After enjoying the summer holidays at home with delicious food, sleepy afternoons, mobile phones and most importantly their parents, the Mody girls are back to School, ready to take on the challenges that they are faced with one after the other. The end of the summer vacations has also marked the beginning of life in Mody for our new boarders. A three day conference from 22-24 April was attended by 11 girls of our School with teacher escort, Ms. Priyanshi Chauhan to attend the Daly College MUN Conference 2017. There were a total of 9 committees with 250 delegates from 19 schools. Our theme was "Noise of the Neglected". Each committee had dynamic agenda for arguments like "Promotion of genomics for global health" , "Rehabilitation and treatment on present reforms" , "indigenous people " , " Rising tensions in the Middle East" etc. It was a three day brainstorming session which proved to be a great experience for all of us. We got to learn many things and also tried our best to overcome our fears and got to know about our hidden capabilities. Since it was a debut MUN for all of us, none of us had any idea of how we would do it. Under the guidance of our MUN coordinators, it turned out to be an enriching experience. Starting from our journey, everyone was all set with their formals and the research folders. We were all ready to represent our country and animatedly discuss the thought-provoking agenda. The first session after the opening ceremony was an introductory session. The second day was the most interesting part of the three day conference where we all had to argue for 11 hours and get our working papers done. The third day was when finally we had to reach to a conclusion and passed the draft resolution. Out of 9 committees there were some who failed in passing their draft resolution. Our delegation included Laxmi , Muskan Jajodia, Priyal Mewara, Sanjana, Kashvi Modi, Prerna Poddar, Dilshad Ghazala, Devanshi Yadav, Devishi and Shivangi. We took away a lot from this outing and we all look forward to more such MUNs which are certain to broaden our mind and sharpen our debating skills. -Nandini Begwani XII H2 SERVICE UNDER THE SUN The Ladakh Round Square Service Project, initiated by Lamdon School, was my first Round Square. SERVICE UNDER THE SUN

The Ladakh Round Square Service Project, initiated by Lamdon School, was my first Round Square. This was

a 15 day fun and learning experience. I acquired some amazing experiences like carrying the bricks and

sacks of mud and stones all day long with just 10 minute breaks in between. The first day was tiring since

we had never worked with that intensity before. I understood the dignity of labour and was happy about

making a contribution to this school. It felt nice

to see happiness illuminating the faces of little

children who dreamed to study at the school we

were building. We had a lot of fun working

together. We made friends with a lot of kids

during the RSC and discovered that we shared

the same hobbies and acade mic interests. This

project also helped me overcome my introvert

nature. We faced a lot of challenges in the

absence of proper washrooms. We are so used

to sanitized and clean washrooms which are so

unlike the washrooms we were provided with. I

learnt how to adjust. One of my biggest

achievements! We visited Pangong Lake which

looked very beautiful as the sun shone on the

water making it shimmer under a yellow sky. The water of the lake was cold and clean.

After a long day of rest, we went back to doing the same job, building the rooms for children. The most

momentous event of the entire 15 days was meeting the Dalai Lama in person. I enjoyed this experience

and learnt a lot from it and I thank our Principal for giving us an opportunity like this. -Kalyani Arya, IB

SURPRISING SCIENCE-BASED HACKS TO INSTANTLY CHEER YOURSELF UP

1. Singing in the rain? Yeah, not so much!

It’s not really that hard to believe, you wake up in the morning, open the blinders and the beautiful sun is

shining down on you. The trees look greener and the sky looks bluer. You tend to think that nothing will go

wrong and hence, your mood is manipulated.

2. Music to my mind!

When you’re in a foul mood, just listen to upbeat and happy music, and it will make you feel better!

3. Go green, literally

Looking at nature or even pictures of nature can have a calming effect on your mind. While the effects of

the colours red and blue are fairly well documented, here is a lesser known fact about the colour green – it

boosts creativity!

.So why don’t you try to test these three theories and let us know if they are really true? If you know any

cool life hacks, do keep us in the know!

LEARNING AT GENESIS RSC I along with a group of five students; Nirali Purohit, Aayushi Bhadadia, Radhika Agarwal, Aadya Jaiswal and Kirti Tomar, attended the Round Square Conference hosted by the Genesis Global School, Noida on the theme 'Together towards tomorrow.' The students were divided into five barazzas which we got to know during the introduction ceremony. They were named after some famous streets like The Times Square, Chandni Chowk, Champs Elysees, Baker Street, and Abbey road and our classrooms were decorated accordingly. From shy smiles to wandering minds, the scenario, just in two days, changed to laughter and camaraderie .We spoke our minds confidently without any inhibitions. The students proceeded to an NGO for a social service project, wherein they painted an entire wall and learnt the importance of teamwork and coordination along with having a

lot of fun. Painting walls was something really new for us, and we realized that if there wasn’t anything challenging in life, it wasn’t worth it. The Treasure hunt was another highly interesting activity. It was mind boggling and also taught us time management and teamwork. Different barazza groups put up different performances on the cultural night. The school had planned an outing for us to the Mall Of India, DLF, which is arguably India’s biggest mall. Everyone shopped and munched on some really delicious food. Also, we had a DJ at night. Barazzas were the most enjoyable part of the outing as they made us get together in our own little groups and discuss important issues, play games and well, get to know each other better. For this, we would like to thank Principal, Ms Meeta Sharma, for letting us savour the opportunity of such an amazing experience. -Ms Priyanshi Chauhan

