Badger High SchoolMathematics Department Standard Based Grading RubricAdvanced Mastery (AM) - Students must demonstrate they are able to not only get correct answers, but can show the work for the problem without error or omission of steps. Students must demonstrate they are capable of completing not only remedial skill but they also must be able to apply the concept when appropriate; advanced mastery is indicative of higher level thinking and understanding. Students must write with coherence, proper grammar, and proper punctuation. Ideas are supported with rich evidence in calculations or explanations.

Mastery (M) - Students show all steps necessary and can solve problems but not always with the correct answer. They make errors in minor mathematical calculations, do not carry down a sign, or omit a necessary step in a proof. However, the process of the problem is intact. A student is not yet able to make a clear connection to application problems which are an important part of modeling in mathematical practices. Students must write coherently with minimal grammar and punctuation errors. Ideas are supported with evidence.

Initial Mastery (IM) - Student’s work indicates they can start a problem but the steps or process is unclear. Students may be incapable of completing the problem or complete it with improper steps. Writing is slightly confusing with numerous grammar and punctuation errors. Ideas are not supported or minimally supported.

No Mastery (NM) - The student’s ability to start or complete the problem are unclear and/or numerous calculations are incorrect. Writing is incoherent with a large number of errors in grammar and punctuation. Ideas are not supported.

**Special Note: You will need to contact your current teacher for further interpretation of standards. Understanding that, objectives require different expectations and each level of math may have different (higher or lower) expectation for the individual standard being graded.
