No Cuts in Bury !
In Bury, the Con / Dem council has announced another £12 million cuts. This will mean:
- The loss of at least 240 jobs- Bins being collected fortnightly- Youth Centres to close : Shuttle Centre, Y Zone, Elton Centre, Phoenix Centre- Cuts to school transport for children with special needs- A £25 charge for cubs, scouts and guides to use public parks - The visual impairment unit in Bury Library being axed- No lollipop men or women at crossings where there are traffic lights- Closures to libraries - Closing the Longfield Centre in Prestwich- Charging Disabled people to use council car parks- Cuts to Old People’s Homes and Day Centres for adults
There is no need for these cuts. UK banks made £24 billion profits last year. We are paying for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The coalition finds the money for its favourite programs like academy schools.
The Bury Action Group, which brings together everyone fighting the cuts in Bury, is calling for action to stop these cuts.
