Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace Engineering)(Honours) In this industry-focused program you’ll gain specialist skills in the analysis, design, and operation of sophisticated aerospace hardware and software. You’ll study a broad range of areas such as aerodynamics, aerospace materials and structures, aerospace systems, design, dynamics and control, thermodynamics, and propulsion. Elective studies will allow you to tailor the program to suit your areas of interest and enhance your career opportunities. Sustainability issues are built in to multiple areas of the program. This increases your employability as there is increasing demand for long-term sustainable engineering solutions in this industry. When you graduate you’ll have the analytical, technological, and design skills required to practise aerospace engineering. You’ll also learn to appreciate the wider social implications of the engineering profession. You’ll have the opportunity to design creative solutions through inspiring and sustainable design and build projects, as well as taking part in the Engineers Without Borders Challenge – a humanitarian- focused course offered in all RMIT engineering degrees. To ensure you graduate job ready, you’ll also have an opportunity to undertake a work-integrated learning (industry experience) elective. Industry connections As a Cornerstone RMIT pathway student, you’ll have oppurtunities to engage with industry from the beginning of our degree. Through work placements, industry projects, internships, seminars and events, you’ll be in contact with industry every step of the way. You’ll have the chance to do 12 weeks’ work experience, research projects in collaboration with industry and the opportunity to work overseas with leading engineering organisations. The School of Engineering has strong Australian and international links with the aerospace industry, built up over many years. Key stakeholders in the aerospace industry have participated in the development of the program, and have a continuing role in ensuring that it remains relevant and that graduates have strong career paths. Professional recognition This program is fully accredited by Engineers Australia. Graduates of the program are eligible for graduate membership of Engineers Australia. Full membership as a professional engineer may be obtained after an appropriate period of professional practice. Career outlook In an aerospace engineering career you can design aircrafts, develop propulsion systems, research new materials, test new engines, develop spacecraft, or plan maintenance programs. As a graduate from this program you’ll be ready to work as a high-level engineer on a wide range of Australian and international projects. Program structure Years 1 and 2

You’ll gain a solid understanding of engineering, including studies in engineering, maths and mechanics of materials.

Year 3

You’ll deepen you knowledge in aerospace engineering, while getting the opportunity undertake elective studies so you can tailor the program to suit your areas of interest and enhance your career opportunities.

Year 4

You’ll put theory into practice through a major professional research project, in which you will plan your research project, conduct a critical review of relevant published material, complete your research project, evaluate information, and report your findings. This is a work-integrated project done either in conjunction with industry or in a simulated engineering work environment.

Your final year (capstone) project will develop and reinforce the skills and knowledge you need - as defined by Engineers Australia - to commence your professional engineering career.

You’ll also continue to select aerospace engineering electives.

A work-integrated learning (industry experience) elective will also be completed in Year 2, 3 or 4.
