Welcome to Season 2021/22 Ben Pope

On behalf of the Bancoora General Committee, we very warmly welcome you to season 2021/22. As we emerge from a very challenging time, we hope that you are as excited as we are to be back down at the club.

We have prepared the following information to guide you through the things you need to do to join us for the season. We ask that you take the time to go through this booklet carefully.

Importantly, we do need all members to be vaccinated and when at the club, follow all the COVID safe measures we have put in place. It is up to every member of our community to do their part in the fight against COVID.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the General Committee from last season for all of their work and congratulate this season’s committee members on their appointments at the recent Annual General Meeting.

That’s all from me for now, but I will be around the club this season and am really looking forward to seeing you all back too!

COVID-19 Essential Information

What is LSV’s current position on COVID-19 vaccinations?

Due to the diverse nature of our organisation and the many services and activities we facilitate, this means LSV members, employees, industry and community partners, contractors and visitors will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by 26 October 2021 to be able to attend an LSV or club facility, deliver an LSV or club service in person, or participate in an LSV or club activity in person, in order to comply with the roadmap.

This extends from our emergency services role to our community sports and recreational activities, and to the training and customer service areas of our operations.

This decision has been made based on public health advice and a comprehensive assessment of our organisation. Critically, it is aligned with the Victorian Government’s roadmap to reopening. Exemptions will apply as per the Chief Health Officer directions and we will support those with a valid exemption to continue to participate in lifesaving in a safe, inclusive way.

The safety and wellbeing of our people and our communities is our highest priority, and we have a duty of care to positively contribute to the pandemic response. This includes taking reasonable steps to avoid harm related to COVID-19 to our members, volunteers, employees and the community, and in particular, any vulnerable members of the communities we work with and serve.

In order to comply with the latest Victorian Government roadmap, members, employees, industry and community partners, contractors and visitors need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 from 26 October 2021 to be able to:

• attend an LSV or club facility including Bancoora SLSC;

• deliver an LSV or club service in person;

• participate in an LSV or club activity in person including nippers/young guns/training courses/club events at Bancoora SLSC.

This applies to everyone aged 12 and over. All members in this age group will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to having membership

approved. This guide will cover instructions on how to complete the LSV Vaccination Status (VacStatus) Form for members, and other relevant personnel which must be completed as a requirement of Membership

LSV Vaccination Status Form

User-guide-LSV-Vac-Stat-form-21102021.pdf

Further updates and information will be provided during the season to meet Chief Health Officer and LSV requirements. Bancoora SLSC will be compliant with all directives and will keep members posted.

Nippers and Young Guns Program Information Craig Sherman

WORKING WITH CHILDRENS CHECK (WWCC):

All parents and guardians of children participating in nippers and anyone helping out, requires a WWCC. The club requires a copy of your current WWCC.

If you do not have a WWCC, you need to apply for one before the season begins. Please note, once you have filled out the online form you have to take a copy of this with a passport photo to the post office for verification. You have to make an appointment at the post office. It takes 2 weeks to get the WWCC card. Get organized NOW.

See the club website for details http://www.bancoora.asn.au/

AIM:

Bancoora’s mozzie & Nipper programs are all about fun and aims to teach the children about beach safety and give them some basic surf lifesaving skills. It is the start of your child’s journey to becoming a patrolling member down the track.

The start of the season is only a few months away and preparations for the season are well underway. To ensure the program runs smoothly, we need parents to help run the Nippers program and be organised.

Your Help is Essential

Nippers is run entirely by volunteers and this season we will need more volunteers than previously to ensure the safe delivery of the Nippers Program. The program is run by parents of Nippers. Parents cannot ‘drop and go’ or hang about on the beach doing nothing. As a parent and member of the club it is important you are present and contribute during the program. Emergency, injury or fright can happen very quickly and you need to be on hand to help.

Bancoora SLSC is a small club and needs ALL members to pitch in and get things done. To ensure this season is as successful as can be, we need your help. It is a great example to your children and they love having their parents involved. Don’t leave it to someone else.

We are currently looking for volunteers to fill the following positions:

• COVIDSafeNipper Officer(S) • Water safety Coordinator

• Water safety officers with a current surf lifesaving bronze medallion x 15 (Ratio 1:5)

• Age group managers (2 per age group)

• Board activity leader • Swim activity leader

• Wade activity leader • Flags activity leader

• Education activity leader • Beach Activities leader

• Mozzies Coordinator • BBQ Coordinator

• Time keeper

If you are willing to take on any of the above positions, email Craig Sherman ([email protected]) ASAP so you can take on the job most suited to you.

Please note that parents do not need any water safety training (e.g. Bronze medallion) to be an age group manager, the flags and beach activity leader, Mozzies coordinator, BBQ coordinator, or the time keeper. For those wanting to provide help with water safety, a bronze medallion certificate is required and which can be done at the start of the season.

If you can do the same job all season that is great but if you cannot please specify what you can do. A volunteer roster will be on the notice board each week. The Nippers Program will be of better quality if the coordinator and Committee can focus on the children and not chase volunteers each week.

Some other ways in which parents can assist the smooth operation of nippers include:

• Being on hand to offer encouragement for your child, or with towels, goggles, sunscreen, wetsuits, warm clothes etc.

• Assisting Age Managers setting up an activity. Keep your age manager informed of any issues affecting your child. We will not force your child to participate if they don’t want to, however we are always encouraging children to give everything a go.

• Carrying equipment such as boards to the beach or back to the club rooms

• Getting your child in the water outside of nippers sessions to practice their skills.

All help is appreciated. Everyone has different levels of capacity to help and we appreciate even the smallest of assistance.

Page 12: Bancoora Surf Life Saving Club Inc

A Request from Us …

If your child is disrupting the group, please step in and assist the age manager where required.

This makes the whole experience much more enjoyable for everyone.
