BALDWIN STREET MIDDLE SCHOOL November 11, 2016 e-Banner Newsletter Our 8th grader English and history students have been wrestling with the question, "How can your perspective persuade a change in government?" After choosing a topic of personal interest, students researched an issue or law which they would like to see changed. The end product will be a persuasive letter written to someone at the local, state, or federal level of government to share their research-based opinions. This past Thursday, students were able to present an outline of their claim, evidence, and reasoning to several community members in what was called a Gallery Feedback Walk. We invited dozens of government experts -- school board members, attorneys, members of law enforcement, and local government officials -- into our building to meet with our 8th graders one-on-one to press their thinking regarding their initial evidence and research. Our students were up to the task, and benefited immensely from this challenging process. Students will now be making final revisions based on the feedback they received in preparation to write their letters, which will be completed by the end of the trimester. We would like to thank everyone who was able to participate in our 8th grade Gallery Feedback Walk for providing this valuable real-world opportunity for our students.
