  • Experts agree that in order for your baby to get a comfortable and safe night’s sleep, it’s important to ensure the baby doesn’t get too hot during the night. In fact, studies conducted in Australia have shown that increased temperature can have a signifi-cant effect on babies, including increasing

respiratory and heart rates, depressing baby’s arousal responses and reducing the autonomic control of their heart rate. Below we look at tips for reducing risks associated with increased temperature and helping baby to sleep comfortably.

    Bambi Baby

    • Where possible, always try to sleep

    baby on their back.

    • Try not to cover your baby’s head

while they are asleep. Avoid hats,

hoods, beanies and other forms of

    head coverings.

    • Always choose light bedding for

    baby, avoiding heavy blankets

    where possible.

    • Dress your baby using layers so

they are neither too hot or too cold.

To check, feel baby’s tummy or

    back. In ideal circumstances, this

    should feel comfortably warm to

    the touch.

    • Never use electric blankets, wheat

bags or hot water bottles for

    babies.

    • Try to use only natural, breathable

    fibres for baby’s bedding.

  • At Bambi we know everyone makes different life-style choices and has different budgets, which is why Bambi offer a number of natural options in our baby products. Fibres you can choose from include:

    • Natural Australian Cotton • Pure New Wool • Tencel • Ingeo™ • Cotton/Bamboo

Importantly, all of the fibres Bambi use are clean, natural, sustainable and renewable. As well as being healthful for baby, they are also very easy care for mum and dad. All of Bambi’s baby products, including our wool products, can be machine washed and tumble dried and many carry the Asthma Founda-tion’s ‘Sensitive Choice Seal of Approval’.

WHY CHOOSE BAMBI BEDDING FOR YOUR BABY? Here at Bambi we have been creating quality, natural, healthful bedding for Australians for nearly 35 years. With our baby range we have spent many years sourcing the best, most breathable, natural fibres available, and then have handcrafted these into beautiful products which will have your baby sleeping in pure, healthful luxury.

  • COTTON

OUR FIBRES…. All of our fibres have very different characteristics. Here we take a look at

which is best for your baby (and your budget).

COTTON is used commonly across the globe for bedding. It is a natural fibre that ’s soft and strong,

getting its strength from spinning the fibre into yarn and

then weaving the yarn into fabric. It is soft, has good insula-

tion properties and absorbs moisture reasonably well. In

comparison with some other bedding fibres, cotton can be

fairly inexpensive. However, it is important to note that the

quality of cotton differs enormously. Variables in cotton

production include the country of origin (Australian cotton

for example is a much cleaner, better product than cotton

grown in some other locations); the species and quality of

the source cotton; the yarning technique and the finishing

materials. The most common misconception with cotton is

that the higher the thread count, the higher the quality.

Unfortunately thread count is not a measure of quality, and,

believe it or not, thread count itself only contributes to 10%

of a finished bedding product. Bambi’s cotton baby products

are all made with pure, clean Australian cotton and are

    handcrafted with beautiful finishes.

    Baby Whisperer.

  • OUR FIBRES….

All of our fibres have very different characteristics. Below we take a look at

which is best for your baby (and your budget).

Wool has been described as a ‘miracle fibre’… and with very good reason. To date, try as

they might, scientists have been unable to produce a single fibre to match the incredible

properties of wool. Wool is resilient, warm, a natural insulator and easy to care for.

However, the most unique quality of wool is its ability to create its own ‘microclimate’. This

microclimate helps to regulate body temperature and humidity by transmitting our perspi-

ration from a liquid form to a vapour, allowing us to be free from thermal stress and thereby

to sleep more restfully and comfortably.

    beautiful WOOL

D ID YOU KNOW? Bambi also only use the highest quality Australian long staple wool from the back of

    the sheep. Our wool lofts

beautifully and retains its ability to

recover loft even after repeated washes.

We are proud to say our products can be

machine washed and tumbled dried without

the wool forming into heavy clumps or feel-

ing clammy or damp. Bambi’s baby range

of wool quilts and woollen underblankets

come with a 5 year product guarantee.

  • OUR FIBRES….

All of our fibres have very different characteristics. Below we take a look at

which is best for your baby (and your budget).

    beautiful WOOL

Is WOOL suitable for all year

round? The simple answer to this is

yes. Whilst there’s a common miscon-

ception that wool is best suited for

    providing warmth in cold conditions,

because of wool’s myriad of tiny pores

that allow access for water vapour,

instead of making us hot and clammy in

summer, wool actually keeps us cool and

    comfortable, meaning your baby’s quilt

or underblanket can safely be used all

    year round.

