Your union took the decision to esclate beyond 24-hour strikes as management’s continued intransigence shows that increased pressure is necessary. Splitting the strikes across two 24-hour periods ensures the maximum impact. Management has offered no significant concessions on any of our key demands: increased staffing levels, guarantees to protect work/life balance, workable rosters with no imposed increases in weekend or night working, and more. Our strikes are not mere protests, we are fighting to win. Until management make real concessions on these issues, our strikes will continue. Why is workers payalways compared tothat of otherworkers, rather thanfat cat bosses?

Whenever westrike, oursalaries aresplashed allover themedia, evenwhen thestrikes are notprincipallyabout pay.

Our wages are compared tolower-paid workers such asnurses or shop workers - but isthat the right comparison? Ratherthan comparing workers wagesto each other, with theimplication that the wages of therelatively well-paid should comedown, shouldnt we be arguingfor a levelling up? Dont all

workers deserve the pay andconditions weve got?And why are workers wagesso rarely compared to those ofour bosses? The really scandalousdifferential is the yawning gap inevery industry between frontlinestaff and senior managers.LU has bundled our paysettlement into the currentnegotiations; RMT is demanding aflat-rate pay increase in line withincreases in the cost of living.And if LU wants to save somemoney so it can hire morefrontline staff, why not trim atthe top?

Were fairly sure Messrs.Brown, Brown, and Griffithscould make do with a little less.
