    COMMANDER’S CORNER

FLYING EAGLESNovember 2014 Civil Air Patrol

    Squadron Commander

    Lt Col Ilana Mor

In February of 2004, I became a member of the Bartow-Etowah

Composite Squadron. At the time, I did not know that I was

joining a new family, the CAP Family. These last ten years have

been filled with many exciting adventures, a multitude of new

friends, extensive opportunities to serve others, as well as ways to

improve myself by learning new skills and by gaining muchuseful knowledge.

I have had the opportunity to serve as the Deputy Commander for

Cadets, the Group I Cadet Program Development Officer, the

Character Development Officer, the Public Affairs Officer, a

Squadron Activities Officer, and have been the Editor-in-Chief of

the Flying Eagles for ten years. In addition, I am a qualified

Mission Staff Assistant and Public Information Officer, and have

served on many Group-wide Activities as the Project Officer.

My latest assignment is as the Commander of the Bartow-Etowah

Composite Squadron. I greatly look forward to these next four

years because I believe that one of our greatest missions in Life is

to live our lives so that others can benefit from our existence. I

intend to dedicate my life to that end.

I have great respect for those who have given to this country. As

a young girl, I grew up hearing stories about my Father’s service

to our country during WWII, and today I surround myself with a

multitude of people who have proudly done the same.

I quite often tell people about the Civil Air Patrol and its missions

for America. I am sure that if my Father was alive today, he

would be beaming with pride that I am able to contribute to the

community, state, and nation as a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

I thank those who have given me this opportunity and support. It

is my intention to serve with honor as the GA129 Commander.

“Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, is a nonpro

organization with more than 61,000 members nationwide, operating a fleet of 550 aircr

CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search a

rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by

AFRCC with saving 54 lives in fiscal year 2011. Its volunteers also perform homeland secur

disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. T

members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 27,0young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP received the World Pe

Price in 2011 and has been performing missions for America for over 70 years. CAP a

participates in Wreaths Across America, an initiative to remember, honor and teach about

    sacrifices of U.S. military veterans.”

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SQUADRON FLAG –  THE GUIDON

Historically, the flag or colors of a unit served as the point around which the soldiers

an organization rallied as they moved forward into battle. The colors have traditionabeen at the side of the Commander, and were carried forward even when the Comman

fell in combat. All others may perish, but the colors live on.

The transfer of colors, as witnessed in the Bartow-Etowah Composite Squadro

Change of Command Ceremony on 23 October 2014, signifies the following:

    1.

The transfer of responsibility for ongoing operations and accomplishments

    Bartow-Etowah Composite Squadron’s missions

    2.

Responsibility for all Civil Air Patrol assets3. The welfare of the Bartow-Etowah Composite Squadron’s Senior Members a
