PRINCIPAL REPORT
Welcome back to school, everyone! I hope you all had an
enjoyable and happy school holiday time. We are looking forward
to a fantastic term full of great learning opportunities for everyone
and some amazing whole school events.
Staffing
This term we warmly welcome three new members of staff to our
Barnier family.
Mrs Suchita Andrews will take up the position of EaLD (English
as an Additional Language or Dialect) teacher on Monday 20th
August. Mrs Andrews comes to us from The Meadows PS and
attained this position through the merit selection process. She is
absolutely amazing, very passionate and has lots of energy as
well as tremendous expertise and knowledge of teaching and
learning. Mrs Guiang sadly left us at the end of last term, she has
moved up the coast. Class 4G will be taught by Mr Bains for the
remainder of 2018. Mr Bains is an outstanding, talented, caring
and experienced teacher who has already formed many positive
and lovely relationships with students, staff and parents here at
Barnier. We are very lucky to have him with us for the next two
terms! Finally Ms Karina Page has taken up her position as
Instructional Leader here at Barnier this term. Ms Page attained
her position through the process of merit selection and comes to
us with outstanding knowledge, expertise and experience as well
as beautiful interpersonal qualities. She will be working closely
beside staff and students to ensure that all students achieve the
highest possible educational outcomes. All three of these
teachers are warmly welcomed to Barnier and will make a
positive difference for our students.
NAIDOC Day at Barnier
We had a fantastic NAIDOC day at Barnier on Monday 30th July.
The day began with an outstanding school assembly led by our
Aboriginal students and Jie Pittman from the Liven Deadly
Program. This assembly was informative, respectful, fun and
inclusive. It was absolutely beautiful and the perfect way to
celebrate the sense of pride and belonging that our Aboriginal
students and parents feel in their culture. All students completed
learning activities in classrooms throughout the day and also
enjoyed a performance in the afternoon. I would like to sincerely
thank Jie Pittman for his passion, dedication and positive energy.
Thanks also to Renee Losiak and Kelly Housbey for their hard
work in helping to plan, organise and run the day.

Class Visits
This term I am looking forward to teaching all stage 3 students. I’ll
also be attending all stage assemblies and doing a playground
duty every week. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to get to
know more of our amazing and wonderful students a little better
and interact in a positive way with all members of our school
community.
Staff Development Day
On Monday 23rd
July all school staff, including our Staff Learning
Support Officers and Office Staff, attended an absolutely
inspirational professional learning day focusing on student
engagement in learning, growth mindset and the importance of
student and staff wellbeing along with over 400 staff from the
Blacktown Learning Community of schools. The presenter was
Dan Haesler. It was an excellent opportunity for professional and
personal growth, providing us all with information that was most
relevant and extremely valuable.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Barnier is now a PBL school, as many of you are already aware.
We have a large team of teachers who are meeting weekly and
working hard to plan and develop this data-driven, positive
approach to student engagement across the school. As well as a
passionate PBL team, we have 100% support from all staff. I can
very confidently predict that this approach will have an
outstanding positive impact over time as I have seen PBL work
highly successfully in my two previous schools. I am looking
forward to seeing the growth and improved data that will be
happening at Barnier. Watch this space!! There will be many new,
fun initiatives this year specifically designed to support our
students to make great choices with regards to their learning and
behaviour.
School Working Bee
Many thanks to those who helped us clean up the school gardens
on Sunday 29th July. It was great to see parents and staff turn up
and work together, giving up their weekend time to help us. We
had a small group last Sunday who put in a huge amount of effort
and achieved a great deal as a result. The area worked on looks
great, although there is still lots of work to be done! We have big
plans to work alongside our P&C to beautify the school providing

the very best learning environment possible for our students.
Please continue to speak to your children about the importance of
caring respectfully for our school environment by treating school
grounds and property with care and placing all litter in the bins
provided, so that all our hard work is not spoiled. We will be
having more working bees this term and next term so we’d love
more parents to come and help out. Many hands make lighter
work! Please check Skoolbag and Facebook notifications for
more details.
Three Way Conferences
Thank you to all staff, students and parents who participated in
our three way conferences this week. It was a real pleasure to
walk around and see such an important partnership ‘in action’
and making such a positive difference for our students.
Have a great fortnight, everyone!

Mind Marathon
Students from 5/6K put their minds to the test last Tuesday July 31st at the Mind
Marathon Competition held at East Hills Boys High School. Battling it out with
primary schools from across the Sydney region, the Barnier students eagerly and
excitedly collaborated together to work through a series of intense rounds including
mathematics, science, engineering, history, geography, English and general
knowledge. The questions were tough but that didn’t deter our students who
worked through till the very end of the tournament ensuring they answered every
last question. Leaving the high school a little tired and drained on the day, but
certainly not defeated, the team now eagerly await the news of moving into the
championship round. We wish you luck Barnier! Well done on a fantastic effort!

NAIDOC Day
Barnier celebrated the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made, and continue to make, during our NAIDOC Day on Monday July 30th, 2018. As part of this day, our Liven Deadly students, in collaboration with Mr Jie Pittman, presented their own NAIDOC performance in front of the whole school. It was so amazing to witness the pride and respect shown by all students and visitors. In keeping with the theme this year, we had an amazing visit from Taryn Beatty, who is of both Torres Strait Island and Aboriginal descent. Her vibrant and energetic performance enabled our students to learn a number of dances and songs from both cultures. They had a wonderful time and loved getting up on stage to dance! During class time, students completed a number of engaging activities to celebrate Australia's
Indigenous cultures.4W, KB and KJ worked together to make Lemon Myrtle Shortbread. They
may not have turned out the best, but the kids had a great time in the process!
