Kingston University London Library and Learning Services Bankscope Bankscope contains detailed financial information for over 29,000 public and private global banks and 35 banking and financial organisations. The financial data is provided by Fitch Solutions and each bank report contains a bal- ance sheet, an income statement and interim reports with up to 16 years of information. Each bank report also in- cludes address, contact numbers, web address, directors, specialisation, world and country rankings, auditor of the statement, and a history of the bank. Bankscope has 3 years of information available per bank for stock price infor- mation. The database is updated daily. Most results can be exported for analysis, but there are some exceptions such as Bank ratings. To access Bankscope sign in to iCat, go to Database List and then B, where Bankscope is listed. Click on Bankscope. If requested, choose Institutional Login. From here, choose UK Access Management Federation and select Kingston University from the drop-down menu. You may be taken to a Kingston University login screen. If so, use your normal Kingston login. Searching for a bank Select Bank name in Grouped View of Search Type in a word in the text box. You may prefer to tick Match on whole words only. Click Search and a list of bank names matching the text will appear. Tick the bank required. Click OK and View list of results Search also by a pre- determined list of subjects in Alphabetical List or by key- word in Find a criterion To find a list of banks in a particular country or region, choose Location in Grouped View of Search> World Re- gion/Country> OK> View list of results. Next to each bank there is a summary of assets, latest account date and rankings by country and world On this page, to the left of the name of the bank, you can also view a snapshot of the bank and view its peer group. On the right hand side there is a breakdown of the country the bank operates from, the general accounting standards used and the total assets at the last accounting date

    Bankscope

    Searching for a bank

    Select Bank name in Grouped View of Search

    Type in a word in the text box. You may prefer to tick Match on whole words only. Click Search and a list of bank names matching the text will appear. Tick the bank required. Click OK and View list of results

    Search also by a pre-determined list of subjects in Alphabetical List or by key-word in Find a criterion

    To find a list of banks in a particular country or region, choose Location in Grouped View of Search> World Re-gion/Country> OK> View list of results. Next to each bank there is a summary of assets, latest account date and rankings by country and world

  • When you have brought up the report of a bank, use the table on the right hand side to dis-play a specific section of the banks financials, including balance sheet, income statement, ratios and share price data.

    Some headings, such as News & deals and Original documents are not available on the universitys subscription to Bankscope. Use Fame to download original documents for Brit-ish and Irish banks. Use Thomson ONE.com for mergers and acquisitions of listed banks.

    Doing a peer report

    You can also do a peer report either in table or chart format.

    Accessing older data from Bankscope (up to 16 years)

    Bankscope normally displays 8 years of data, but you can change the settings so that up to 16 years if the data is available.

    Search for a bank (see previous page). Scroll down to Global summary and click on Layout. On the next window deselect the current options by clicking the box circled. Choosing Absolute periods or Relative periods, tick all the boxes you wish to view. Change the currency if required. Click on OK.

    Referencing

    The company providing the database is Bureau van Dijk. When citing the source, reference it as Bankscope, pub-lished by Bureau van Dijk. The product name is written in title case, not uppercase.

    Help files can be browsed and searched by clicking on Help on the top navigator bar. The link will take you to the user guide where you can use the table of contents or to do a search. Help is also available by clicking the question mark symbol next to headings.