Will the quilt feel too heavy for my baby? Absolutely not. Because of the

millions of pockets of trapped air in wool fibres, good quality woollen quilts give you

amazing warmth without weight. In addition, wool never feels damp or heavy like other

fibres can. This is because while we all lose almost half a litre of fluid a night in the form of

perspiration, wool dissipates this moisture, allowing the fibre to stay dry and cool all night

long. Also, because of the natural resilience of wool, the pile on Bambi ’s woollen underlay

will help diffuse pressure points and cushion baby ’s body.

WHAT ARE THE OTHER BENEFITS OF

    WOOL?

    • Wool is naturally water-resistant, repelling

moisture vapour through its fibres and

making it resistant to rot, mould and

    mildew.

    • Wool’s unique structure means that it won’t

allow the build-up of body odours.

    • One of the most significant aspects of wool

bedding is that wool is naturally resistant to

ignition and is a self-extinguishing fibre,

making it incredibly safe for babies, toddlers

    and children.

  • OUR FIBRES….

All of our fibres have very different characteristics. Below we take a look at

which is best for your baby (and your budget).

TENCEL® is another great choice when considering your bedding for baby. TENCEL® is an award-winning ‘new-age’ fibre which is pure botanic. Made from natural wood cellulose, it originates from the aromatic pulp of sustainably-harvested eucalyptus trees.

TENCEL® is a remarkable environmental achievement: It is derived from a renewable and sustainable raw material, it is manufactured sustainably and it is fully biodegradable, making it a ‘full-cycle’ fibre.

    incredible

    TENCEL®

    THE SOURCE: EUCALYPTUS TREES

Eucalyptus trees are unique in that they grow very quickly and without any artificial irrigation, pesticides, fertilizers or gene manipulation. They also have the added advantage that they are able to grow on marginal land (i.e. land that cannot be used for food crops or farming).

Incredibly, the fibre yield per acre from the trees used for TENCEL® is up to ten times higher than that of cotton, and the cultivation process for TENCEL® uses 10-20 times less water than cotton.

    The process: Earth Friendly

The revolutionary aspect of the manufacturing of TENCEL® is the recovery and reuse of up to 99.8% of the solvent (which is non-acidic, non-toxic and has been proven to be harm-less in dermatological and toxicological tests). The few remaining emissions are broken down in biological water treatment plants.

    D id you know?

    All of Bambi’s TENCEL®

    products carry the

    Sensitive Choice Seal of

    Approval from the

    National Asthma

    Foundation.

    OUR FIBRES….

All of our fibres have very different characteristics. Below we take a look at

which is best for your baby (and your budget).

TENCEL®: The Benefits Everyone can benefit from sleeping on TENCEL®, but especially babies, toddlers and children. Here we take a look at what makes this fibre so unique and so popular with new parents:

NO BLEACH: Unlike the production of many other fibres, bleach is not used in the TENCEL® process.

MOISTURE-WICKING: Nanofibrils are the key to the performance of TENCEL®. These nanofibrils are hydrophilic, meaning they have a strong attraction to absorb water (in fact TENCEL® wicks 50% more moisture than cotton) plus they have excellent cooling properties. The importance of this is that, while we sleep our bodies release up to a litre of water every night—summer or winter. Instead of this moisture going into our bedding, TENCEL® absorbs the moisture and then wicks it away from the body, leaving the bedding cool, dry and comfortable.

ANTI-BACTERIAL: Because of the tremendous capacity of TENCEL® to absorb and dispel moisture, bacteria, which love a moist environment, find it virtually impossible to grow. As displayed below, the growth of bacteria on cotton is approximately 200 times more than on TENCEL®. On synthetic fibres, the increase in bacteria is up to 2,000 times greater.

    OUR FIBRES….

All of our fibres have very different characteristics. Below we take a look at

which is best for your baby (and your budget).

    TENCEL®: The Benefits

SILKY SMOOTH: Because TENCEL® has controllable fibrillation (very fine hairs found on the outer fibres), the fabric has an incredibly silky-smooth finish and gives a natural cooling sensation to the skin. The photographs below illustrate the differences between TENCEL®, cotton and wool fibres. While cotton has an irregular, rough surface, TENCEL® is smooth and supple, meaning that the material will drape like silk… and feel like heaven.

EASY CARE: Because it is 100% natural, TENCEL® is soft, supple, durable and flexible. Bambi’s TENCEL® bedding products are odourless, pre-shrunk, and easy care (simply machine wash and tumble dry on low heat). When washing, there’s no need for fabric softener or whitening agents. Independent measurements of softness show that TENCEL® fibers are twice as soft as cotton.

    TENCEL®:

    • Gives a natural, cool sensation

    • Provides excellent moisture absorption

    • Is naturally anti-allergy

    • Prevents the formation of bacteria

    • Is gentle to the skin

    • Is lightweight & breathable

    • Luxurious to the touch

    • Eco-friendly & biodegradable

    • Can be grown on marginal land

    • Has sensuous drape

    • Uses no pesticides in cultivation

    • Is durable & easy-care

    • Dry, cool and smooth
