Customer challenges How Data Protector solves the problem
Lost & stolen tapes
HP Data Protector encrypts the backup data on the client level so that nobody can read the data on the backup tape or during network transmission without owning the matching key.
Backup consolidation of virtual machines
Data Protector consolidates the backup of multiple virtual VMware machine into the single backup of the entire virtual server
No backup window of SharePoint Portal Servers
HP Data Protector backups SharePoint portal servers while being online.

Lösungen mit Virtual Tape
Step 1
Back up “fast” data to physical tape (image)
Step 2Back up “slower” data to multiple
virtual tape drives (object: file/print data, transaction logs,
web pages)
Step 3When convenient, copy virtual
tape media to physical tape media using the backup server
and Data Protector

HP 6000 Virtual Library System
• Seamless integration into the existing environment
• Emulates tape so the backup process is unchanged
• Dramatically improves restore and backup times
• Backup to disk, then to tape
• Perform multiple jobs in parallel
• Provision virtual tape drives and virtual libraries in under 5 minutes
• Flexible provisioning of resources (libraries/drives/media) to meet specific requirements
• Easy to manage using Command View VLS GUI
• Systems Insight Manager Integration

HP Data Protector
• Backup is done without impact to application
• Zero Downtime Backup automates replication (snapshot and clone) process
• Application integration automatically rolls forward
re-do logs
• Instant Recovery fully automates the creation and
rotation of replicas
• Complete control of the mirror specification via GUI
• Disk operations permit non-disruptive protection as frequently as needed
• Administrators can choose disk protection, tape
protection, or scheduled combinations
HP Application Recovery Manager
• For tight application integration into HP disk array environments that do not use HP Data Protector but want instant recovery
Additional snapshot/clone capacity needs to be provisioned in EVA

HP EVA Disk Array
• Business Copy enables fast image recovery point in the array
• Automated failback ensures all data is re-synchronized upon reinstatement
• Flexible replication options
• SMI-S and EVA legacy API to also allow heterogeneous applications to produce different types of replicas
• Option for FC or lower cost FATA drives to be used within same enclosure
Use FATA drives to provide high
capacity/low cost disk storage for snapshots/clones

Continuous Data Protection SolutionStep 1CIC software is continuously capturing changes to protected
storage and writing metadata to recovery storage and server.
Step 2In event of data corruption on protected storage, the recovery
server can present any specific point in time to alternate or
protected servers
Step 3Application now runs from selected point-in-time on the
alternate/protected server using recovery storage
Some form of backup to tape still recommended

HP EVA Disk Array
• Continuous Access provides increased level of protection – providing disaster tolerance at optimal cost to site A
• Enhanced Async provides higher performance on primary EVA
• Replicate from multiple sites for backup consolidation
• Perform upgrades and maintenance from central/recovery site
• Business Copy flexible licensing model adapts to needs

HP Data Protector
• Manages multiple data protection techniques simultaneously and automatically - All options can be configure using simple selections
• ZDB guarantees consistent backup of application data: Exchange/SQL/Oracle and SAP
• At Site B HP Data Protector fully integrates the Continuous Access and Business Copy creation into a single process (DP 6.0 enhancement)
• The Data Protector GUI permits complete control of the mirror specification.
• Administrators can choose the schedule of the backup to tape; to meet their protection requirementsOff-site Vaulting

HP EVA MetroCluster/Cluster Extension
• Fully automates the necessary storage interaction like fail-over, failsafe override and status checking
• Support for HP-UX, Windows, and Linux clusters
• Automatic replication reversal after fail-over
• NO server re-boot during fail-over
• SAN is set-up to limit host access to the local EVA on each site – removes unnecessary I/Os and therefore extends cluster to metropolitan distances
