CILIA AND FLAGELLA FUNCTION? To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

CELL WALL

Page 5: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

CELL WALL FUNCTION? To give the cell structure and to protect it

CELL MEMBRANE

Page 7: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? To control what goes in and out of the cell

Page 8: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

LYSOSOME

Page 9: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? To digest things the cell doesn’t

want/need Old cell “parts” (organelles, etc) Intruding bacteria/viruses

Lysosomes are cellular organelles that contain acid hydrolase enzymes that break down waste materials and cellular debris. They can be described as the stomach of the cell. Lysosomes digest excess or worn-out organelles, food particles, and engulfed viruses or bacteria.

MITOCHONDRIA

Page 11: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? To give the cell ENERGY!

Takes food and turns it into a useable form of energy

RIBOSOME

Page 13: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? To make proteins…

NOT for ENERGY!!! Proteins have functions in your body…you

only use proteins you EAT for energy…NOT ones your cells make for you!

ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM (ER)

Page 15: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? To modify and package materials

NUCLEUS

Page 17: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? Houses the DNA (protects it)

DNA

Page 19: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? To tell the cell how to make proteins

correctly

CHLOROPLAST

Page 21: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? Performs photosynthesis to turn sunlight

into glucose (The mitochondria then turns that glucose into

ATP – an energy source the cell can use)

VACUOLE

Page 23: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? To store things

Water, wastes, foods

GOLGI BODY

Page 25: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? To package things for export out of the

cell When a golgi vesicle is filled with digestive

enzymes, it can make a LYSOSOME!

CYTOPLASM

Page 27: Bacteria Attacks!!. To move the cell around (flagella) Or move things around the cell (cilia)

FUNCTION? The jelly-like material all the organelles

reside in…to give the cell support Contains all the macromolecules the cell

needs
