CLASS 4A — Last season’s big three — Chiawana, Richland and Moses Lake — all sent their best players on to four-year colleges so there’s significant unpredictability here. Wenatchee could make a big rise up from fourth with the return of all-leaguers Michaela George, Lexxi Hallberg and Kylee Butterbaugh. George (14.7) and Hallberg (11.0) are the league’s only returning double-digit scorers. Richland has eight varsity play-ers back, including all-leaguers Britney Pringle and Kennedy Corrigan. Defend-ing champ Chiawana lost a lot off its third-place state team but returns 6-1 Sadie Sparks.CLASS 3A — Kamiakin and Eastmont tied for last season’s league title at 13-1 and both had nine underclass-men. The Braves, though, went on to place fifth at state and they return player of the year Khadidja Toure and sister Sira Toure, who also earned all-league honors for her position and

defense. Khadidja Toure led the league in scoring at 20.2, and Kamiakin also returns its No. 2 scorer Courtney Nel-son (11.4). Eastmont graduated ace

Kendra Scott but returns all-leaguers Bekah Waterhouse, Nikki Gilbert and Charity Degman.

Full-court press: Prior’s club doesn’t have much experience; the only four players with much varsity time last year also spent some time on JV. The JV and C-squad teams were at .500 or bet-ter, though, and players like Hamilton and Schutt should provide a spark. But it may be a year before the Mustangs begin to claw their way up the stand-ings.

Full-court press: Most of last sea-son’s varsity roster graduated, though Strom and the athletic Craig are solid, Shavehead has potential (5.5 ppg in limited action) and last year’s JV was pretty decent. The key piece will be Bal-deras, who missed most of last season. A 6-5 guy with legitimate post moves is a rare commodity in the CWAC, and a healthy Balderas would be the Wolves’ go-to guy.

ELSEWHERE IN THE CWAC

Quincy made a move up into the middle of the pack and might con-tinue that climb this season. Coach Wade Petersen has an experienced squad of nine seniors and three juniors, led by second-team all-CWAC selection Braulio Flores (8.6 ppg) and a solid nucleus of other seniors — Jacob Durfee (7.6 ppg, also a solid rebounder), Mario Martinez (9.4) and Kody Berens (6.5). The Jacks are long on athleticism and short on, well, height. ... After going a rollercoaster couple of seasons — third in state in 2010, winless last year — Ephrata fig-ures to find itself somewhere between those two extremes. The Tigers’ five varsity returners include gifted 6-3 slasher Tanner Williams (10.1 ppg) and PG Layton Lange, and soph G Dylan Bentham can shoot the rock. But there’s not a lot of height, and 6-3 Michael Clark and 6-foot Jake Laird will have to overachieve on the boards. ... With a junior-dominated team last year, Othello might have been a year away, and this year might be that year. With 6-4 Drew Scott (12.5 ppg) pulling down nearly 10 boards a game and muscular 6-footer Tyson Mollotte and 6-1 Dustin Rodg-ers also pounding the boards, that will leave plenty of room for David Garza (11.5) and PG Caleb Garza (8.6) and athletic senior Jacob Tovar to score from outside the key.

ELSEWHERE IN THE CWAC

Last year, a lot of CWAC coaches thought Ephrata might give Prosser a serious run for the league title, but the Tigers ended up barely over .500. Perhaps they were just a year away, and this is the year Ephrata steps up. The Tigers have a solid nucleus of eight seniors, led by stellar 5-6 guard Kelsey Yenney (11.9 ppg), 5-10 forward Heidi Buchert and 5-11 post Hailey Boyd. ... After graduating six members off last year’s team — including star Desiree Durfee — Quincy will have to build around the versatility of its standout pair of post-forward sisters, senior Cassidee Davis (9.1 ppg last season) and junior Aurorah Davis (6.6). The two have been impact players for the Jacks since they moved in from Illinois two years ago. Senior post Marinda Talley averaged nearly 5.0 ppg over the second half of last season. ... At Othello, the rebuilding challenge will be enormous following the graduation of Christine Kirkwood (16.9 ppg). The leading returner figures to be Alyssa Martinez, who averaged 2.8 ppg but came on strong over the latter part of 2010-2011, including a 10-point night against Wapato, until a knee injury ended her season.
