INTRODUCTION Backupify for Microsoft Office 365 provides businesses that use Microsoft Office 365 the benefits of a data backup, long-term retention, search, and restorability for their digital assets within their Microsoft Office 365 SaaS domain. Three times each day, Backupify for Office 365 identifies the most recently added and updated data, and copies that data to an encrypted archive in Datto’s high-availability storage cloud. Backupify provides access to the data in the backups via Backupify’s web interface.

This Document: Client-Managed Domain Administration for Datto Partners

This document reviews how a Datto Partner (here, a Managed Service Provider) may provision Backupify data protection for a customer’s Microsoft Office 365 SaaS domain, and where the customer is to manage and maintain those Backupify accounts on their own. These are known as “client-managed” accounts (differences between Partner-Managed and Client-Managed are reviewed in https://kb.datto.com/hc/en-us/articles/215585243 REF5).

● Backupify clients, for client-managed accounts, have access to the Backupify admin interface. ● All Backupify resellers and Partners have access to both the Datto Partner SaaS Store and the Datto SaaS Backup Application

Management Dashboard (AMD). ● Datto categorizes Datto Partners into two groups: Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Resellers. For partner-managed

accounts: ○ Managed Service Providers do have the authority to manage their clients Backupify data. ○ Resellers have no authority to manage Backupify on behalf of their clients (Backupify customers). Resellers sell the

Backupify service but are not providers of value-add managed services.

REQUIREMENTS ● The Backupify client is requesting to protect the domain of a Microsoft Office 365 Business account. Backupify does not

backup personal Office 365 accounts. See https://kb.datto.com/hc/en-us/articles/205017350 REF2. ● An administrative account of the Microsoft Office 365 domain must be provided to the Datto Partner (for partner-managed

Backupify protection) to facilitate partner-managed administration of Backupify for Office 365. This account is an existing admin account of the domain, or (preferred) a new Office 365 admin account created for the exclusive use by the Datto Partner.

Backupify for Microsoft Office 365 protects, for each user, data within these five Office 365 applications: Mail, Contacts, Calendar, OneDrive, and SharePoint. Backupify for Office 365 Backup Schedule

The Backupify backup schedule for Office 365 is fully automated and runs three times daily, within specified windows of time, for each service. The day's first backup run occurs between 12 AM and 8 AM, the second between 8 AM and 4 PM, and the third between 4 PM and 11:59 PM (EST). The schedule is not adjustable. For more details, see https://kb.datto.com/hc/en-us/articles/205017500 REF17.

On-Demand Backups

Backupify administrators can launch a Backupify backup on-demand by hovering over the NEXT SCHEDULED BACKUP time and clicking the resulting BACKUP NOW button. Running an on-demand backup will not affect the three regularly scheduled backups.

Support for Versioning

The Backupify for Office 365 service does have support for object versioning, but this capability is off by default and enabling is not possible through the user interface (UI). By default, Backupify for Office 365 ignores all multiple updates made to a file between Backupify backup points, except the file’s state at the time of the backup. To enable versioning, open a request with Backupify engineering, starting with HELP for Backupify.

PURCHASE, AUTHORIZATION, AND BASE SETUP OF BACKUPIFY FOR OFFICE 365 PROTECTION FOR YOUR BACKUPIFY CLIENT

This procedure for acquiring and configuring Backupify for Office 365 is different for the US, Canada and APAC, and in EMEA.

This document assumes that the Backupify client and the Datto Partner are in the same geography (both in US, or both in Canada, or so on).

The steps documented here are for ordering and configuring new products. If the client already uses other Backupify products or wants to increase or decrease their current license count, you should contact your Backupify provider (for Backupify clients) or your Backupify Sales representative (for Datto Partners). Purchase, Authorization, and Base Setup for Client-Managed Backupify for Office 365 Accounts in the US

As a US-based Datto partner, you are responsible for initiating the purchase of Backupify for Office 365 for your US-based business clients, handling the quote, and accepting the added costs to your monthly expenses from Datto. Since you are providing Client-managed Backupify services, much of the final authorization and all of the user configuration will be performed by the Backupify client. Your steps in this process are outlined in this section.

