The new season is almost
here, after all the trails,
training session, friendly's and
tournaments it nearly time for
the real thing, the 11 a side
season kicks of on the
weekend of 27th/28th August
while the small sided games
will begin in September. After
a good year within the club
last season we will be hoping
everyone can push on the
maybe we can look forward
to another successful season.
The Under 17’s travelled north to Derry at the end
of July to play in the Foyle Cup. They opened their
1st group game with a 2-2 draw against the
Limerick and Desmond League, in their 2nd game
they beat Limavady United 4-0 and finished their
group games by beating Shankill Juniors 3-1 to
finish 2nd in their group, It was on to the 1/4 finals
were they were drawn to play tournament
favorites English side QPR. The lads put in a super
display and ran out 3-0 winners shocking the big
guns and making headline news in the tabloids up
north. It was on to the semi finals now but sadly
they had no luck here and all their had work
against QPR caught up with them and they were
beaten by the Waterford Schoolboys League,
they still had to play St. Kevin's Boys in the 3rd v
4th playoff place but after a long week and with
lads carrying a few knocks they lost out here. The
lads had done themselves proud and acquitted
themselves well throughout the tournament. Well
done to all involved.
Under 17’s Foyle Cup
Over each teams next few
training sessions all players
will be given a Sponsor
Card for a Sponsored
Football Marathon/Walk,
the purpose of this is to help
ease the burden on parents
with the payment of fees.
Fees for this season will
remain at €120 for the
season or the option to pay
€200 which will mean you
will also receive the child’s
gear. What ever is collected
on each players sponsor
card will be paid of their
fees, (i.e.) if they collect
€120 then fees are paid in
full or if they collect €70
then this comes off their fees
and you will only have to
pay what is outstanding. Any
questions contact the club.

After nearly 4 months of work and a long
time waiting the new pitch is finally open
for business. Over the last few weeks
everyone had played matches or trained
on the pitch. We would ask all managers
parents and players to please abide by
all the rules and regulations for the pitch.
No food or hot drinks will be permitted
on the pitch, moulded studs or rubber
blades must be used, steel studs are not
permitted to be used. We would also ask
all parents to please refrain from
entering the field during games. All
parents can watch the game from the
grass bank on the far side of pitch. Only
players, managers and coaches are to
enter field during games.
New Pitch Open
Goalkeeper training has now
commenced for 11 a side keepers.
Training is on a Tuesday night and starts
at 7.00pm, keepers are asked to be
there and ready to go at this time. Over
the next few weeks Stephen will also be
starting training for the smaller keepers.
It is up to all managers to ensure their
keeper attends training even if it means
maybe missing training with their own
team. The benefits of the goal keeper
training have already shown for a few
teams. Any questions on the
goalkeeping you can contact Stephen

Pre season tournaments
Numerous teams from the club have taken part in various pre season tournaments based in and around the Dublin area. It all started with the Umbro Dublin Cup which was played in the AUL over the back holiday weekend. The U18’s, U17’s and U16’s all took part in this and each team gave a good account of themselves performing well against teams who are playing in the top leagues. Then it was on to our own club pre season tournament. This is for Under 12’s and it helps to introduce them to 11 a side football. This is run every year with teams from all over Dublin and Wicklow taking part. It was won this year by Knocklyon United who beat Lourdes Celtic in what was a great final, Our U12’s lost in the semi final but can be pleased with their displays on the big pitch, it will help them as they begin their 1st year at 11 a side. The Under 18’s also took part in Park Celtic’s tournament and came away as runners up. This was played on a league basis and they were very unlucky in this, having gained confidence from playing good sides in the Umbro Cup they could maybe have won it. They started on Saturday with a 3-3 draw against favourites Shelbourne and then were unlucky to lose 2-0 to St. Patricks Athletic. On Sunday they were back again and after beating Park Celtic it came down to the game against Ardmore, with Shelbourne already claiming the title this would decide 2nd place, the game ended all square and was decided by a penalty shootout, both teams scored their 1st penalty and them Lee saved Park Celtics next, Ballybrack then missed before both teams scored their next penalties, Lee then saved again and it was left to Andy Gill to score the winning penalty and the lads took 2nd place, well done lads. These results will give all the teams huge confidence going into the new season.
