig refurbishment business, and we remain hopeful that we shall be successful in being awarded new construction contracts in the months ahead.

Notwithstanding these events, 2009 will mark a year of major achievements for Lamprell with

drilling rig to Scorpion Offshore; the Offshore Freedom was delivered on time, on budget in April and the rig is now working successfully in the Gulf on a four-year contract. The successful completion of these three major new build construction contracts marks a major milestone in the Company’s thirty-five-year history.

The Company also successfully launched the Offshore Mischief jack-up rig in November, which is scheduled to be delivered to Scorpion Offshore in April 2010. This rig together with the BassDrill tender assist barge, the BassDrill Alpha, which is due for delivery in December of this year, will further strengthen our position in the new build construction market.

I would like to end by thanking all of our management and staff for their dedication and hard work during a historically difficult period in the world markets. As the year has progressed we have witnessed increases in commodity prices and, combined with improvements in the worldwide financial markets, we can look forward with confidence to 2010 building upon our excellent reputation in all of our market segments.

At a glittering ceremony at Dubai’s Madinat Ballroom recently, outgoing Lamprell CEO, Peter Whitbread, received the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Tom Leander, editor of London-based Lloyd’s List.

The award nomination is decided by a panel of senior Lloyd’s editorial management in London and pays tribute to the individual whose long commitment to the maritime industry, professionalism, dedication and business practice is deemed to be of the highest degree.

Lamprell’s first new build tender drilling barge BassDrill Alpha is delivered

The final major milestone of the year was celebrated in late December when Lamprell’s first new build tender drilling barge BassDrill Alpha completed final commissioning and MEP erection tests at the quayside in Jebel Ali, and was handed over to owners BassDrill.

The unit was constructed on schedule in 15 months, and the detail design was completed to class approval by Lamprell Engineering Department using PDMS 3D modelling software (Lamprell were awarded the Tekla Offshore Award in December 2008 for the best utilization of the modelling package in a project of this type).

The drilling package was designed by Lamprell Oilfield Engineering Facility in conjunction with the US-based mast designer Woolslayer.

The project accumulated over 2 million man-hours without a single Lost Time Incident (LTI).

Noble’s LeTourneau designed 1979 built 116C jack-up rig, Roy Rhodes, is in the final stages of a major refurbishment and upgrade project at Lamprell’s Sharjah Port Facility.

The Living Quarters were rebuilt from an empty shell and POB increased from 92 to 120. The new quarters boast a state-of-the-art galley, a mess room, a helicopter briefing room, luxurious new accommodation and radio and control centres.

The rig was also re-powered with the installation of 4 Caterpillar C-175 – V16, 4-stroke, 2,586 HP engines, installed in the rebuilt engine room – the first time these ultra modern engines have been installed for marine application.

A newly designed and constructed pump room services the enlarged mud pits which have also been re-built.

To allow the rig an enhanced drilling capability, the cantilever outreach has been extended to 57’ and to 15’ on the transverse, a new sub base and drill floor form the foundation for the new Woolslayer Derrick and NOV PS2-750A top drive. The drilling package is complemented by an entirely new shale shaker area.

While awaiting a new contract, work has begun on fabrication of leg extensions, should the rig be required to operate in deeper waters.

The Noble David Tinsley arrived at the Lamprell Hamriyah Facility on 22nd May 2009 following a punch through in the Arabian Gulf.

The incident caused severe structural damage to the legs, upper guides and jackhouses.

The forward leg collapsed onto the accommodation causing considerable damage to the upper deck.

Work continues to remove the damaged legs and also the spud cans and leg sections from the ocean floor.

Lamprell are in the process of constructing new leg sections with chord and bracings being supplied from the US.

Repairs to the living quarters are now complete and work is ongoing on the leg guides, leg wells and spud cans.

The work is scheduled for completion by August 2010.

The Maersk Resilient belongs to a new generation of high efficiency jack-ups.

The rig was built in January 2008, of a Keppel Fels Mod V B Design, and has been operating for Dubai Petroleum since arriving in the Gulf in March 2008.

Since arriving at Lamprell’s Hamriyah Facility in July 2009, the rig has undergone minor modification work to the drill floor hydraulics, additional elevated set back area and minor steelwork repairs.

Scorpion jack-up Offshore Mischief loads out from Lamprell’s Hamriyah Facility Offshore Mischief, the second of the two LET super 116e jack-ups built by Lamprell for Scorpion offshore, was loaded out recently.

The rig was driven onto the transport barge Hamriyah Pride on multi-axle trailers, and at a load out weight of 5,995 tons, this was the heaviest loadout undertaken by transport specialists, ALE, in the Middle East.

The rig has been floated safely off the barge and is jacked up at the Lamprell Hamriyah Facility quayside.

At the time of loadout, the rig had only 2 rounds of legs installed and is estimated to be 75% complete, well on track for final completion and delivery in April 2010.

The rig arrived in Lamprell’s Hamriyah port facility in August 2009, one of the four Rowan Units to be released by Aramco during the year.

Initially, the rig was hot-stacked but gradually Rowan started on a scope of work to have the rig in a state of readiness for a new contract.

Lamprell’s scope included increasing the drilling envelope by extending the port side transverse skidding rack by 12’ and adding a new motor to both port and starboard cantilever skidders, with underdeck stiffening required to support the new skidders.

The tanks were thickness-gauged and repaired, coated and reinstated. The living quarters were given an upgrade together with a number of additional miscellaneous jobs, all of which were completed in mid-December and ready for redeployment in 2010.

One of the first rigs to be released by Aramco, the Middle Town arrived at Lamprell’s Sharjah Port Facility in May 2009.

As with the Arch Rowan, this LET 116C rig from 1980 was stacked, but the decision was

This year, as part of our corporate social responsibility, Lamprell signed up for the ‘Clean Up the World 2009’ program.

The initiative was first set up by Dubai Municipality seventeen years ago and the growth in participation since has been exponential. The activities and events are aimed to promote conservation and instill a sense of collective responsibility between businesses and society as a whole.

The program was run over four days and involved various clean-up operations around Dubai. Lamprell signed up to clean the area around the Jebel Ali Industrial site. The team comprised managers, supervisors and workers. The clean-up was a great success and the Lamprell staff completed the collection of several tons of industrial rubbish.

After two consecutive defeats, Jebel Ali A team came well prepared to the Sharjah Cricket Stadium for the 2009 Lamprell Cricket Day.

After winning the toss, Jebel Ali decided to field on a very wet outfield compliments of a heavy overnight dew.

Sharjah began strongly reaching 41-1 after 5 overs before some fine bowling led by Glenn Pollock taking three quick wickets to collapse Sharjah middle order. Sharjah failed to complete their 25 overs and finished on 98 all out after 19 overs.

Jebel Ali commenced their innings losing two wickets in the first two overs before a solid performance by Prakash Kumar scoring 35 runs which ensured the visitors reached the winning target with 8 overs to spare.

Juzer Master, Jebel Ali’s Team Captain was presented with the Lamprell Ashes Trophy by Kevin Isles, Vice President of the Sharjah Facilty. The trophy will remain in Jebel Ali until next year. Prakesh Kumar was presented with the Man of the Match trophy.

Following the lunch break, Sharjah B Team won the toss and decided to bat. They scored a very healthy 180-7 from their 25 overs. Jebel Ali B Team tried to match the required run rate but failed in a valid attempt reaching 136 all out in the 22 over.

Both games were well supported by employees and friends of the players and were all treated to a great display of quality cricket.
