1 Introduction
Certain types of production status information can be scanned from barcodes either via reports produced byCMPIC or from pre-printed barcode data sheets. This document shows where this data may be printed fromand how it can be used to update CMPIC. Please note this functionality is only available to customers with abarcode scanning licence issued for CMPIC.
2 What Information Can be Recorded by the Scanner ?
At present, 8 types of production status information can be captured by the barcode scanning utility. A singlescanning session may include any or all of these types.
Checkwire a Cable
Record Resistance Range for all cores of a Checkwired Cable
Stage/Line or Work Package Installation
Cable Installation
Cable Surplus
Device CIC
Cable Termination
Cable Cutting
Device Termination
At the start of each scanning session the Project ID, Vessel and Engineer are defined. This information must bevalid for the records to be imported into CMPIC. For the Engineer to be recognised in CMPIC his 4 digit codemust be defined in CMPIC reference data under the CLOCKNO code.
All the records will be processed in strict timestamp order and any identical records which only differ in theirEngineer, Scanner ID or length values will retain the latest and discard earlier records.
Because scanned records cover a range of activities, it is conceivable that validation of scanned data will not beperformed by a single function. Therefore a method is required to filter records for processing data, which hasoriginated from a scanner or group of scanners. In this way if for example Stores are issued with twoscanners to record cutting of cables, these scanners will be allocated to a group and data presented in theimport utility for validation will be restricted to that downloaded from the groups (Stores) scanners.
Scanner Groups can be identified by the first digit of the scanner ID. Group 1 scanners will all be given a 3digit ID which begins with 1, Group 2 scanners will have an ID which starts with 2 etc.

3 Using the Barcode Data Import Utility to Update CMPIC
The Barcode Data Utility screen (CMBF01) can be used to process ALL scanned data or only specific scannergroups or specific vessels. When calling the screen from the menu PARAMETER 1 can be used to pass inspecific vessels and PARAMETER 2 to pass a scanner group. Leave blank to process all scanners and vessels.
The data import has 3 stages, represented by the buttons at the top of the screen Load Scan Data, Validateand Process Records.
Load the data from the scanner upload.
Validate the data
Import the records into CMPIC and update relevant statuses.
As the data varies depending on whether it applies to Cable, Device or Stage/Work Package, each has aseparate tab page.

3.1 Step 1 Load Scan Data
Before pressing the Load Scan Data button make sure any records still showing in the screen which have notbeen processed are OK to be discarded. All records currently shown will be cleared out of the temporary tablesprior to uploading the new records.
Press the Load Scan Data button to take data from the scanner upload and place it in temporary tables forvalidation prior to processing. On pressing the button a popup window will give the option of generating arejection report (Yes by default), which will output all outstanding records from previous upload in PDF formatto the file path entered.
If the screen has been called with Vessel and/or Scanner Group parameters only records matching this criteriawill be uploaded.
As part of the upload process records will be validated and a message shown in the right-hand column if the
records are invalid for any reason. The button on the left-hand side will light up Green if the record is valid andready for processing, Yellow if the record is invalid but manual update of the offending data is allowable or Redif the record is invalid and must be discarded.

3.2 Step 2 Validate
Records are automatically validated on upload but there are cases where subsequent updates may causepreviously invalid records to now be valid. Press the Validate button to force re-validation at any time.

option to override these validation failures will be given when re-running validation.
In addition to the specific checks above all data passed must be valid i.e. Cable/Device ID must exist on theproject and vessels must be applicable etc.
3.2.1 Cables Tab
The Surplus lengths scanned in can be manually updated for Cable Surplus and Cable Termination recordsproviding the value has not already been recorded at the cable end specified.
The Resistance scanned in can be manually updated for Checkwire records providing a valid value is enteredor selected from LOV.

3.3 Step 3 Process Records
Any records shown with Yellow or Red buttons on the left-hand side will be ignored. All other records i.e. thoseshown with a Green button on the left-hand side will be processed and CMPIC updated accordingly.
On pressing the Process button a popup window will appear giving the option to output Rejected records to a
PDF file and to output records available for processing to a Success Log. Note the success report shows allrecords successfully processed for the current date so records processed separately but on the same day willappear again on each report.
Record Type Processing
Checkwire Provided the cable is fully terminated, its status is updated to CCW. If theresistance range for all cores is also passed the resistance range isupdated for all cores, which do not already have a value.
Stage / WorkPackageInstallation
All appropriate cables on the specified Line/Work Package will be set toIFP, have their pulled length set and a corresponding Pull History recordcreated.
Cable Installation Fully pulled cables will have their status set to IFP, pulled length set to cutlength and a corresponding Pull History record created.
Cable Surplus The surplus length passed will overwrite any existing value recorded assurplus length for the end identified.
Device CIC First make sure IDFIT and IDCOMP status codes have been entered andadd them if not. Then set Device status to CIC.
CableTermination
Set the cable status to fully terminated at the appropriate end or fullyterminated for both ends if the other end is already fully terminated. Any
surplus lengths passed will overwrite existing values recorded for the endidentified.
Cable Cutting Set the cable date cut and cut attributes for all cables on the Line andCutting Schedule identified. Cables which have been cancelled, removedfrom the Stage/Work Package or which no longer have a drum assignedare excluded.
DeviceTermination
All previously unterminated cables connected to the device are marked asbeing terminated at the FROM or TO end as appropriate or fullyterminated if the other end is already terminated.
Then if all cables are now terminated and the device status < IDCOMPthen set device status to IDCOMP. Alternatively if not all cablesterminated and device status is < IDFIT then set device status to IDFIT.
