specific trends seen in Tennessee. Dismuke will discuss the likelihood of a change in the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy and what needs to materialize before that can occur. Finally, the economic trends will be tied back to their relevance for bankers today.

10:30 am Tennessee Housing Market Update Edsel Charles, Founder and Chairman of the Board, MarketGraphics Research Group, Inc, Franklin, TN

Charles will provide an overview of residential construction across the state, as well as a housing forecast for 2011-2014. He also will assess the impact of the recession on appraisals and the effect (or lack thereof) of the federal government’s economic stimulus package.

Convention SpeakersEdsel Charles is the founder and chairman of the board for Mar-ketGraphics Research Group, Inc, a new-home market research company. After building over $100,000,000 new single-family homes during the late 70s and 80s, Charles started Mar-

ketGraphics in 1988. The company has grown to be one of the largest new-home research companies of its type in the United States. MarketGraphics clients include builders, developers, banks, utility companies, realtors, appraisers, and city governments.

Research services are provided throughout the South-east, as well as in Kansas, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, Ari-zona, Indiana, Nebraska, Minnesota, and New Mexico. Additionally, MarketGraphics has conducted research in Atlanta, Austin, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, and Palm Springs.

MarketGraphics currently gathers housing, em-ployment, and economic data in 21 states with audits encompassing approximately 13.5 percent of all the housing starts in the nation, 24,000 subdivisions, and 2,500,000 homes and lots.

In addition to being a consultant to six of the top ten builders in the United States, Charles has received a na-tional marketing award from Professional Builder Maga-zine, the Gold National Award for Marketing for the Parade of Homes, the Builder of the Year Award, as well as top development awards. He is the past president of the Middle Tennessee Home Builders Association and a 22-year member of the National Association of Home Builders board of directors, currently as a senior life na-tional director. Also, Charles is a past national trust-ee for the Elite Sales & Marketing Council of NAHB (called the Institute of Residential Marketing).

Charles speaks for different Home Builders Associa-tions across the United States, as well as the National Association of Home Builders Conference, the TMA Mid-America Regional Conference, city/state leadership and planning organizations, the Economics Department for Middle Tennessee State University, and other organi-zations. Additionally, he has served as an expert witness for the City of Nashville, TN, and other court cases.

Besides a three-year national trustee for the National Sales and Marketing Council (NSMC), he is a member of the Institute of Residential Marketing (MIRM), the Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI), and has his State of Tennessee real estate broker’s license.

Craig Dismuke is a senior vice president and chief economic strate-gist for Vining Sparks IBG, LP. Ad-vising portfolio managers ranging from some of the largest foreign banks to some of the smallest domestic com-munity banks, he evaluates economic

developments and fixed-income sector performance to identify risks and opportunities within the US market. Dismuke puublishes research articles for Vining Sparks as well as other national publications. He is also a fre-quent speaker at investment and industry conferences on the health of and expectations for the US economy. Prior to joining ICBA Securities, he was a managing di-rector in institutional fixed income at Bear Stearns and Company.

James D. MacPhee is chair-man of the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) and chief executive officer of Kalamazoo County State Bank in Schoolcraft, MI. He has served as ICBA chairman-elect and vice chairman. He is a member of the

ICBA Executive Committee and chairman of the Strate-gic Planning Committee, and he serves on the Nominat-ing and Policy Development committees. He has served on most ICBA standing committees, including serving as the chairman of Congressional Affairs and Member-ship/Marketing committees, vice chairman of ICBPAC, as director-at-large on the Executive Committee, and he represented the state of Michigan on the ICBA board of directors.

MacPhee is a past president and currently serves as a director for the Michigan Association of Community Bankers, a position he has held for more than 25 years. He also is chairman of the board of the Michigan As-sociation of Community Bankers Service Company. He has had an active career in community banking as CEO for nearly 19 of the 38 years he has been with Kalama-zoo County State Bank. He is a member of the board of directors of First State Bank in Decatur, MI, and a member of the board of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis.

MacPhee has an executive MBA in banking from the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business. He is also a US Army veteran, having served from 1966 to 1968.

Hotel InformationThe Hilton Nashville Downtown, 121 Fourth Avenue South, is head-quarters for the convention. Conveniently located in the heart of the en-tertainment district, it is adjacent to the Bridgestone Arena, the Nashville Convention Center, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The Hilton is holding a block of rooms on a first-come, first-served basis at a special group rate of $179 single/double occupancy.

The deadline for making reservations is Monday, October 6, 2010. When the allotted room block is sold out, room rates return to stan-dard prices on a space-available basis, even if it is before the October 6 deadline. After October 6, the block will be released to the general public, and rates return to standard prices on a space-available basis.

To make reservations, contact the hotel locally at 615/620-2150 and ask for the Tennessee Bankers Association Independent Bankers Division Convention block of rooms for this special group rate. Hotel check-in is 3:00 pm.

Parking is available in the garage adjacent to the hotel. Current parking rates apply. Valet parking is also available.

Convention Fees

Fee covers the reception on Tuesday evening, handout materials, and continental breakfast and refreshment breaks on Wednesday. Please register early. At-the-door registrants will be assessed an additional $25 late registration fee.

No written confirmation of seminar registration will be sent from the TBA.

Participation in TBA programs is limited to members, associate members, and nonmembers from an eligible membership category at applicable member or nonmember rates.

Continuing Education CreditAttendants qualify for 3 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit in the area of Business Management and Organization. No prerequisites are required for this program.

General InformationAttire: Business casual attire is appropriate for all TBA programs. Because of temperature variations in meeting rooms, please bring a sweater or jacket for your comfort.

Special Needs: If you have a disability that may affect your participa-tion in this program, please send TBA a statement regarding any special needs at least 10 days before the program. We will contact you to discuss accommodations.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received in the TBA office 7 busi-ness days prior to the scheduled program will be refunded in full. Due to commitments with hotels, cancellations received less than 7 business days prior to the scheduled program are not refundable. Substitutions are welcome. Registrants who do not attend the program or send a substitute will be responsible for the entire registration fee.

Inclement Weather Policy: Cancellations due to inclement weather are refundable, minus a late cancellation fee of $50 for a one-day program and $75 for a two-day program. If you have questions concerning the status of a TBA program due to inclement weather, please call the TBA office at 615/244-4871 or 800/964-5525, x150. The TBA number will provide in-formation concerning program status, cancellation fee, and refund requests. You may call the site where the program is being held to check the status of the program.
