Dear Editor,I believe the reason why many teenagers run away from home is because they
dislike their home environment. Parents who are busy earning a living do nothave the time to monitor their children. They think that their parents do not loveand care for them. They will then turn to outsiders for comfort. Some might be
cheated by these strangers and even leave home.

Question s 26 - 3l are based on the following passage.
1 In 1989, fresh out of school, I had the intimidating task of choosing i r*r", pathbefore coll.ege started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limitedoptions: to be a doctor or an engineer, or enter the corporate world after getting a business
F degree. I couldn't decide between medicine and business. My uncle suggested that I trywork placement to gain experience for a month in a multi-national company followed bya month in a hospital. After that, I could make a decision. It seemed like a brilliant idea.
2 I was accepted for a month's observatory placement at a foreign bank in Karachi. Itagged along with the sales and marketing people and got a feel of how the world offinance functioned. I liked the profession, enjoyed the easy-going work surroundings andmade ndw friends. The month passed rapidly and soon I began my stint at a leadinghospital in Karachi. The exp.erience couldn't have been more different. The days startedearly and were filled with vratching blood samples being taken and rushing around withtlte team to the ward, intensive care and clinics. It seemed that there was always work tobe done. That v,'as not all - there wsre also the night duties, essentially a 36-hour shift. This t'ras insane, working all day, through the night and again the next day. I began tohave doubts about a career in medicine because it seemed really toug\.
3 Towards the end of my stint at the hospital, I rvas di'iving home after a hectic nightcall. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sittlng on the roof, clinging toa small metal railing. As the driver weaved througir traftic, I could see them shaking fromside to side. Suddenly, a boy tumbled off the back of the bus. He hit the road face down, bounced once and rolled over. He lay nrotionless in the nriddle cf ihe road as the bus leftat great speeci.
4 The cars directly behind the bus braked to avoid hitting tire boy, but none stopped. Ihad to stop and help. I knew that if the boy was bleeding intc his brain and did not get tohospital quickly, he coulC die. I stopped the car and carefully exarnined the boy. His facewas covered in blood as he had a large gash on his forehead and another above his rightear. I tried to apply pressure to the cuts to stem the bleeding but to no avail. With the helpof sorne bystanders, I lifted ]iis unconscious body into the back seat of my car. I junrpcdinto the car and raced back to the hospital. On reaching the emergency entrance, I shouted
"Head injury!" Paramedical staffwhisked the boy to the emergency room, while I gave aquick history to the doctor on call. As there was nothing much I could do, I drove home, exhausted and troubled. 'Ihe blood on niy back seat reminded me of my harrowingexperience.

emergency surgery to remove the blood clot and stop the bleeding. The boy, Asi[ wasnow recovering in the ward. Relieved, I went to see Asif, He was wearing a bandageround his head. There was excessive swelling around his eyes but he was conscious.
Asifs parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters were sitting around his bed. Thedoctor introduced me as "the person who saved your son's life". Everyone got up, withgrateful smiles on their faces. Asif s grandparents shook *y hands repeatedly.-With tearsin his eyes, his father hugged me tightly. Then his mother held my hands to her face andstarted weeping, "Son, you are an angel," she said repeatedly ir Urdu. After consolingher, I went over to Asif. He managed to smile and squeezed my hands.'No words werespoken - none were needed. What a feeling this was to help save the life of anotherperson! At that moment, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Natureby H.D Carberry
We have neither Summer nor Winteri N"ither Autumn nor SpringWe have instead the daysWhen the gold sun shines on the lush green canefields -MagnificientlyThe days when the rain beats like bullets on the roofsAnd there is no sound but the swish of water in the

And trees struggling in the high Jamaica winds. Also there are the days when leaves fade from off
guango trees
And the reaped canefields lie bare and fallow to the sun.
But best of all there are the days when the mango andthe logwood blossom
When the bushes are full of the sound of bees arid thescent of honey,
When the tall grass sways and shivers to the siightestbreath cf air,
When the buttercups ha','e paved the carth with yellowstars
And beauty comes suddenly and the rains have gone.