MUNing AT LA MARTINIERE! The La Martiniere, Calcutta MUN 2017 took place from 13th to 15th of May. Twelve of us from classes 9th to 12th participated in the MUN with great preparation, high hopes and expectations. We reached Kolkata on 12th May on our own as summer vacations had already started. While everyone else was enjoying their vacations, we were busy MUNing! But as it is said, gold shines more when kept for longer in the flame. With this idea, we were ready to debate our hearts out. Our delegation team was escorted by Ms Jyoti Ratan Singh. We had the opening ceremony and then the sessions started. We had butterflies in our stomachs. All the delegates were nervous and feared the competition because of the hallowed name of the institute, but the conference didn't live to our expectations. The management, procedures and the house lacked efficiency. In fact there were just two successful committees who could pass their resolutions. Anyways, we still had lots of fun and made memories with novel friends. So, ‘All's well that ends well’. -Harleen Kaur

PREPARING FOR A MUSICVAGANZA! Harleen Kaur and Khushi Jindal interviewed Simran Kumar (Asst. Cultural secretary) and Devanshi Yadav, who are instrumentalists participating in the Western Music Workshop. The Workshop began this month and will conclude with a splendid band performance after a month of training. This is the very first time that the school will have its own band and this workshop is one of its kind.

CM: How is the Workshop progressing? What are your views regarding this new development in the school? Simran: It’s good. We are getting to learn lots and lots of things. It’s a bit slow paced right now owing to the sudden change from Indian to Western music, but I am sure it will pick up speed soon. CM: What are your expectations from this workshop? Simran: I expect that on the day we have our performance; more and more students will realize the importance of learning music. I feel that the number of interested students would be really high next year and that budding singers and musicians come out of the crowd and realize the potential that might be hiding somewhere deep inside their hearts. CM: What do you play? Were there any difficulties you faced in particular? Simran: I play the guitar and it’s very interesting to learn. The teacher, Mr. Daniel Messi is really patient and understanding. I am currently learning different notes. It was a bit difficult as you know, Indian to western transformation takes concentration and attention. CM: How is the choir performing? Simran: The vocalists are doing their best. We have really melodious voices but their number is less. It’s because many students don’t understand their own talent and miss giving singing a chance. CM: So Devanshi, what do you learn? Devanshi: I learn the Piano and it’s really tough combating the difference between Indian and western music styles. In Indian Style, there are no chords but the western music is solely based on a combination and variety of chords and notes. It’s hard playing with both hands but now I and my fellow musicians are confident enough to be able to play. CM: What are your calculations for the band’s performance?

Devanshi: An amazing performance. I hope we are going to set the stage on fire with all of the hard work we are putting into this workshop. It will take time to completely learn and understand but then, the best will only come out when we will put our heart and soul into this. Teachers are really cooperative and provide us with the kind of environment we need for learning something other than Indian classical music. CM: What do you think of the new teacher, Mr. Daniel Massey?

Devanshi: He is superbly talented. Being smart enough to handle children from diverse age groups, Mr.Daniel is humble, polite and he teaches patiently.

NEW BEGINNINGS Life is all about new beginnings. A beginning can be challenging at times, but if we remain stuck on just one

chapter of our life we will not be able to start a new chapter. I am a new boarder and this is my first

boarding experience. Before coming here, I was a little excited and afraid as well. I had many questions

that plagued my mind. I wondered what a boarding school would be like. How would I manage everything,

whether I would be able to live there and what not? Fortunately, I was confident enough to find all the

answers to my questions and overcoming the conflicts in my mind. I fought my little battle bravely

and now, I am happy to say that I love the people, the campus, the mess and everything about the

school. It might take some time for everyone to adapt themselves to the new surroundings. After coming

to a boarding school I am ready to face and overcome all the challenges that I face. After all there is a

rainbow only after the rain so dance in the rain and smile at the rainbow. - Harsha Agarwal IX-C

It wasn’t a miracle but it was an opportunity for us to go back to my previous school for my basketball

tournament. I was very excited but on the other hand, I was nervous to return to my previous school “The

Aryan School”. We boarded our bus on 3rd April to depart at [the clean and neat Dehradun]. The next day

we began with the matches along with the opening ceremony we began a neck to neck fight with almost all

the teams and finally we reached semi- finals. Though we couldn’t reach finals but we learnt many new

moves that might be helpful in the future. We also gained sports men ship and it was one of the most

memorable tournaments for me. -
