STUDENT WELFARE

Remembrance Day Today: At 11:00 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent

after more than four years continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having

inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice-suspension of fighting, in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted

to

unconditional surrender.

November 11, is also Origami Day. Sadako Sasaki 7.1.43 – 25.10.55 was a Japanese girl who was two years old when the American atomic bomb “Little

Boy” was dropped on August 6, 1945, near her home next to the Misasa Bridge in Hiroshima, Japan. Sadako is remembered through the book “Sadako and the

Thousand Paper Cranes”, her story of endeavouring to make a thousand origami

cranes before her death from leukaemia caused by radiation exposure through the atomic explosion. The crane is an international symbol of peace & to

this day is a symbol of innocent victims of war. In 1958 a statue of Sadako holding a golden crane was unveiled in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. At the foot of the statue is a plaque that reads: "This is our cry. This is our

prayer. Peace in the world."

Origami Day is all about promoting the art of paper folding and showcasing incredible creations.

Novemeber 13, 2015 - Kindness Day is about little gestures of kindness, helping others can restore a sense of humanity. Kindness Day was born when a collection of humanitarian groups came together on November 13, 1997

and made a “Declaration of Kindness”. Likewise, on Kindness Day everyone is encouraged to make a similar

declaration. Donating books, food or clothes to your local community is a great way to celebrate. However, pledging to commit just one act of kindness is no less worthwhile: Politeness, good manners, sharing & paying

compliments are all acts of kindness. However you decide to celebrate remember that the best thing about Kindness Day is that it doesn’t cost a thing,

and we get to continue it every other day…keep the good vibes rolling wherever we go! Peace & Kindness…Great attributes to build into our characters & model to our children to ensure we are building

a better world for the future.

It’s that time of year again, when we collect food to pass on to those in need over Christmas. So pop an extra tin or packet of food (eg tinned vegies, fruit etc)

in the shopping trolley next time you’re out shopping, and send it to school with your child. Each class will have a Christmas hamper box to collect donations. ALSO, Mrs Zantis is once again collecting dog and cat food for the animals in the pound. She will leave a basket outside her room for donations. Thanks for your help. Mr Berry

Students Attendance An excerpt from the Department of Education

Student Attendance in Government Schools Procedures School Attendance Policy

“5. When should parents be contacted if an explanation for absence has not been received? 5.1. Principals must ensure the school has effective measures in place to monitor and follow up student absences with parents. Parents must provide an explanation to the school within 7 days of the first day of any period of absence. 5.2. Contact with parents on the same day or following day of an absence where parents have not contacted the school is an effective strategy for supporting regular attendance of students and ensuring absences are explained within the required 7 day period. Contact can be made by means such as providing the parents with an Absentee Notice-Compulsory School Attendance, by telephone, email or SMS text message. 5.3. If the school does not receive an explanation of the absence from the parents within 7 days, the principal or delegate will take all reasonable measures to contact the parents within 2 school days after the 7 day timeframe has elapsed (if contact has not already been made). TheTelephone Interpreter Service and translated materials, including letters can be used as required when communicating with parents from language backgrounds other than English if an explanation for absence has not been received. “
