  • “Everybody comments on the staircase, without fail, people love to touch it, it’s incredibly tactile.”

Stealing the scene ahead is a uniquely crafted oak staircase. Reclaimed from Cartmel Priory Church, and dating back to the late 12th century, the rough-hewn wood once served as the roof structure for this historic church. One of the original venues for the signing of the Magna Carta, Cartmel’s rich history is now a part of the structure of Barn Close. A church with strong links to the Magna Carta.Decorated throughout in quality Farrow and Ball tones, the thick walls of Barn Close offer a sense of comfort and stolidity.

Emanating warmth and welcome is the carbon-neutral, highly efficient, zero-emissionsMulti fuel Yorkshire Dunsley stove, set on a Lakeland stone hearth beneath an oak lintel.Comfortingly cosy on brisk winter evenings, stoke up the stove and curl up with a book in the large window seat, with views out to snow topped Cartmel Fell and Bigland Fell.Exposed by the current owners, original beams line the high ceiling above, harmonising with the designer oak, Ted Todd flooring below.Integral speaker wiring is set within the walls of the lounge, ideal should you wish to install a 7.1 cinema surround sound system.