1. Practice “clean browsing”. ○ Open a new Google Chrome (or other supported browser) private window before proceeding.

2. Establish a login session on the Datto Partner Portal. ○ Go to https://auth.datto.com/login or https://partners.dattobackup.com.

i. https://partners.dattobackup.com will automatically (and temporarily) redirect to https://auth.datto.com/login .

ii.

○ Enter your Datto Partner Portal credentials, then click Log In.

i.

○ This brings you back to the Datto Partner Portal.

i.

3. Enter the Datto Store. ○ Select Purchasing & Billing > Store from the menu.

i. 4. From the Datto Store, enter the Datto Partner SaaS Store.

○ The Datto Partner SaaS Store can be entered directly at http://saasstore.datto.com with your Datto Partner Portal credentials.

○ Click Backupify.

i. ○ Authentication takes a moment (shown below), and then automatically redirects into the Datto Partner SaaS Store.

i. 5. Optional: Review the Backupify Price Sheets.

○ View the price sheet by clicking View Pricing Sheets, in any of the Client configuration windows. The price sheet that will be displayed will default to the US price sheet (because the Datto Partner SaaS Store is currently the US only).

i. Backupify price sheets are also available from the Datto Partner Portal . 6. Purchase Backupify for Office 365 licenses for the Backupify client from the Datto Partner SaaS Store.

○ For the next steps: i. Use the section EXISTING BACKUPIFY CLIENT when purchasing Backupify for Office 365 for an existing

Backupify Client. Or…. i. Use the section NEW BACKUPIFY CLIENT when purchasing Backupify for Office 365 for a new Backupify

Client.

EXISTING BACKUPIFY CLIENT

1. In the SELECT CLIENT window, click on the drop down menu that says SELECT AN EXISTING CLIENT.

○ 2. Select the existing Backupify client (or customer) name from the menu. Then click CONTINUE.

○ These are names that you created for each of your Backupify customers, and the name you use is only for your reference within the Datto Partner SaaS Store and within the Datto SaaS Backup AMD . Backupify identifies customers via their domain name.

○ 3. In the SELECT PRODUCT window, we see that you as a Datto Partner already have this existing Backupify

client signed up with Backupify for Google Apps.

○ 4. Click on Office 365, and select the required number of Backupify for Office 365 seats. Click GENERATE

QUOTE to view the automatically quoted price.

○ 5. In the CONFIRM QUOTE window, confirm the quote by clicking CONFIRM QUOTE.

○ 6. SInce you as a Datto Partner already have Backupify accounts for this client, there is existing payment

info available to choose from. (In this case it was used for Backupify for Google Apps). Select CONFIRM PURCHASE in the PAYMENT METHOD window.

7. Upon completion, you are returned to SELECT CLIENT window.

1. In the SELECT CLIENT window, click NEW CLIENT.

○ 2. In the ADD CLIENT window, enter the Backupify client (or customer) name. Next, read the Backupify

Reseller Agreement. Click the box if you agree with that, and then click CONTINUE.

○ The client name you provide is only for your reference within the Datto Partner SaaS Store and within the Datto SaaS Backup AMD . Backupify identifies customers via domain name.

○ 3. In the SELECT PRODUCT window, select Office 365.

○ 4. Click on Office 365, and select the required number of Backupify for Office 365 seats. Click GENERATE

QUOTE to view the automatically quoted price.

○ 5. In the CONFIRM QUOTE window, confirm the quote by clicking CONFIRM QUOTE.

○ 6. In the PAYMENT METHOD window, enter the payment method, and then select SUBMIT at the bottom.

○ 7. Select CONFIRM PURCHASE in the PAYMENT METHOD window. 8. After payment receipt acknowledgment, select RETURN TO STORE in the PAYMENT RECEIVED window. 9. Upon completion, you are returned to SELECT CLIENT window.

7. Enter the Datto SaaS Backup Application Management Dashboard (the Datto SaaS Backup AMD). ○ From the Datto Partner Portal, select “Devices -> Manage SaaS Apps”, which leads to the Datto SaaS Backup AMD.

(Or, from the PAYMENT RECEIVED window above, click MANAGE CLIENTS / APPLICATIONS).

