Coach John Wooden 100 Years of Greatness: 1910 - 2010
Matt Fulks
In 1973, John Wooden became the first person to be enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player
and a coach. By 2010, the year of his death at the age of 99, he had become something of a living legend.
Continually beloved by his players, with awards and athletic facilities named in his honor and his philosophies
immortalized, the legacy of Coach Wooden was apparent well before his passing. This commemorative portrait of
a marvelous individual reintroduces the players he coached, his many accomplishments on and off the court, and
reveals the impact he had on the lives of countless others. As one of the most iconic figures in sports history,
the "Wizard of Westwood" had achieved such feats as a record-setting ten NCAA basketball championships-
including seven in a row. Whether celebrating his championship playing career at Purdue or his unmatchable
coaching record at UCLA, the book demonstrates that Wooden's life is one well worth remembering.

Madmen's Ball The Continuing Saga of Kobe, Phil, and the Los Angeles Lakers
Mark Heisler, Jerry West
In this revised and expanded edition, Los Angeles Times writer Mark Heisler investigates the 45-year history of
the Los Angeles Lakers and unveils a pattern of pampered and/or misguided players, megalomaniacal executives,
and owners whose obsessive drives for championships and attention combined to create an atmosphere of
conflict for decades Throughout the entire 2003-04 season, fans and the media called the L.A. Lakers the
biggest reality show in the country. But the laundry list of conflicts-the ongoing Kobe-Shaq bickering, Kobe's
sexual assault trial, Phil Jackson's final season, Gary Payton's refusal to admit his physical decline, and the loss
to Detroit in the championship-was just another year in the history of the Lakers. Madmen's Ball goes back to
the Lakers' unceremonious arrival in Los Angeles in 1960 to show that the franchise has been embroiled in
controversy, in-house battles and personality clashes for generations.
Summary
Mark Heisler covers the NBA for the Los Angeles Times. He has been on the professional basketball beat for 25
years, starting at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Bulletin, and was the winner of the Naismith Hall of Fame's Curt
Gowdy Award in 2006. He lives in Los Angeles. Jerry West played for 14 seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers,
leading them to nine NBA Finals and the 1972 championship. After retiring as the third-highest scorer in NBA
history, West coached the Lakers to a 145-101 record over three seasons. He became the team's general
manager in 1982, helping to build the dynasty of the 1980s, and currently serves as the president of basketball
operations for the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly: Los Angeles Lakers Heart-Pounding, Jaw-Dropping, and Gut-Wrenching Moments from Los Angeles Lakers History
Steven Travers, Art Spander
Genuine fans take the best team moments with the less than great, and know that the games that are best
forgotten make the good moments truly shine. This monumental book of the Los Angeles Lakers documents all
the best moments and personalities in the history of the team, but also unmasks the regrettably awful and the
unflinchingly ugly. In entertaining-and unsparing-fashion, this book sparkles with Lakers highlights and lowlights,
from wonderful and wacky memories to the famous and infamous. Such moments include the 33-game winning
streak of the 1960s as well as the implosion of the 2004-2005 team. Whether providing fond memories, goose
bumps, or laughs, this portrait of the team is sure to appeal to the fan who has been through it all.
