Lindy Chester Sports Co-ordinator BHPS Instrumental Programs – Register to Join We would like to invite students in Years 3 – 6 to join our excellent band program. Being a member of large team like a band is an enjoyable, social experience, benefiting children in many ways. There is also compelling evidence for how playing an instrument benefits brain development. You may wish to view this short video which explains the long-term positive effects on the brain. Please register your interest by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. String Ensemble – Years 3 – 6 Expressions of interest If you play a string instrument and would like to know more about joining our String Ensemble please contact us via [email protected]. Dust off your running shoes - the Bally Bolt is coming! The Bally Bolt is going to be bigger and better than ever this year! This popular community fun run is coming to a street near you on Sunday 17 March 2019. Early Bird registrations open this Friday 1 February - watch this space for more info in next week’s newsletter.

We are looking for volunteers to help us with making this awesome community event happen - any time you can spare would be helpful. Please email Diana to find out more.

Review of BHPS Stationery-Ordering Process The school and the P&C appreciate the feedback from the community about suggested improvements/changes to the stationery-ordering process. So we are happy to say that the school has agreed to a P&C - led review to see how it can be improved. The review will take into account the cost, inclusion of the right tools for learning and the opportunities for reuse, recycling or donations to reduce waste. The P&C will be driving this process improvement review so we really encourage and welcome feedback and suggestions from parents. The best way to share your ideas is by attending P&C meetings, but if that is not possible, please email your suggestions to Gabrielle at [email protected]. New to the school and want to make sure you don’t miss out on all the P&C comms? Please make sure you sign up for Skoolbag and also send an email to Alison at [email protected] and we’ll make sure you are on your class mailing list to receive the ‘In the Loop’ weekly email P&C Newsletter. Welcome to all our parents, to another healthy eating year at BHPS canteen. We will continue the excellent work started by Gill and Tess to provide your children with healthy snack and lunch options. Head on over to Flexischools and take a look at the changes to the menu, especially the new offerings – e.g. toasted wraps are now available, as well as chicken pesto – yum! As we move towards the NSW Department of Education “Healthy Canteen Food and Drink Criteria” we’ve had to limit some offerings. Sushi, for example, will be offered 3 days a week, but our sushi menu has expanded. The kids will love the edamame and inari! We are also very conscious of the amount of waste that is produced at school, so we will be looking at ways of minimising the canteen’s environmental impact (more on this later in the year). For now, we will be trialling the use of re-usable cups for rice, milo drinks, grapes, and the like. We will use a “$1 deposit-scheme” where $1 will be added to the item’s price, and returned to the child when they return their cup to the canteen. To help us with this initiative, we ask that you please give your child the extra $1 they’ll need to use the cups. To aid in the operation of the canteen, the Flexischools order cut-off time will be changed from 9am to 8.45am commencing from Week 3 (Monday 11 February). If you miss this cut-off time, relax, there will still be a late lunch order option (up to 10.30am). If, by some terrible error in organisation, you forget your child’s lunch completely (it happens to us all at one time or another), don’t worry, your child will receive his/her choice of a vegemite, honey or cheese sandwich and a piece of fruit, and you will receive an invoice from us kindly asking for payment. Remember to update your child’s class on Flexischools, as soon as possible so that lunch is delivered to the right class. Finally, as always, you are invited to volunteer in the canteen any day or time that suits you. You will be welcomed with a smile and much gratitude, and your child/ren will love you for it too! Head over to: http://signup.com/go/yaQUgsw to sign up. Sanja Vidaic and Kathrine Baulderstone Canteen Managers