○ When setting up services for a new customer in the Datto SaaS Backup AMD , you have the option to set up each customer as Partner-Managed or Client-Managed.

8. Explore the Datto SaaS Backup AMD.

○ The Datto SaaS Backup AMD, as shown below, allows a US-based Datto Partner to view all of their Backupify clients in one place. In this example, this Datto Partner (MSP) has provided Backupify protection to several clients. The Backupify client names were specified by the Datto Partner during sign up in the Datto Partner SaaS Store. Each of the Backupify-protected SaaS apps are represented by a separate tile. Tiles are grouped by Backupify client.

i. ○ The Datto SaaS Backup AMD alleviates the need for the Datto Partner to create and manage Backupify admin

accounts for each of their Backupify clients. Click on tile icons for apps with active Backupify protection to enter the Backupify web application. See (CONNECTING TO BACKUPIFY FOR PARTNER-MANAGED BACKUPIFY ADMINISTRATION).

i. If an app has been activated as client-managed, then clicking on the icon of a tile for an app results in a red box to appear in the upper right.

● ○ For each tile that represents a new (and not yet authorized for Backupify data protection) SaaS App, there is an

option allowing the selection of Partner-Managed or Client-Managed. The selection must be one or the other but not both. To review the differences between the these options, see https://kb.datto.com/hc/en-us/articles/215585243 REF5.

i. ○ Tiles with only one authorization choice are for Backupify clients with existing Backupify data protection services.

That situation identifies this Backupify client already has been identified as client-managed or partner-managed for other apps being protected by Backupify. When the only option is “client managed” this identifies that apps for that Backupify client are already authorized as Client-Managed.

○ Each tile in the Datto SaaS Backup AMD provides insight into the usage of the Backupify seats, and the most recent backup status. A sample tile is shown below, with a description of each of the measured values. See https://kb.datto.com/hc/en-us/articles/210762646 REF6.

ii. Backup Status - allows admins to quickly scan their clients' services and identify any backup issues iii. Backup Seats

● Total Licenses - Amount of licenses provisioned for the client. This number reflects the upper bound of the current seating tier.

● Managed - reflects the number of licenses currently in use for this service. ● Open Licenses - The number of remaining end users that can be accommodated for this service. ● Unprotected - indicates the number of end users for that service that are currently unprotected. This

number could reflect an intentional choice on behalf of the domain admin to leave some end users unprotected via Seat Management, or it could alert you that there are users who are currently unprotected and the license tier needs to be increased to accommodate.

○ Accessing Your Backupify clients through the Dashboard. See https://kb.datto.com/hc/en-us/articles/210762646 REF6. i. For partner-managed Backupify clients: After authorizing Terms and Conditions and Service-Side Scopes for

your clients, you can click a service tile in the Datto SaaS Backup AMD and be taken to the Backupify Product Dashboard for that client, where you can manage backups, restores and exports at a more granular level.

ii. If you are a Backupify reseller without authorization to act on behalf of your clients, you will not be able to click through the Datto SaaS Backup AMD to the Product Dashboards. Purchase, Authorization, and Base Setup for Client-Managed Office 365 Accounts in Canada and APAC

As a Canada- or APAC-based Datto partner, you are responsible for initiating the purchase of Backupify for Office 365 for your local business clients, handling the quote, and accepting the added costs to your monthly expenses from Datto. There is no Datto SaaS Backup AMD for this region; thus to provide Client-managed Backupify services in this region, you will also be responsible for additional steps in the authorization for your Backupify client, but the client is responsible for the user configuration. Your steps in this process are outlined in this section.

1. Practice “clean browsing”. ○ Open a new Google Chrome (or other supported browser) private window before proceeding.

2. Log into the Datto Partner Portal. ○ Go to https://auth.datto.com/login or https://partners.dattobackup.com.

i. https://partners.dattobackup.com will automatically (and temporarily) redirect to https://auth.datto.com/login .

○ Enter your Datto Partner Portal credentials, then click Log In.

i. ○ This brings you back to the Datto Partner Portal.

○ Click Backupify (it will appear as the screen shown below). For Canada and APAC, this will direct you to the Backupify sign-up Portal (titled “Step 1: Create a Backupify Account”).

