TOPIC: A STUDY ON PRODUCTIVITY CHALLENGES FACED IN OPERATION ENVIRONMENT AT LAFARGE AGGREGATES & CONCRETE INDIA PVT LTD. PROBLEM DEFINITION: To understand the state of Cement manufacturing in our country is becoming much more challenging. Severe competitive pressures and costly restructurings are partly offset by some positive signs of renewed growth, due in no small part to ongoing product and process innovations with a set of circumstances currently impacting the industry and Lafarge faces severe competitive challenges and are undergoing difficult restructuring as they struggle to bring their capacity and workforce into line with their diminished market shares. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY Main Objectives: To identify the productivity challenges confronting operations management in Lafarge cement. Secondary Objectives: To understand the growth trend in cement manufacturing company like lafarge. To understand the factors influential in labor productivity and to identify productivity performance in Lafarge Cement.

PROBLEM DEFINITION:

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

Main Objectives:

To identify the productivity challenges confronting operations management in

Lafarge cement.

Secondary Objectives:

To understand the growth trend in cement manufacturing company like lafarge.

To understand the factors influential in labor productivity and to identify productivity

performance in Lafarge Cement.

To understand government interventions and regulations involved.

Scope

a) This research work will find out the productivity challenges in the Cement

Industry in India.

b) The study will follow the production management in Lafarge Cement.

The report will deliberately reveal the difficulties in production management.

Detailed Research Methodology

The research methodologies to attain the objective of Project are:

I. Primary Data will be collected by preparing a set of questionnaires and getting the

feedback from employees and experts in Lafarge cement. The sampling would be

done with

a) Production Managers

b) HR Managers

c) Quality Managers

d) Supervisors

II. Secondary Data will be collected through materials available on internet

Sampling Segment

A structured questionnaire will be set after integrating the information collected through

lead survey. The primary data was collected throughout questionnaires. Formal and informal

interviews with the Production Managers, HR Managers, Quality Managers and supervisors

within the companies have produced enough information to understand the productivity

challenges. The secondary data will be collected through internet where company information

obtained from the sites and theories from various marketing books.

Lafarge currently has four cement plants in India: two integrated plants in the state of Chhattisgarh, one grinding station each in Jharkhand & West Bengal. Total cement production capacity of Lafarge in the Indian market currently stands at around 6.5 million tons. Lafarge India produces different type’s cements like Portland Slag Cement, Portland Pozzolana Cement. Lafarge Cement is famous all over the world for its premium quality and has been used to build many landmark buildings, structures globally. The company is a leading cement player in Eastern India. Its brands Lafarge Cement and Lafarge Concreto Cement enjoy high brand equity here and are amongst the highest priced brands. Lafarge is committed to the Indian market and has firm plans to expand its capacity in India.

Lafarge cement is available through a large dealer network, throughout eastern India- in the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Orissa and North-East States. Lafarge Cement is also available in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra (Vidarbha region), Part of Uttar pradesh , Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu in Vanagaram.
