Bad lighting, too dark as the light is coming from behind and there are no other light sources. No ‘Rule Of Three’ there would be no space for any text or info on the sides. Main subjects are slightly out of focus and there is no depth of field within the photo as there is no main central focus point. The photo comes across as quite flat and dull. Also because of the poor lighting the colours are a bit dull and faded. Mess in background obstructs image and makes the photo less clean and professional. Poor lighting as there is only one light source – results in loss of clarity and definition. No back lighting for close up means that face is not visible. Poor alignment of subjects – the subject is obscured and this makes the image messy and unprofessional. Also subject is too low down in image structure, not enough attention to model.

Mess in reflection dirties image, also obstructs the main focus of attention. Creates unnecessary cluster in the image, losing its crispness, clarity and focus.

The main subject of the image is not fully visible; this makes the image a bit pointless and defeats the purpose of establishing a setting.

Good depth of field, the foreground is in focus whilst the background remains out of focus, creating depth and distance.

Good lighting, the image is crisp and clean and there are no poorly lit areas, the light is a bit glaring but this can be easily corrected in Photoshop either with some colour correction with levels or with curves, this would be nice as I could also give it a warmer feel by giving it a slight tint.

Good positioning, the main subject is predominant in the picture, demanding attention, but still giving space to the background. Enough room for ‘rule of three’, easily enough room for text or titles.

Could have been improved by being taken in portrait rather than landscape.

Top Tips:

Make sure there is good lighting.

Make sure you have a clear subject/model.

Make sure there is no unnecessary mess or clutter.

Make sure you leave space for ‘Rule of Three’

Possibly take the photo in portrait rather than landscape; this is easier for a magazine cover.