5. Optional: Review the Backupify Price Sheets. ○ View the price sheets for Backupify in the Datto Partner portal under Resources -> Product & Pricing Info. They are

available in US dollars as well as international currencies. 6. Create the Backupify account for the new Backupify client.

○ Since the Backupify account will be client-managed and not in the US, it is necessary for the Datto Partner to create the Backupify account in this situation. After creating the account, the Datto Partner will need to provide these credentials to the Backupify client, so that they may complete the authorization.

○ At this time, Backupify is still uninformed of the name of the Office 365 domain to protect. ○ First, enter your customer’s name, and the administrative email for the backupify account. As a Datto Partner, the

Backupify admin email is your email, and is not to be confused with the new Backupify client’s Office 365 admin account. This password is for the (new) Backupify account - it is not the password for the administrator’s email on Microsoft Office 365. When completed, click Continue to Step 2.

i. You are creating a new Backupify admin account that is specific for your particular new Backupify client, not for that Datto Partner. For Canada and APAC Partner-managed administration, the Datto Partner will be performing this administration through the Backupify management portal using this account.

ii. Changing (updating) this email username of the Backupify admin is a manual process that needs to be done by a Support representative. For more, see https://kb.datto.com/hc/en-us/articles/211726123 REF13 .

iii.

○ Next, select ADD OFFICE 365 PRODUCT to complete the customer sign up. This opens a Microsoft O365 connection, as shown below, with a window that says “Backupify” in the upper right.

i. For non-US customers, only Backupify for Microsoft Office 365 is supported through this signup at this time. For Backupify support for other SaaS platforms such as Google Apps (G Suite), contact your Datto Partner Representative.

○ The Datto Partner SaaS Store is only available for US Datto Partners.

○ Select the Backupify icon. ○ Next, select Sign Up for Office 365 Backupify.

6. The next page will display both the NFR and New Customer service options.

○ Since the Backupify account will be client-managed and not in the US, it is necessary for the Datto Partner to create the Backupify account in this situation. After creating the account, the Datto Partner will need to provide these credentials to the Backupify client, so that they may complete the authorization.

○ Select Purchase New Backupify O365 Account. For EMEA, this will direct you to the Backupify Sign-up Portal.

○ The Backupify charges are added to the Partner’s monthly service invoice. They will get the current month free of charge and start to pay from the 1st of the following month.

CONNECTING TO BACKUPIFY FOR CLIENT-MANAGED BACKUPIFY ADMINISTRATION Backupify access is web-based. Once you have created your Backupify account, authorizes the Office 365 domain to allow protection services from Backupify (see PURCHASE, AUTHORIZATION, AND BASE SETUP OF BACKUPIFY FOR OFFICE 365 PROTECTION FOR YOUR BACKUPIFY CLIENT), log in by visiting https://sso.backupify.com/login and entering the Backupify admin account credentials.

US Canada, APAC, and EMEA

1. Go the Datto SaaS Backup AMD 2. Click on any Office 365 app icon for the Backupify client 3. The Backupify for Office 365 Dashboard will open for that

Backupify client.

BACKUPIFY FOR OFFICE 365 USER MANAGEMENT Backupify for Office 365 can be utilized to protect all users in a Microsoft Office 365 domain, or on a per-seat basis. Users may be managed automatically with optional governance rules, or manually. This section reviews this user management. USER MANAGEMENT IS NOT AVAILABLE TO PARTNERS FOR CLIENT-MANAGED BACKUPIFY ACCOUNTS.

RESTORING ITEMS When restoring items, you can select a specific item or multiple items items and restore them by clicking the Restore button. You can also restore all items for the user by leaving all items unchecked and clicking the Restore button. Restoring all is useful in the event that a user deleted the full contents of their mailbox, their calendar, or other system. EXPORTING ITEMS Exporting allows a Backupify administrator to store a secure package of an individual’s data outside of Office 365. For example, if an executive is leaving the company and the company wants to keep track of all the executive’s records, Backupify for Office 365 can export that executive’s correspondence, contact list, Calendar, and OneDrive files.
